There was actually an argument on the Draft board months ago where someone was arguing/hinting that it was possible if Dak played in KC, he'd be viewed as good as Mahomes. Of course that was ridiculous, but entertaining nonetheless.
Yeah I mean I like Dak like the next Dak guy but yeah that's going overboard. Granted, I do think he has had better coaching than Dak but the eye test tells you most of the story that Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league and he's starting his career off better than anyone I've ever seen. Only has started for 2 years and has a MVP and a Super Bowl.

So the new part of the deal is 10 years/$450m, but only $63m is fully guaranteed at signing? That goes up to $103m guaranteed by next March, but still, isn't that insanely low for this guy?

Good for the Chiefs to gives Mahomes a mega-headline to brag about while protecting themselves, I guess?

A huge amount of it is funny money that's not guaranteed and may never be paid at all, though. It's kind of impressive how fake the deal is (in KC's favor) actually.

There are essentially rolling guarantees with the various roster bonuses that have to picked up by the Chiefs a year or two before they would be paid.

*unfortunately, Dak is an entirely Different brand of marketable commodity as compared to Mahomez,,, ( not a 'knock' against the #4 ,as he's a tank rolling across barbwire in many regards)

*World's Coming to an end , I don't even care, , , dud-dud-dud,,,dud-dud-dud,,,dunt-dunt,duho_O

I'm sort of amazed Mahomes and his agent went along with that. One Bridgewater-tier knee injury out of nowhere in the offseason and the team can basically punt on $400m of the contract or something.

Again, good for the Chiefs, but wow.

That’s why he signed the tag. It’s not about money with him don’t you know this. And how we’ve been doing this all along. This just Sets sets him up again
Shoot, I'll willingly feel the burn for 30-something million dollars, no doubt.

3 years only if they are going to cut Mahomes (haha no). Its similar to how the Cowboys could have cut Tyron for very little this year.

Meanwhile CBS, Schefter, Rap, PFR (and I can keep going) are ALL saying the EXTENSION is 10 years (note 10 years not 12) worth 477 million with incentives that can push it to 503. Now those incentives are very unlikely to trigger (I think Schefter said there were 2 each year: 1 for winning AFC Championship and 1 for SB), but they exist and the 477 in guarantees is separate from that.

Yes, but it could happen. Technically, only three years are guaranteed. The extension is 10 years, the remaining years on the contract are 2, so 10 and 2 is 12. The money is 477 with another 53 in incentives. Only 63 is fully guaranteed up front and the injury payout is 140. It's a 3 year deal, pay as you go. He didn't get a new contract, he got an extension so the deal is 12 years. You can argue all you want but that's what the deal appears to be.

Doesn't both me.
Never has

I was just giving a per year net present value of Mahomes’ deal.
If its 5 years, 175 and 110+ guaranteed like most say, the current offer Dak is getting from Dallas is very good.

You can give whatever figure of Mahomes's deal to make it look like Dak should get less but that's not how contracts are looked at. And offering Dak the same guarantee as Goff in 5 years vs. Goff's 4 years is NOT a good deal. Here's how contracts are looked at:

Are Mahomes and Wilson neck and neck here? Lol.

Except if he is getting the equivalent of 45 million in that 5th year then he would have no reason to care.

Saying I will do 4 years for 148 but for 5 years it needs to be 193 and I do not care how you structure it is probably accurate. He still gets the money he wants (aka the end goal) and when the team likely leaked it they did as saying he wanted 45 million in the 5th year (technically true but misleading).

He can say anything he wants but the reality is that the Tag limits how much the team has to pay. The deal is cheaper if the team just continues to tag him and then gives him his 3 or 4 year deal later.

I think the league will have to step in an support it
No doubt it has to be less revenue this year which would lower cap next year
But the implications of a lower cap would do so much harm I think the league will have to atleast keep it the same as it is this year
A falling cap, even for one year could devastate some teams

Which is why I think you see the cap go up significantly for a good 2 or 3 years.

I think there are injury guarantees in there somewhere. I thought I read if he gets hurt, there is something like $140MM in guaranteed money embedded in the deal.

Exactly. Dak and his agent want Dak to hit FA after the 4th year. By asking for $45MM in cash in that 5th year, he's basically forcing Dallas to cut him and send him to FA (or Dallas extends prior to the start of the 5th year) or simply pay him that $45MM in the 5th year, which would be a massive chunk of change, and then he can cash in the following year. He's basically putting Dallas in a lose-lose situation.

I agree.

This should show you how unimportant AAV is in terms of figuring out a contract. AAV is largely meaningless, especially when you see that Mahomes' contract turns out to be nothing but a bunch of rolling, guaranteed roster bonuses for a heavy chunk of the contract.

Sure, we have no idea if he even asked for that, but to act like it would make no sense to do that is funny. It would make perfect sense to ask for a ridiculous payout in the 5th year. He also floated this whole argument that what if he has a bad year in the 5th year? What if he signs a 4 year contract and has a bad 4th year? We can play this game all day long.

The real truth is that if he really wants out of Dallas, he can make that happen. He can ask for stupid things until the team just decides to move on. Or, he can sign a reasonable deal and have a great career in Dallas.
