Well kind of, relatively speaking that is. If you consider an 80 to 100 mil dead cap cheap. But i guess that's an out for the chiefs if he has a career ending injury.

The highest is can be is the one guaranteed year from when they picked up the previous year, so the worst it could be is 49.4m in 2027 because Mahomes would have been on the roster in 2026 thus making 2027 guaranteed

Oh you are clearly trolling so I'm not even going to address the Dalton talk. Either you are trolling or truly believe that and I'm not getting into a debate about this team signing Dalton to be starter because that's just STUPID. Makes ZERO sense.

In regards to Jerry you better believe he's pandering. Go to the 2017 season to see him pander.

And you better believe Jerry wants to keep that locker room happy. You can be naive and cover your eyes and ears if you want but its a different time. Jerry doesn't want to be on the wrong side of the battle.
Dalton is capable and would excel. He is Taylored Made for the Cowboys. Its Ironic because he is actually the Anti-Dak in every way

Are you implying the Cowboys Locker room are on the edge of Mutiny?

All Rookie is not All Pro. It's not even close.

All Pro is the best player at the position in the ENTIRE NFL. The rookie award there might be a handful of players eligible at the position, sometimes it's by default.

You call me a hater because I stated a fact. A fact is a fact, there is no hate involved. It just is. That's common sense.
The criteria is being one of the best rookies from that year.

Dak won the AP rookie of the year in 2016, along with being on the rookie team.

Zeke won PFWA rookie of the year in 2016. He also made the All-pro team.
Zach Martin was on the rookie of the year team and made the all pro team.

Dak has not been an all-pro selection.
Crabs in a barrel.....

Facts One: Rookies are Professional Football Players

Fact Two: Every player selected by the PFWA for All Pro or All Rookie team played against the same pool of NFL talent

Fact Three: Brady, Matt and Dak were the only 3 QBs to be awarded All - Anything by PFF, PFWA & SN in 2016

Has deductive reasoning been outlawed too

Dak played at an All Pro level 2016.

Marino was All Rookie Team 1983 but Theismann was the 1st Team All Pro....Marino went on to be All Pro in 1984 but does his rookie status somehow eliminate the All Pro play in 1983??

Dak should hold out for the 40 million a year he’s allegedly been asking for.

There’s no doubt he’s worth as much as Mahomes. Lol

You had me at guestimate.....

Wow....now you are ascribing to me, a "comparison" I didn't make.

so dont hide behind ignorance of faulty logic - there's a very good guestimate of where it will lead.

Quite easy to project the likely CAP figure, just look at the previous years ($10m increase 2018-19, $11m increase 2019-2020).

....then prior to the virus it was projected at $17m increase 2020 - 2021, though with the financial slowdown this may well come in lower.

Live in denial all you want, but any increase in line with Mahomes (and taking into account a fairly small gap in ability) Dak will have to accept a 5 year deal.... (or 4 starting in 2021).

Genius, one last time.

They may have played against everyone in the NFL, but only a very few are ELIGIBLE for rookie award, a very much smaller pool. In some positions there might be only one candidate available and gets voted All Rookie by default. This is not the case with All Pro. And the official All Pro list is by the Associated Press, and none else. So don't start mudding the waters with other publications.

Marino wasn't All Pro in 1983, he was named All Rookie like Prescott. If he were All Pro he would have been named to the team, but he wasn't. The level of play doesn't matter. Once again it's about facts. You either are voted All Pro or your not, period.

If Dak played at an all pro level... He would of made the all pro team. Hey, he did make the Probowl in his first year which is impressive.

All rookie team only compares rookies vs rookies. Hence the award being called " All rookie team". That doesn't put them on an equal level with players on the All-pro team, unless of course they actually make the All-pro squad.

Marino made the 2nd team All-pro team in 1983 along with PFWA All Rookie team. In 1984 He made 1st team All-pro.
Dak didn't make All-pro first or second team in 2016.

You're in denial again.

The reality is still that if Dak is such a "savvy business man" he'll realise the CAP issues' we've got.

I note you're not actually contributing to what you think Dak will get?

It was

it wasn’t an actual trade suggestion

what I was stating was if you mess around and let go of Dak through a double tag, you risk ending up like the Commanders

Think e Commanders would like a do-over on how they handles Cousins? They went cheap, tried to get cute, trying to milk a couple of years on the tag and then got stuck

now they have a borderline starting quality QB who better have a big year or he will be a bust

They are ok the verge of being in a QB wasteland where they could wander for years, never able to compete, hoping against hope to find a quality starter.

That’s what we risk by rolling the dice and letting Dak hit true free agency after next season. Someone will pay him, just like the Vikings did, and by that point the relationship will be so bad that Dak will be looking to start somewhere else where a team shows him commitment

Dak is a quality NFL starting QB. People trick themselves into believing those are easy to find

Ask the Commanders.
Ask the Jaguars.
Ask the Bears.

Exactly. Therein lies the leverage. Dak would still have to perform but if Dallas wants 5 years at this point they better up that guarantee money above Goff's $110M. The AAV I think will be near $37M but the guarantee needs to come up to the $120s range, IMO.

Leave it to Cowboy fans to overrate another talent this time Andy Dalton lol. I know Bengals fans are somewhere laughing at us lol.

And no, I don't think they'd stage a mutiny.
Oh do tell. . . In which way did I "OVERESTIMATE" Him

Projecting again.

I simply said I liked what Bucky has to say.

(By the way, go ask who Bengal Fans would rather have Dak or the Rookie)

Star Telegram reported this 3-26-2020:
When the Cowboys put the exclusive franchise tag on Prescott on March 16, it was after he turned down an updated offer of at least $34 million annually. He had turned down a deal for $33 million annually with $105 million in guarantee money last September.

If the above is true then Dak, then his agents definitely did the right thing for better money and length of years. It has nothing to do with Mahomes but Russell Wilson contract.

Russell Wilson's contract was the highest in average annual salary per season and every QB that sign prior got the highest average annual salary per season. So why in the world would you accept a contract less than that bench mark. Kurt Cousin had no playoff wins when he got paid. Dak beat the Rams with Goff at QB in the regular season (soundly), and Wentz has no playoff wins and Dak is the more winning QB. So not getting a match or above Russell Wilson (Dak beat Wilson in the playoffs), is just bad negotiating.

Now enter Mahomes who is a outlander as a QB and contract offer. His agent Leigh Steinberg loves moving the dot in salaries for QBs. So it would have been business smart and known to Jerry Jones that Steinberg would put a big delta between Mahomes' and Wilson's salary. Jerry Jones hands cramped up because he had a lousy Head Coach and now his wallet is going to pay for it. Do you think Dak would be pushing the length of contract shorter with Andy Reid, Sean McVay, Doug Petersen, or Pete Carroll as Head Coach. He had a lousy Head Coach chosen by Jerry Jones who was a lame duck head coach last year. With that uncertainty why sign a long term deal. Troy Aikman signed long term because Jimmy Johnson had a 10 year contract. Steinberg would have advised Mahomes the same way in the same situation with Jason Garrett, lame duck coach, as HC of the Cowboys.

So Jerry is going to have to sign Dak Prescott north of Rusell Wilson's deal and south of Mahomes contract length as M&M last season in the NFL got him fired. If M&M gets Dak and the Cowboys to the NFC Championship game or Super Bowl then there is stability for a long term deal but the money is going to always be more the Russell Wilson and maybe higher than Mahomes after that type of season. So the only losers in this new Dak contract situation is Jerry Dumbo GM Jones bank account and his cramping hands.

He is my hero, before him Dak wasn't making any waves, he was going along with the program. . . About to be adopted as Jerry's grandson. . . Now, everything has changed and relationships have soured.

Thank you Mr. France for your advice in these matters

Not sure if this has been posted in the thread. I put this in the Mahomes thread but his first 5 years give him a little under $35m per year. There are about $106m of guarantees in the deal from what I read on hot takes. Its extremely team friendly with a lot of options for the team to restructure in the future.

To a large degree, the Cowboys offered Dak (if the 5 year 35m per year offer is true) a better contract than Mahomes got. This might absolutely break the Dak negotiations. If the two sides were off before, the Mahomes deal is going to make it much, much worse.

Thanks for the explanation. On that point, I personally don't think $38-40 is now the new minimum to do a deal with Dak, but obvious we don't yet know how the market in general and Dak in particular will react to Mahomes deal.

Here's the problem that many people have. Because one team went totally overboard paying the defending Super Bowl champions QB and MVP does not mean that every QB's market value has shot up to the 38-40 mil a year range. If Mitchell Trubisky was negotiating a new contract would his value now be 38-40 mil a year - NO. I've said it before there is not a one size fits all market value for each position. The better the player, the higher their market value is. Yes most players negotiating a new contract have a higher market value than the player's who play the same position did the year before, but that doesn't mean all players in any position automatically jumps up the the top of the market value. We agree that 38-40 mil a year is more than Prescott is worth and is not now the new minimum for Prescott. One last thing I also agree that players have a right to get as much as they can and/or take team friendly deals if they chose to do so. Their decision should be and is based on their needs and their family's needs and not what fans think they should do.

I agree on all of this. The one thing I would say though is while I agree Dak isn't worth $38-40 million now (and I doubt he will be asking for that), a year from now may be a different story. The gap between Mahomes contract and contracts at lower levels won't always be as big as it is now, and the longer Mahomes contract is in place, the more the entire market may start creeping up.

That’s kind of where I am at. Maybe not 120. Was thinking 115. I think mahomes got all that money and only 63 million guaranteed at signing. 150 for injury.
