It's a slow time with everything going on.

So I thought I would bring up one of my favorite Cowboys playsrs.

Dan Reeves I remember back in 1966. We were just beginning to win. In the summer of 1966 Landry had experimented with the HB position.

Landry moved Mel Mel Renfro from CB where he was All Pro to HB. Mel was fast and had good hands but he was soon out with an injury.

Dan Reeves was a QB out of South Carolina. Reeves went in and quickly became the starter. Bowlegged and not very fast..he sort of glided along and slipped upfield at will.

Before long. Landry had invented the multiple offense using motion and shifts and Reeves was featured in this offense.

Reeves was especially known for throwing the HB pass and made it a deadly play in the offense.

After his playing career he went on to coach 3 other teams to great success. Unfortunately he never won a Super Bowl but his career brought great honor to our franchise.

Here is an interesting documentary on Reeves. Most current fans do not know this part of our heritage as a football team but its there.

Enjoy.

was a solid runner and big part of the offense in a run first era until his injury in '68- was never able to recover

Reeves almost joined Wade's coaching staff but Jerry/Garrett made that move unpalatable.

Reeves was involved in the hiring of the only consecutive playoff season Head Coach after Jerry Jones fired Jimmy Johnson...Chan Gailey (who is back in the NFL as OC). Reeves also tried to help Wade and the hopelessly unqualified Jason Garrett as OC of the Cowboys but got into it with Jerry Jones when he asked him "punch the clock" in his consulting contract.

By my favorite memory of Reeves was trying to get Duane "Sphinx" Thomas to answer roll call.

Reeves coached Roger Staubach, John Elway, and Michael Vick three of the most athletic mobile QBs in NFL history. He drafted both Elway and Vick.

We lost out as a franchise not having him as a HC.

He obviously learned from Landry and went on to have a checkered career. I listen to him talk and he seems so connected with his position. Good repoir with his players

When the opportunity presents itself again replace "repoir" with "rapport", but I got your meaning.

Yes.

I remember.

I definitely wanted him as a HC.

One of the best OC/HC guys we could have had.

He really wouldn't have been a candidate in the time frame when Wade was coaching the Cowboys, but a lot of people, myself included, thought he was going to be the successor to Landry bck in the day. Of course that dream took a hit when he got a head coaching opportunity long before Landry was gone, but even then many felt he would be lured away when Landry finally retired. Then it took another hit when Murchinson and Schramm were out of the picture.

Yes.

And we were not the better for that.

Reeves was extremely good offensively.

We just missed not having him.

That's is my point in the thread.

Me and my spellchecker.

What a bromance.

It's like letting your GF/wife navigate a trip.

She will circle the value malls..

you will underline the fishing spots or whatever.

Then both of you have to endure 2-3 days at either your mom's house or her mom's.

My spell checker and my GPS speak the same language.

Sometimes it's just oblivious. I blame Bill Gates.

He does not strike me as a trusted lead Scout type of guy.
