The selection of Cee Dee at 17 might have seemed as over kill to some fans, considering the fact that we already had Cooper and Gallup, but it was really an easy pick by the Cowboys on draft day.

The general belief is that CD will immediately fill the void left at slot, with the departure of Cobb, but not so fast, lets take a look at Gallup and Cooper closely, at their skill set, and Im betting that CD gets more snaps at the X.

Despite recording over 1,100 yards in 14 games on a high-profile team, it feels like Michael Gallup’s second season is a bit underrated by the public.
Gallup was an underrated route runner and a beast at the catch point as a college prospect.
Those traits clearly carried over as Gallup posted a 71.2 percent success rate vs. man coverage (73rd percentile) and 81 percent contested catch rate.
Some of his best scores came on deep and intermediate routes.
While the Cowboys move Amari Cooper around to get advantageous matchups, Gallup drew the more difficult task as the X-receiver who faced a ton of tight press coverage.

Amari Cooper is often regarded as one of the best route runners in the NFL although
he has never scored higher than the 71st percentile in success rate vs. man coverage.
His marks in that metric have actually gone down through his career.
Additionally, he has finished below the 22nd percentile vs. press in two of his last three seasons which is why it is less advantageous to deploy him as an X-receiver.
Obviously, Cooper is still a great player, You see phenomenal peaks as a route runner but not at the steady level of the game's best.
So far, Dallas has deployed him well by using him as a flanker that moves around the formation pre-snap and that offsets concerns. Having players like Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb only makes that flexibility easier, and allows Cooper to dominate now in the slot role.

Cee Dee was a great pick because of how he impacts this offense immediately. Not only does he elevate Cooper and Gallups game, but now he allows Kellen Moore the ability to move his receiving options around pre snap, and actually be effective.

The problem is the Cowboys actually didnt move Cooper around. He played very few snaps out of the slot. Moving him aroumd is something they need to do to maximize his talent

He will open things up for Cooper, Gallup and Zeke big time.
Once Zeke signed on the dotted line and ensured his financial future, he appeared to become a different person. When the season started, we no longer saw a player capably of breaking off a long run. You didn’t see the burst.

Instead, you saw Zeke go through holes as if he was carrying a 40-pound bookbag filled with rocks. How in the world is Lamb going to contribute to THAT?!

If he's truly like D Hopkins then we scored! Remember, Hopkins was a #2 at first and it took him approximately two-three years to develop and take over the #1 WR spot on Houston.

True evaluation, but Hopkins wasn't drafted to be the WR3, granted they still had a 32 yr old Andre Johnson, but Cee Dee is in a totally different environment.
He isn't expected to be the WR1, that is the beauty of the draft pick.
Esp when he might become the best WR on this team still during his rook year, that's saying a lot, I get it, but having all 3 is a non argument as top 3-4 teams in the league with
this level of WR talent.
Its a really good thing to have.

We already had two 1000 yard receivers. If lamb performs anywhere near the level of his college resume, could three 1000 yard wr's be possible? Almost had that last year.

I don;t expect him to "take over" immediately. But his impact will surely be felt right off the bat.

The potential to hit that mark is there.

The primary difference in X and Z is that the X receiver is up on the line and can't motion while the Z is a step back and can motion.

The X/Z receiver is a good discussion point. Fan/media often say Cooper should play from the slot, but the Z receiver can do many of the same things as the slot WR in terms of motion, etc.

The Cowboys didn't play Gallup/Cooper strictly as X/Z.

I just reviewed games 1 and 4 from last season. There was a constant mix of ON the line, OFF the line combinations.
Out=Outside WR

ON: Slot, TE
OFF: Out, Out

ON: Out, Out
OFF: Slot, TE

ON: Out, TE
OFF: Out, Slot

ON: Out, Slot
OFF: Out, TE

Blame the coaches, and play calling. When it was obvious running up the middle was not working, they kept pounding him there.
The Vikings sideline game footage was proof of this. Gary Brown kept telling Moore, hit the middle they will cave. Well they didn't. So on the last drive Moore does what Brown says, again. Nothing, then a stupid little pass to the sideline with the team in disarray.

Zeke will hit those holes this year, because they will have to respect the 3 WR's and a TE that can actually get up field. And we have Blake Bell a good blocking TE.

Possibly with Lamb they can't double cover, or roll coverage toward Cooper as often. This can make that percentile increase even against press coverage. Or they can't use press coverage as often. Good write up, but just a thought on my part as to possibly things changing.

Lamb fits all the WR positions which I why we will see Lamb, Cooper, and Gallup switching around at various times.

Agree, however with the lack of off season OTA's, mini camps. Will they have a chance to learn all the plays at different X, Y, Z positions. It may be limited. But with only 2 PS games, it will give them a few extra weeks to concentrate on it.
