Tony’s best plays typically involve a defender falling down.

nope, no way, sorry Tony/.

to be fair, romo is at least 10:years away from The HoF. Based on his playing years and his sports broadcasting career.

everyone knows who Tony Romo is.

he needs the RoH first.

You are projecting. As of right now, including his broadcasting career, he has not earned Pro Football HoF honors. Another 10 years in the broadcast business isn't going to change that. Tony is only 40 y/o. Maybe if he broadcasts 25 years he will be worthy of the HoF.

He's 7th all time in Touchdowns and Passing Yards. 7th in completion. That's better than any Cowboy. How is that not impressive?
No doubt, Eli has very good volume numbers.
Not at all impressive year to year.....pretty average....but when you add average up 16 years, you get a lot of volume numbers by just showing up.

Add the rings (even if it was mainly defenses) you have a guy who is much more likely to make the HOF before a far better QB, but who had no rings or a ton of years, such as Romo.

On a year to year basis, Eli was actually a bit worse than Andy Dalton.
But he played longer

If romo makes the hall of fame ill delete my account. And i would stop watching football all together.

Edit: For his play not his broadcasting ability.

I think he’s a hall of famer down the line. I’ve already said, if Fouts got in, Romo gets in. Romo retired as the 4th highest rated passer all time, 5th all time ypa, 5th in completion percentage.

A friend of mine has researched Romo’s career heavily and basically come to the conclusion that he is the best player to not win a super bowl and has a lot of criteria similar to other QBs in the Hall.

Quarterbacks from 1960-2018 that have the following:

- 200+ touchdown passes
- Passing titles (ex: led league in yards passing, completion pct etc)
- Ranked top 2 in stats multiple times in career
- Made All Pro Team (1st or 2nd Team)
- Ranked Top 5 All Time in Career Stats

Tom Brady
Joe Montana
Steve Young
John Elway
Dan Marino
Len Dawson
Warren Moon
Dan Fouts
Fran Tarkenton
Peyton Manning
Aaron Rodgers
Drew Brees
Brett Favre
Kurt Warner
Matt Ryan
Tony Romo

When looking at a player's career, I think this is a great way to measure statistical success. If you want to say "a Super Bowl appearance makes you great". Ok. Let's look at the qbs of that era that at least made it (besides the obvious Brady, Peyton etc):

Trent Dilfer, Kerry Collins, Brad Johnson, Chris Chandler, Rec Grossman, Joe Flacco, Jeff Hostetler, Stan Humphries, Jake Delhomme, Matt Hasselbeck, Nick Foles...REALLY???? Stop the nonsense! Yes there are really good ones like Rothlisberger, Eli, McNabb, Gannon, McNair etc but let's be real. Numbers don't lie. People do. Jim Plunkett has multiple rings. Fouts and Moon have never been to a Super Bowl.

Romo has led the league in passer rating, yards per attempt, completion percentage and game winning drives.

I agree with all the above. Factor in his two rings he’s a lock. I think he’s the Jerome Bettis of quarterbacks.

And I’d take Romo any day is the week over Eli but I don’t know if I’d say he’s far better or was anyway.

I'm taking playoff Eli over playoff Romo tho.

Yet Romo was better than Eli in every single PLAYOFF stat that didn't require either to play defense or special teams. It wasnt by a mile like it was in the regular season ,but it was better across the board

TD to Int ratio (4:1 vs 2:1)
QB rating. (93 vs 87)
Completion %. (62 vs 61)
YPA. (7.1 vs 7.0)

Still...Eli has a way higher chance to get in the HOF than Tony, but on average we wasn't the better player.

The problem with the Fouts comparison is you aren't considering where Fouts stood in history at the time he retired. He was #2 in all time passing yards, and #4 in all time TDs. That's why he was able to get in without a Super Bowl - because he was statistically so far up the list at the time. The same kind of situation applies with Moon.

Accordingly, you can't simply look at Romo's stats compared to Fouts because it doesn't account for where the players fit with their peers at the time.

And, after all, that's all HOF voters can go by. They don't have a crystal ball to know how far the passing game will advance over time, and compare the players in their time to those in the future. Of course, even if they could, they shouldn't because that would mean almost nobody in the past would be in, and maybe even many in who have got in more recently. Players should be voted on based on how things stood at the time.

All these stats are true and no matter how you slice it (time-adjusted for era or not) Romo always ends up on lists surrounded by HOFers.

But like I’ve always said, he needed more healthy years to run up his volume stats or a SB appearance to be a real consideration.
