When we look at the changes along the OL this season, the majority believe the unit will be not as good, mainly due to the loss of Travis Frederick.

Frederick was an all-pro center when he was healthy, but he was a shell of himself from the physical standpoint after his illness. He decided to call it a career, when he knew he could no longer play up to his high standards. The team will certainly feel his loss in leadership and his high IQ making all the pre-snap protection calls. Keep in mind we aren't replacing the all pro Travis, but rather the last year's version of him.

You can look up all the early 2020 mocks drafts and you will find Tyler Biadasz projected as a 1st round pick. Many media scouts projected him as a sure fire day 2 selection this year. His play did dip somewhat after hip surgery, but many believe he will be able to return close to 100%. Make no mistake, Biadasz is a high level prospect, no matter where he was drafted.

Connor McGovern received a 2nd rd grade from the Cowboy Front Office, in which they decided to take him when still available in rd 3. They said it was a blinking light pick, as he was atop of their draft board. Unfortunately, McGovern got hurt in the off-season workouts, in which he had to have a red shirt type of season. He has starting experience at both Guard and the Center positions. McGovern is considered a high level future starter prospect. The two Connor's are both talented players in which the loser becomes a quality, gameday, active reserve player.

Cameron Erving is an former 1st rd selection who has the versatility to backup all 5 positions and easily can spot start if needed. He might be a small upgrade over Fleming as the team's swing tackle, but he offers veteran insurance across the entire line.

Zach Martin was playing hurt all season long. Still was playing at a high level, but probably not on an all-pro level that he has in the past. Probably his worst season as a Cowboy, which is saying a lot, as he still was a pro bowl player at the position. Better health could have him reach those elite levels of production once again.

The depth along the entire OL is the best we have seen in many years. The offense is going to have backups with starting experience that have the versatility to play multiple positions along the OL. Add in the return to the zone blocking scheme in which the OL has been prior success with, the group has potential to become even better.

A lot of young prospects, but with more experience they can become quality, high end starters for the future. Perhaps we will see some early growing pains, but by mid season this group could be very good!

I only read the very first bit, but we need to stop lying to ourselves.

Hyperbole is always bad, Frederick was not an all-pro last season but he was still a top tier center. He allowed only 1 sacks and had 1 penalty for the season. Saying he was a "shell of himself", come on.
Here is what happened along the OL this season.

LT got another year older
LG added competition from a redshirt sophomore
C lost a top tier center and only added a rookie coming off injury
RG is another year older
RT nothing has changed
Swing tackle we found a way to get worse, which I didn't think was possible.

We need the staff to have these players ready. We lost our O-Line coach.

We had a good one and JG let him go to the bengals and then hired there coach after he was fired. Then fire him and give it to Columbo, now we let him go...

Seems like it's the one positive constant with this team since Tyron's draft.
Had the hiccup with the brief Alexander coaching experiment but for the most part both talent acquisition and development of said talent has been consistently good to excellent.
All the different coaching combos of Callahan,
Houck as consultant, Columbo, Pollack etc have produced an experienced, talented and scheme versatile group.
I look forward to the newer guys being integrated and for this one positive team constant to continue on.

With Woicek gone, I want to see if Tyron has any back issues now. With a new OL coach, and the Assistant S&C cochleae, now the Head S&C coach, hopefully he has a better and different philosophy on training them.

Williams has been improving, before his injury. Though as usual many on here already made up their minds not to believe it.
Travis, I would not say was a shell of himself, but he certainly was not himself, and he knew that. Could he still play and get back to it. I think he could, but he decided not to risk it. And I do not blame him. As having GBS myself, I know what he has gone through, and still possibly will.
Martin should be 100% and Collins has turned into a very good RT.

The potential is there to be a great OL again, if they get the C position worked out. And there are options. But it may not be until 2021 season to see it more so than this season. McGovern could compete at C and LG, Biadasz of course at C also. Looney as depth, but do not be surprised if he starts the season at C. That depends on how many reps they can get in during TC to compete.

I think there is also a lot of depth on the OL as well. Erving as a FA, then Knight & Redmond from the roster last season, which they seem to like both of them. Then has Hyatt improved, gotten stronger? Many really like him, but I was never impressed. Maybe I will be this TC.

entirely possible....but Erving is not an upgrade over Fleming...but all other things considered including Biadasz and Mcgovern in my opinion really shoot up out stock

The Oline is in the middle of a rebuild. A stroke of luck that aided that cause was Collins finally living up to his first round grade as one of the better tackles. Lets hope he keeps it up.

The LG spot has been a work in progress and the Center position is also in rebuild. At least we have some young pieces to try and sort that out.

Frederick wasn't a top tier center last season, even he himself would admit it. We heard stories that Columbo refused to call him out for his poor play.

Columbo helped solidify the group once he took control of the unit. Coached more of a man blocking scheme which he used as a player. Team's best success in recent years was when they used the zone blocking scheme, especially in the ground game.

-Williams was far better last season then many would give him credit for.
-Travis did struggle at times last season, where we aren't accustomed to seeing it. He play was more serviceable then anything else, not top tier by any means
-The likes of both Connors/Biad offer the team high valued, highly talented prospects within the group. We may see all 3 start one day.

Being able to keep the oline in tact has been huge.

Still can't believe we were able to retain Collins.

Collins wanted to remain here ,... Cowboys wanted him to remain here. Mutual agreement long term.
That's what happened.
With that in mind, there's nothing to disbelieve.

Tyron's back lasted the season looking healthy, Collins is borderline pro bowl, Martin should only be better starting healthy, and Williams should certainly be better. He's a young guy who needed to bulk up playing a power position.

Biadasz and McGovern are two high quality prospects for C, and we've got Leary as a fallback. We probably start the season better than last year, but that's largely on Frederick starting so slowly.

I like the interior depth, but not Erving over Fleming.

C was going to be fun to watch. Voldemort probably puts McGovern out of the running. Biadasz has at least been playing C for years, and Looney has been our backup.
