Ya think there will be alot of pressure on Dak this year, be nice to see him win some big games and show alot of us we were wrong about him.

I thought you could only tag two consecutive years
You can do a 3rd tag, but not consecutively...would have to wait at least one year.

There is no NFL rule that limits the number of years in a row a player can be tagged. "Consecutive franchise tags are allowed; however, for a player to be tagged two straight years, the team must pay 120 percent of the player's previous salary. If it is three-straight years, the team must pay the player 144 percent of his previous salary, or an average of the top 5 salaries at the highest-paid position (likely QB)—whichever is higher"

We've been saying that awhile now.......trust me, I was 100% confident he would have one by now but here we are.

The Cowboys have a long history of signing big free agents just hours before a deadline. Until July 15 goes by then people can start the speculation of what's next.

Yeah. Thanks.
Someone already informed me .
The 144% of 37mil basically means the same thing. After two years, the player either gets signed or becomes a FA, as not team has ever gone 3 straight.

What a tool. You want more than your team can afford to pay you, and then get POed when they don't pay you.
Imagine believing that the team couldn’t afford to pay him, when they offered him less than the tag paid, and then turned right around and made an awful trade for Alex Smith, who they then paid way more than they ever offered Cousins.

Yeah. I looked up different source.

Same difference. Nobody is tagging Dak a 3rd year.

Has any player ever been tagged 3 straight?

Didn’t the Seahawks tag Walter Jones three times?

I applaud Dak for betting on himself but the only thing in life that is a sure thing is death and taxes. If he gets injured or sucks it up than he is screwed. If he was offered more guarantee money than Goff or Wentz than he should have taken it, imo. Just want this thing to get done.
It's a good bet. Only one QB in decades has suffered a career ending injury, Alex Smith.

Don't yip at me because you said something that's not true. Just because a team never tagged a player a 3rd time doesn't mean they can't if they choose to. You're the one that said it can only be done twice in a row which is wrong.

I'm not a Dak fan. But I don't think Dak is playing on any tag, let alone two tags.

Let's hope common sense makes a come back.....though I will still think financially we'll be restricted if its not for five years.

I still cant see us affording the 2021 Tag??

Sorry, I was in kind a bad mood when I wrote that. Neighbors dog keeps peeing on my car. I know that sounds funny but it happens all too often.

It could very well force Jerry's hand ........either sign him long term or trade him coz a 3rd tag is next to impossible at $50M plus ( like Cousin, every team in the league know we're not going to pay that). Meaning we lose any/all trade value AFTER the second tag. This is what Breer is saying and he's right. Not getting this done before the start of next season would leave only two options......

I can say I never thought the ideal Dak not signing a long-term with Cowboys was possible but honestly, I'm not sure now.

**** 2nd tag but no trade value for a 3rd tag
**** Long-term deal or trade him before 2021 season

Breer: "They get there, and the team is in a MUCH worst spot"

You are already on the 3rd tag. LOL

I believe the front office will eventually cave into his agent's demands of a shorter contract. With the uncertainty of the cap next season, rumors it may go down, it makes it more urgent on both sides to get the deal done. I agree, Dak will not be franchised 3 straight seasons, he will likely being playing elsewhere in that scenario, but it still seems high unlikely a deal cannot get done.

Could you explain what to "cave into his agent's demands of a shorter contract" will actually look like financially?

How does caving into his agents demands assist the Cowboys in the next 3 years?

You don't have to look as far as the 3rd years tag, look at next years (2021's) scenario???

Meh. Let him walk after this season. The years between Aikman and Romo were the most fun. We had some great draft slots. After all, the draft is the best part of the season. It goes downhill from there.

It has been reported numerous times that the contract holdup is more about length then it is about money. Dak and his agent want to be able to hit free agency sooner then the Cowboys would like. A longer contract would allow the Cowboys to move around money to keep cap flexibility, a shorter one makes it more challenging. On top of this, they would have to give him a huge raise a year earlier as the QB market is going to rise significantly by the time that contract expires.
