Good. I've been wanting to see him get a legit shot and not immediately get typecast by his height like the previous coach did.

they hired Nolan to be DC.

he hasn’t coached as DC since the nightmare in Atlanta.

he was hired as DC because he gave MIke the OC job at 49ers.

they are big buddies.
Mike didn’t take this HC job after a year of watching on tv to hand out favors.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ffensive coordinator,of the Green Bay Packers.

"McCarthy served as offensive coordinator under Nolan in 2005 when the latter was head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. After one season, McCarthy was hired to become head coach of the Green Bay Packers. The 2005 season served as the only year the two coached on the same staff but they have maintained a relationship ever since."

That's why Mike wanted Nolan as DC. Nolan helped big Mike get the HC job at the Packers the next season.

Look at all the corners they brought in this season after Nolan was hired........6ft 1in 200lbs. Regardless of what he did in Atlanta they have brought in 5 corners this offseason and all are 6ft 1
if this is true, then the clean slate means they will all compete for the starting gigs.
None of them are designated starters, could be the tall guys or a mix of short and tall, I guess TC and PS games
will be how the decision is made.

I dont think it is as simple as returning a favor, MM would be stupid to hire a bad DC just to return a favor.
I think they just want to work together again, and nolan will run the type defense MM wants to have.

Sometimes people work better and do better if they are working with certain people they like.

so big Mike hires a washed up DC who hasn’t been a DC since 2014, because ....?

That train wreck at Atlanta destroyed Nolan’s reputation.

plus, Jerry hires Edwards, who is a legit DC.

It’s not about results. Mike and Nolan are big buddies.

Brown is only 1 inch taller and 4 pounds heavier than Lewis.

Coaches don't keep a better player on the bench for a difference of 1 inch in height.

Brown has been a better player than Lewis. He is also much faster. Those are the reasons that Brown was the Nickel CB over Lewis.

The Cowboys said farewell to last season's top cornerback Byron Jones when he signed with the Dolphins as a free agent this offseason and they said hello to a new coaching staff put in place by head coach Mike McCarthy. Mike Nolan will be running the defense for McCarthy and Jourdan Lewis recounted his message [more]

Has there EVER been a new coaching staff in any sport that didn't say that the players all get a clean slate?

Clean slate, fresh start, a new lease on life. When a staff coaches you to play the hands of the receiver and not the ball you're working from a disadvantage, especially with the NFL's new glue glove. Your best chance is to keep the ball from hitting his hands and you can't do that without turning your head and playing the ball.

It's a new day, for everyone :flagwave:
Sums it up,,, if your not hitting the QB in todays game, your not winning anything.
This teams pass rush is more of a priority than any other area on defense, at the moment.

When Lewis got more PT last year his grades weren’t good on majority of plays. He’s around the ball when it bounces up in the air but he wasn’t good at staying with his man most of the time.
I like his game though, and Im just betting on a flip of a coin that Lewis could be so much more with proper starting reps.
Some players, most players need to be fully vested in reps to elevate their game.
Lewis has more ability than his height neglects in judgment.
Just let the player have a chance, and don't judge the man off of how tall he is.
Let Lewis compete in camp, and if he is the best corner, and he wins, than he should be the starter.

Brown is only 1 inch taller with similar weight and similar arm length.. Brown didn't get the Nickel CB job just because of 1" in height.

Their forty time are not similar:
Brown 4.33
Lewis 4.53

The top focus of the Patriots defense in the 2018 season Super Bowl was stopping the Rams running game.
- They often played base (3 LBs) against 3 WR sets and other alignments that were strong vs the run but weaker vs the pass.

The top focus of the Chiefs in the 2019 season Super Bowl was stopping the 49ers running game.
- They often used their SS to cover the slot WR instead of going to Nickel.

Absolutely. However, the 9ers got there by hitting the other team's QB's!!! KC also, though not quite as much as 9ers.

Sure seems like this staff is looking for the same type of corners that Richard loves.
I think all coaches would prefer CBs with some size, but the key is to not let that to blind the coach on talent.

Maybe everyone seemed to miss the big plays Lewis whiffed on in limited time.

Brown is a very good slot CB. Has been since he entered the league.

Best news I've heard from our coaching staff in a long time.

"Bring you A-game and you'll play. Otherwise, there's the bench."

Cowboys got some really GOOD defensive backs in this years draft not only from picks but UDFA as well. They went young. Look out for them in the coming years. It will be hard to throw against them.
