No way Jerry cuts him unless he's beyond awful.
Anyone still want to claim we shouldn't have drafted Juan Thornhill ?
I don't think anyone ever did.Anyone still want to claim we shouldn't have drafted Juan Thornhill ?
I recall commenting on this months ago, and looking at it exactly the way this writer has.
True, the numbers dont favor him, but unfortunately injuries usually decide these things and probably will play a role here as well.
He definitely cant just show up thinking he has made the team.
On flip side, Poe and McCoy are on the back end of their careers, Woods has some sort of legal thing hanging over him IIRC, and is up for a contract...and down the line.
A position that looks deep could thin out quickly.
Is he a future pro bowler (haven't watched him)?
I don't think anyone ever did.
Based on the reports...they should've expected that. One thing that was consistent throughout his scouting reports was his attitude. He also wasn't expected to walk in with a bad attitude and spend most of the season inactive while they traded for other candidates either.
Needing development is one thing, being uncooperative and unreceptive to developing is quite another.

This is the probably the strongest statement i've seen. We went and signed 2 interior defensive lineman to start, drafted a 3rd round interior lineman in Gillmore and then offered contracts to Woods and Hamilton with the intention of both of them being veteran interior backupsI mean we have basically addressed our interior DL like he is not on the team.
He was projected to be a day 1 starter and that's exactly what he did (rookie year he was graded as a mid tier starter)Is he a future pro bowler (haven't watched him)?
I'm not either. The good part about this year is they address DT so much that they don't have to rely on Hill. I hope he works out. I don't know enough about him to not like him but yeah I don't hold my breath on him. He shouldn't have any excuses though. Charlton had the coaching staff in place. Hill has a new staff so he can essentially start from scratch to win them over. Has Jerry who doesn't want to chalk down another fail picked. Has competition to raise his level. They should have, but apparently Hill was able to fool Marinelli into taking him at his word rather than going by what his coaches said and felt about him. So much so, that by season's end, even the guy who campaigned to draft him was reportedly "done with him". And now that almost all of the former staff is gone, Hill has few, if any supporters. Therefore, he will have to earn everything he gets, he will either sink or swim based on his own merits, as it should be.
And while I'm hopeful that this young player can turn it around, I'm not optimistic and I expect Hill to go the same route that Taco Charlton did and result in another significant wasted draft commodity.
Add up both Charlton and Hill, and we're talking about getting nothing from 1st and 2nd round picks invested in the defensive line, putting the organization way behind in that area. As a result, it's why they had to pay Lawrence whatever he demanded, and why they've had to go to free agency to sign McCoy and Poe to make up for their misses. And why they continue to roll the dice on reclamation projects like Gregory and Aldon Smith at RDE.
Marinelli's poor evaluations have cost this organization big-time.
That is 99% of the problem. He wasn't expected to walk in and produce. We all knew he was a bit of a project. It was a little disappointing season but not completely unexpected especially considering the Marinelli factor.
