well this is not really a great argument because Zeke has started out and until now has played with "HOF" talent in Tyron Smith, Frederick, Martin, as well as a good passing game, and a future HOF TE (albeit end of career, but still)

Along the OL but ES had the best ever, and Zeke has not had a wide out like Mike and TE like Jay, Witt was a shell of himself the last 2 years and could not out run my 8 year old daughter. And like stated in another post come PO and SB time bet Troy.

Entirely different circumstances, it would be totally unfair to compare their first 4 seasons.

Suppose Zeke had a Daryl Johnston with him in the backfield?

These days, you rarely see two back sets, it's usually two TE's or three WR's. There is rarely that bruising FB clearing a hole.

On the the hand, two TE or three WR sets are far more open, secondaries are forced to contend with more dynamic receiving threats.

Back to my original statement.....unfair comparison. However, Cowboy fans extremely fortunate to have them both in our franchise history.

The point is that Zeke is an excellent RB. One of the best in the league and he has been over the past 4 years. Further, he's a very good blocker. He makes players around him look better than they actually are in my view.

Zeke had the better entry into the NFL. He was the best back in football year 1. His first two years in the league were essentially Emmitt's 3rd and 4th years.

"Eventually" Emmitt had the best OL ever and he had Dez, or Cooper and Gallup, and I don't think Jay Novacek really did much to help Emmitt. Having Moose lead the way was a huge help, once the OL gelled.

look, this is crazy to compare these two because it is unfair for both considering they come from two different time periods, two different types of football.

When the Cowboys won there three superbowls in the 90's, it was an era where players around the league and on both sides of the ball played smashmouth football. Players did not have rules against getting hit, or hitting a certain way. It was much more gang tackle skill

{"Cowboysheelsreds053, post: 10280702, member: 40011"]Along the OL but ES had the best ever, and Zeke has not had a wide out like Mike and TE like Jay, Witt was a shell of himself the last 2 years and could not out run my 8 year old daughter. You say Troy is reason for Emmitt, well (and don't misconstrue this as me saying Dak is better than Troy cuz I am not) check out and compare Troy's best years with Daks first 4.
Daks put up some yards with a bunch of good WRs. His stats show it. like I said earlier, Emmitt didn't have cushions that todays players do to protect their body so there's that. Emmitt in his prime would kill it on this team, but Zeke holds his own very well and we will be fine.

Don't get me wrong, and the reason why I posted before about this being dumb to even compare the two, I like Zeke and think he is more than one team needs to win games with. I will say we need to utilize Tony Pollard more in runs and passing game.
And saying all that, I still sit on the fence about paying Dak all that money. I will be fine if they do (because it ain't my money )

Agree with your assessment here, but you can bet your bottoms that if you stacked the line to stop ES, that Troy to Mike or the others receivers would pick you apart. Troy did not have to throw as much as Dak but when had too he was money on the biggest stage also and could make all throws but agree with what you are saying.

Because the game is different. I am not certain how you are but in todays games, you have way more snaps on Offense then you ever did, even when Emmitt played. The Defenses today are really not built to stop the run. They are built to defend the pass. The Defenses that Emmitt played against when he was coming up were just different. Was a much more physical game in those days. You could target the football with your helmet, you could target the head, you could actually target the center and play him heads up on the snap. You could gang tackle. You could actually finish off ball carriers. So many things are different now in how the game is actually played, that effect the stats.
I think Zeke would have handled playing during Emmitt's era just fine. He's just that style of player.

Perhaps but that was not really the discussion. The thread is comparing the two and using stats to justify which is better. I don't believe that is equitable.

Sorry but wasn't Zeke's response pretty humble? Not humble would be, "I know!" or "Glad he sees that." Some pretty slanted opinions in here based on if they like Zeke or not. The numbers up for comparison are "First 4 years" and people somehow feel the need to call in Emmitt's whole career to measure the 2. That's pretty interesting to me.

No truer statement ever spoken.
