Sometimes I really hate this forum...and by sometimes I mean all off season and most of the season.

He’s a transcendent player at top form (which for him starts about game 5 or 6), and we don’t have an adequate replacement. I actually like the guy in a way, and feel like he’d be a cool friend. But part if what makes him seem like able is his extremely laid back, happy go lucky mentality, which just keeps getting him into trouble. It’s constant! He’s an elite athlete, no doubt, but he doesn’t have elite (perhaps not even average) focus, drive, or hunger for winning. He might not get suspended for this “faded” thing, but he is in the news for something mildly or severely negative all the time, the threat of suspension is constantly over him, he’s already been suspended—which hurt the team a lot— and I think he’s likely to be suspended again at some point for something. He’s also only getting older, and the only way to mitigate the pace of Father Time at his demanding position is to have elite conditioning and elite training... which by now he clearly is not interested in doing.

At RB, a cheaper player only one or two tiers below him could be found. McCarthy’s scheme will not truly need or utilize his strengths as a ground and pound player anyway. I think the trade return we get for him and the cap savings would add up to a net benefit over the talent drop off at RB, especially given the relatively low importance of this position in modern NFL. The biggest benefit to the team, however, would be in removing the chaos, disruptions, and reliance on an unreliable player who’s out of shape for a quarter of the season even when he’s not suspended or potentially suspended.
The Jones boneheads screwed up with that terrible contract. He should’ve been sat for the season or traded after the Cabo holdout. He can suck it.

He is completely untradeable right now due to guarenteed money left on the cap.

When you suggest trading a player, you should always look first at how much guarenteed money they have left

Ya Dak performed soooooo well when Zeke was out for 6 games.
In fact, he went 15 str8 Quarters of offense without 1 single TD.
You have the pulse of the team bud.....:banghead:

The Cowboys are going to probably make the same mistake a lot of teams make while the Patriots have Cam Newton at a 1.1 million dollar cap hit with incentives. Let that sink in. Now tell me which team was in 9 Super Bowls over the last two decades. The Cowboys have a team loaded with talent. Why are we paying your run of the mill good QB 30+ million? He's not Joe Montana, cut the cord already.

25 Years without 1 visit to a championship game.....let that number sink in.
We have the worst GM in the NFL hence paying Dak 30 million when we could go out and get Adams and Clowney and build our new Doomsday defense.
The funny part is the offense esp our passing game will be better with Dalton at 3 million!
Long live Jerry Jones !!!

This offseason has been like an Eveready battery.....it just keeps going and going and going and going and going......and going and going....and going and going.........

There is literally nothing left to discuss, nothing left on YouTube to watch, nothing left on the internet to read.....nothing.

I'm going to bed now. I've instructed my wife not to wake me up until the referee whistles the start of the next Dallas Cowboy game.......whenever the gods, old and new, decide that blessed event should take place.

There is something called a Salary Cap in the NFL.

Zeke just signed a new contract last season

If they trade him this off-season:
2020 Salary Cap Hit: 28.6 million.

Total paid to Zeke for 1 year of service (2019): 29.4 million.

.

I'm so glad to see that someone thought about this part, it's clear that the OP playing Madden football didn't.

SOrry...he's here for 2 years.

But should he be?

"Should" or shouldn't doesn't really matter, he just IS. He's not going anywhere for a while at least. It'll be interesting to see how he fits into McCarthy's game plans. I'm sure MM will use him better than Garrett did.

Nobody wants that contract.

I didn't like that contract either but he still isn't going anywhere for a while as long as he stays out of serious trouble.

So true. The Dallas FO got outmatched by their fear of losing their "ace in the hole," at least, to their assessments.

Their judgment has often been known to be questionable. They've left no doubt as to their feelings about Zeke. ;)

Did they overpay him? Yes, probably but now, they're stuck with it. They won't likely swap him at this point, though.

Really well written bro and this comes from a huge fan of his talent as well.

My gut/instinctual response is to say that the current starting QB absolutely needs a prime Zeke in order to look moderately professional.
I will leave it at that and say again that I agree with pretty much everything you've written but his value to assisting this particular QB can not be understated even taking into account that it will be an entirely different offensive scheme that doesn't utilize his strengths. He's still the most vital cog to this offense as long as this guy still starts at QB.
If there was a better thrower who didn't absolutely need a running game to succeed I'm all with ya.
If you say trade him for Trevor Lawrence...?

Now we're talking!! :)

Great post.

Why do I have to convince you that our running back has been the best back in the league since 2016?
Because he’s not? Wouldn’t the best RB at least be in the top 10 of most statistical categories, especially considering the O line he’s had?

He's top 3 in ALL OF that. Hell #1 in most. What else you need to see?
