Digital Games: I was so against digital games at first. I felt I needed a copy of a game in my hand to feel satisfied and like I got my money's worth. These days, I prefer it. For starters, you don't have to go anywhere to buy a game (anybody remember waiting in lines at midnight for a game release?) Second, and this may be the ultimate laziness, but, I love being able to switch between games without getting up. :D Plus for a person like myself that has 2 two Xbox consoles, I can walk from my living room to my man cave without having to carry a disc. It's just super convenient. I guess the only drawback is not having a second-hand market. I used to like trading in my games I didn't play anymore, but really, you don't get jack for trade in value anyway. So may as well just delete it and have it in your cloud in case you ever want to play it again. Honestly, I have some games on disc that I wish I could trade in for digital copies now. I'd probably play them more. lol
I changed my stance as well in recent years as I bought new digital version of my old physical games when they were on sale which allowed me to get rid of my space wasting storage containers of old physical games.

That said, there is one advantage physical games have over digital games and that's not having to download them yet again when you want to re-install them or you get a new system. While bandwidth is getting better for people in larger cities, bandwidth speed and limits are still a reality for a lot of gamers. When a game requires a several hour plus download, it's too easy to just find something else to play instead.

Death Stranding - Played it. Really tried to like it. But meh. I definitely get the walking simulator label. The graphics were fantastic and I thought the story line was quite intriguing, but dang, continuously trying to walk around a map while not falling over definitely gets boring. Just not for me but I understand some people enjoy different things.
I only called it a walking simulator because it became a running joke. I know very little about the game other than I have seen the walking and more walking videos :D

Microsoft Flight Simulator - I used to play one WAY back in the day. Was a pretty fascinating game really. Would love to peek at what a new one would look/be like, but, I'm not sure my PC would qualify. The graphics card (or lack thereof) being the very limiting bottleneck. Thought about upgrading but I have a SFF frame and it really limits me. Plus, after my last PC, I love how quiet this one is. :D
I have never been interested in general flight simulators as I preferred more combat-based flight games, but what they are doing with the new Flight Simulator sounds amazing and may be a sample of things to come for other games in the future.

First off, these games are averaging damn near 100GB now, and that doesn't fit on a disk! Second, even if you had the disk, the patches that come out are 50GB sometimes! So, even though you can use the disk to install them, the patches get you after the fact. At least the download for the installer is up to date most of the time and you don't have to download another 50GB after the fact just to update it to the latest version.

So, I don't feel a physical disk has much of any value anymore. Especially because you can't fit 100GB on a DVD anyhow.

It would only take 20 dual layer DVDs for the new Flight Simulator! :D

It's interesting. My first computer I ever bought myself had a 1.275GB hard drive. That was MASSIVE! The first PCs we had didn't have any hard drives. Then we had one with 30MBs, then 100MBs, then I got the 1.275GB hard drive. (my buddy and I still say, "1.275 gigabyte hard drive" as a joke from time to time)

I remember, I bought a zip drive as my first backup system because it supported 100MB. Of course, that didn't work out so well because zip drives were notorious for their issues.

....you would only need a minimum of 1500 zip drive disks to hold the new Flight Simulator! rofl

And 1 more thing that sticks in my craw about especially about console gaming. Remember the days where you just turned the thing on and played?

I remember installing Everquest 2 on release night, something like 10 CD's, plus a 1 or 2 GB patch which at the time took forever to download.

I need to play this, I bought it way back when it first released and got sidetracked. I remember getting "Hackers" vibes for the storyline and was supp. to be good tbh. I played through the first one and thought they were onto something even if the driving was terrible.

Finished TLoU2.

Fantastic game! 9/10

I don't get all the user review bombing. Totally uncalled for.
the review bombing goes both ways. You can like the gameplay, but comparing stories the 1st was a masterpiece and "in my opinion" the 2nd was absolute trash. Some nitpicking about gameplay was that it was more of the same, in this series I'm fine with that. But visuals, sound, smooth gameplay only go so far in a story oriented game. I'm glad you liked it, it just sucks for us that don't.

edit: I'm perfectly fine if TLOU1 never had a sequel and I've already imagined that TLOU2 never came out lol

Ok, I'm going to play some catch up.

Price increases: While I'm not actively rooting for game prices to increase, I'm ok with it as long as the content is there. I understand games are insanely more complex to create these days and take more man hours and production, so I do get that there is probably more overhead for these developers. If the game is worth it, with great content, you will not hear me gripe. My issue is with some games that charge you full price and then turn around and shove micro-transactions in your face the whole time. The Call of Duty franchise was the worst for awhile. They've got better but I know the model for that cash cow is still there. If the game is free, by all means, I understand the micro-transactions. I'm still a sucker for gaming consoles though as they are just easy and convenient for me. These days I have to know I will love a game for me to buy right away. Otherwise, I do wait and generally prices do seem to fall fairly quickly.

Digital Games: I was so against digital games at first. I felt I needed a copy of a game in my hand to feel satisfied and like I got my money's worth. These days, I prefer it. For starters, you don't have to go anywhere to buy a game (anybody remember waiting in lines at midnight for a game release?) I've never felt price increases are justified. More games are being sold digitally, so technically they should've come down in price as is and they haven't. And I don't care how business models work when games profit tens or hundreds of millions, they can afford not to jack the price up on the ones feeding them. Increasing the price is nothing more than a cash grab and/or predatory practice, just like 99% of the microtransactions that exist.

Most of my games are digital, but all my movies are on bluray/4k uhd. I'm not a fan of "renting lower quality" movies, but for games it's very convenient, especially when you have plenty. The problem with digital only is what happens when a company calls it quits down the road and you still want to keep all your old games? As also previously stated, digital games should be cheaper than the physical counterpart. You cut out the middle man, you cut out manufacturing costs, and then there's the legality of "do I own the game". For multiplayer users, lets say you get banned from Sony or Microsoft, you lose access to your library (I'm not defending whatever the issue was, but losing your purchases is not right). Digital does allow gamesharing, so it's especially useful to have multiple consoles in the same house and only have to purchase the game once, but there needs to be less risks involved in owning digital. A marketplace to trade games built into the system would be nice, either get credit on the store for putting your game back on the market so others can buy or allow straight up trades/donations. But again not having this feature benefits the publishers and another reason why games don't need increased prices, they get all the benefits of a sale.

As for those who don't play on console, for me it's all about exclusives and controllers. Sure M&K has more functions and is more precise, but I don't want to play with that, and is also a reason why I don't play mobile games. I can't ever imagine myself missing out on playstation and some nintendo games. I've returned to nintendo over the last several years after leaving them behind during the n64 days, those originals on nes/snes were the best.

Price is just speculation at this point. I'm fine with $500. Ps4 was $400. Ps3 was $600 for the 60gb model. I forget what ps1 and ps2 were, think they were both $300

I don't recall about how much PS2's were on release which is sad especially being that I camped out in front of a Best Buy for 12 hours and was 13th in line to get one.:laugh:
