How does a cancelled season affect Dak negotiations?

So, let's say Dak does not get extended by July 15th and will play the 2020 season on the franchise tag.

Scenario 1: Season is canceled a couple of weeks into training camp.
I would guess that would mean Dak (and all other players) would not get credit for this season and he would remain under the franchise tag for 2021 at a salary of $31 million.

Scenario 2: Season is canceled after 2 or 3 games into the season.
Dak could get credit for playing the season and become a free agent in 2021 or get franchise tagged for $37 million.

I'm assuming Dak (particularly his agent) is going to wait until July 15th to finalize a deal, if it all, because of the possibility that a season will be cancelled.

only delays it 12 months

If that was the case, I would imagine Dak and his agent would be more motivated to get paid today, rather than wait 12 months.

Or will players still get paid even if there is no season?

He would then draw a line in the sand for a three year deal.

Nothing will "affect" Dak. He'll get paid no matter what!

Well, he won't get paid in 2020 if the season is cancelled before week 1.

If that was the case, I would imagine Dak and his agent would be more motivated to get paid today, rather than wait 12 months.

IMO only players who are guaranteed to be paid are the ones that got signing bonuses.
Guys who only have base salary may be sweating it out the next few months.

Depends on whatever deal is worked out between the owners and NFLPA. I suspect that if thr season is cancelled early, they'll just scrub it for the year provided guarantees are given re the following years cap.

Don't assume they aren't extremely motivated to get a deal done. Maybe their strategy is to wait it out until the deadline and then take the best deal on the table.

He's going to make so much money, missing one season is a drop in the bucket for him. The Cowboys have maintained they want Dak on a long-term deal. It will be a huge contract, perhaps the largest in NFL history or very close.

As stated in my previous post. Nothing will "affect" Dak. He'll get paid no matter what!

I'm not sure I've anything from any reputable source on what happens if the season is cancelled before any games are played, in regards to contracts. Will they be tolled, or will they be credited for one year without pay? Does Fox/CBS/ESPN still owe the NFL any money for this year for cancelled games?

I agree in time he will. Just that if he was banking on 31.4mil(minimum) before taxes this year he better holdoff on any crazy purchases lol.

Think this may play a role in the next two weeks in getting something done but I guess we'll see.

I remember posting that Prescott would not be signed this year because of the uncertainty of the upcoming year.

Dallas will put this off one year till everything has sorted out.

Good questions. Who knows. But as far as the bold, (last I heard from a decent source) he may be investing in Zeke's dogs. :lmao:

The decision to cancel the season won't happen if it happens until well after the 15 Jully deadline. He will agree to a deal by the deadline date.

Prescott will agree, but will Dallas.

There was an article how teams are going to lose a lot of money with Dallas losing twice as much as the next team. This loss of revenue and maybe the season being lost will give Dallas hesitation on signing large long term deals.

Dallas will not enter into a deal with these external circumstances being present and unknown how they will play out.

What effect would that have when there's a salary cap pot of money you HAVE to spend? Even if a year is lost, every team is taking a hit. Dallas is probably the best team suited for taking a 1-year hit to boot. You still have to plan and have pieces in place to run your team going forward. Don't know where you stand on wanting Dak to be signed but this sounds like hope-posting, honestly.

I will just wait to see what happens. This should be the least of concerns. I just want to get to TC's to start 1st.

But to answer the OP question, it does not effect any negotiations. They will not make any announcements until late August.
A deal gets worked out in 15 days, or he plays on the tag.
