Impressed by the videos. Diggs speed turn is quick for CB his size...Diggs in the 2nd round was the most exciting pick for me. Dude is long, can run, gets out of breaks and plays the ball like a WR...

Speaking of WR get young Diggs some reps at WR, too.

Starting CBs play over 1000 snaps per season.

5 INTs in a season is considered very good.

QBs throw the most picks in the 2nd half when their team is losing. That means most picks happen when the team that made the pick was winning anyway.

If a CB has 5 picks that at most 5 games that were impacted. The team was likely winning most of those games without the INT.

INTs are a bit over-rated.

Only overrated if we're talking about Jourdan Lewis like. ,,,imo.

- Green Bay won the Superbowl with a defense that was towards the bottom in yards allowed, but ranked No.1 in turnovers created

- Saints also had a defense that was at the bottom half in yards allowed - but among the very top in Turnovers created- Result They won the Super Bowl because they created turnovers.

INTs are a definite major part of Turnovers

The addition of Diggs has Super Bowl written all over it.

Turnovers are one of the leading stats that determines wins and losses.

Do you even know the average points per loss for the Cowboys last year? One pick likely would have made the difference in all or most of them.

Nobody ever started discounting interceptions until JB played for Dallas.

And what about picks for QB's? Are those overrated too? Fumbles? Sacks?

But hey, you are entitled to your opinion.

You're not comparing apples to apples.

If coverage ability if otherwise equal, obviously the player with significantly more INTs would be more valued.

The issue is (again) that starting CBs play over 1000 snaps in a season.

A CB could just always go for the INT without regard to getting beat and would get more INTs; however, if that player gets beat 995 times and gets 5 INTs, he is not going to have a job in the NFL.

The Cowboys CB's are going to surprise this year. The change in coaching alone will make an impact and an improved pass rush won't hurt either.
With the addition of Diggs, Robinson,, some UDFA is going to find a way,, take a look at some of them.
This secondary might be the most significantly improved areas once all is said and done.

Maybe if you say it again that will help? Nothing you said has convinced me that picks or ball skills aren't important.

Probably starts. Reportedly they graded him as a first rounder. You start first rounders, and we've shown little faith in the guys we have in their contract years.

Diggs is the future. The future starts now.

I agree....... he will get every chance to win Jones's job.

Almost no one threw at Deion Sanders yet he never had a season with less than 2 INTs, including his last year in Baltimore.

You can’t always judge a DE by number of sacks but I absolutely do judge cornerbacks turnovers.
Deion had such unique recovery speed that he could bait QBs into throwing his direction.

Deion had unique everything.

Probably the best body control while running full speed of any player in any sport.

One skill of CBs that is rarely discussed is the ability to stop. Some CBs take a full extra step as compared to some others when they have to stop and come back. That means 2 extra steps to come back to the spot where other CBs just stopped.

Deion's stop-start ability was more impressive than just his pure speed (Watch Alexander Wright run fast in a straight line. It's not remotely as impressive).

He was a great cover guy. But he was about as bad a corner as there ever was at picking the ball off.

He also showed little leadership on defense. Was not an outspoken or emotional leader. Not a big hitter by any stretch.

And no, I am not in agreement that great CB's rarely pick the ball off.

1 pick in 5 years is beyond ridiculous.

In my book he was more on the side of overrated. I think we can say that the Cowboys agreed with that assesment.

I don't agree. Our problem stemmed from coaching and from philosophy. If you don't practice creating turnovers and playing conservative all the time, then your defense won't get INTs or turnovers.

We have always been a "bend but don't break" defense. From Rob Ryan until Marinelli, we have stuck with that philosophy for so long that all our corners and safeties have forgotten how to play the ball.

Given that we will probably install a new defense focused on creating turnovers and INTs, we will probably get more turnovers and INTs.

Please. He didnt get interceptions because he had no playmaking ability. If he was really that guy, he’s be here. Diggs is going to make us quickly forget about Byron Jones, not that he did anything worth remembering. His standout play was pinning a punt at the 1 yard line.

And both his career picks were probably deflections.

Indeed, I just remember watching Deion return a punt or a pick, just seemed as though everyone else was in slow motion, he seemed to glide through crowds.
