After this Mess of contract negotiation, will a team be willing to pay Dak?

We aren't replacing Peyton Manning.

Nothing to worry about.
Right . No worries.

How many years with this core talent will we waste rebuilding with another QB. All so we can brag how we saved 3 or 4 million a year.

We’ve picked an awkwardly position to get cheap. Brilliant

Dak has to get into playoffs this year or his only payday will be this year.
That's what I've been saying. He is betting too heavily on his TEAM, not necessarily himself.

If he cant get at least one playoff win under his belt this year, and even then means another brutal division round choke job...he isnt getting what he could have today. And if he does, itll be in like Cleveland or Jacksonville. Have fun.

I have to agree. The Cowboys finally get tough the one time they shouldn't.

Zeke gets rewarded for threatening to hold out and Dak gets penalized for letting the team know he will show up. Sad.
And it’s not just Zeke. It’s Cooper, Lawrence, Smith, Lee, etc.

And this is where we say it’s enough. Unbelievable and why the local media and press is bashing our ownership.

They need to start bashing Dak as well. Both sides look like morons.

For those who say we can still sign him next year they say at what price then. It will be millions a year if not tens of millions more over years and why today was last chance to sign him and save face at a more reasonable deal since we didn’t work an extension out last year.

This will cost the Cowboys millions financially if we sign him next year or set the team back without a franchise QB and why we are being bashed for poor Mgmt.

Bashing him for what. Asking for too much which is very common for pro athletes. It’s up to Mgmt to create a more attractive deal . Making him an offer he can’t refuse.

They are basing their bashing on us simply not being able to get a deal done because we never moved off our initial offer countering Daks demands.

I think Prescott's main issue wasn't that he was a 4th round pick but that he seemingly hid behind his agent.

It's an old story that Romo negotiated a contract with Jerry first hand. Jerry really respected the confidence and agreed terms. Didn't Lawrence end up picking up the phone to agree a deal with Jerry/Stephen last year?

I think had Dak simply negotiated directly with Jerry at some point that they would have thrashed out a deal where both would have moved a bit. E.g. a 5 year deal and a bit more guaranteed money at around $36 million a year.

I also think that Prescott genuinely wanted to stay a Cowboy long term but he positioned himself into a corner and stayed there rather than coming out of his agent's shadow.

I do not rate him as a quarterback and in my view, longer term it is excellent news for the team to not be saddled with a huge contract for an average yet exceptionally durable player. However, looking at it objectively it's quite sad and I think he will look back in a few years and regret how he went about it.

Also, a lot of what I post is tongue in cheek. I know there will be people very disappointed at the news given a player they have really taken to is unlikely to be playing for the team beyond this season. I respect that but I genuinely think it will work out better for the Dallas Cowboys and Dak will get his elsewhere longer term.

What do we have now without Dak as our QB next year? Is the Dak era over?

What now. Are we even a playoff contender in 2021?

Its pretty obvious that Dak cares about one thing and that's maxing out his earnings. 35 million for 5 years is a great offer and he should have taken it. And the Cowboys should have caved and given him a 4 year deal. Guys like Mahomes, Brees, Brady are making concessions and he cant? Looks bad.

All this means is that it might be over in 2 years. They tag him next year too unless they trade him. After that, it just gets too expensive.

I don't see him being tagged next year as well. I think he has burnt his bridges with the front office. It's a big slap in the face for Jerry. He won't be crawling back next year to offer him a load more money unless we reach a Superbowl which is highly unlikely.

I can see Prescott being traded to the Jags for their pass rusher and a draft pick.

My bet is it’s over next year. If not it’s going to cost us dearly.

We should have extended him last year. We rolled the dice and lost. Poorly managed.

What amazes me about this we are so consumed about what Dak will do but where does this leave the Cowboys in 2021?

We’ve put together a team that’s basically ready to contend now, brought in a legit HC and now after this year have basically pulled the rug right out from under it by not securing our franchise QB.

Where do we go from here? In the draft. How long will that take ? What if we whiff.

How many years does this set us back wasting all of the talent we’ve invested in all because we got tough on negotiations with our franchise QB. Unbelievable this is where we draw our line in the sand in contract negotiations.

1000%........some are forgetting or overlooking our window is next 2-3 years max with a lot of the so-called elite talent here.

What concessions did Zeke, Cooper and Lawrence make ? This is a Cowboys problem and what our beat writers are bashing. Why weren’t we as flexible with Dak?

More importantly , what now without Dak?

I think Jerry has made the calculation that 31 + 37 divided by 2 is 34 million per year. So he is willing to pay the 37 million next year if he has to.

But then we get into possibly losing him in the 3rd year because no way can you pay the 3rd tag year price. So a smart GM if he cant get Dak signed in the offseason looks to trade him. Simply cant let Dak walk without getting back high picks.

If you are going to turn this into another "jerry is the ONLY big problem in Dallas" conversations then I'm not interested.

Nobody likes Jerry Jones in Dallas and EVERYONE knows that he is the #1 problem here in Dallas.

But there are many defending him getting tough on these negotiations. When he hadn’t been tough on others.

And standing pat is one issue if your not totally sold on a guy. But the bigger issue is where does this leave the Cowboys now moving forward.

And why I’m following the que of local beat writers I’ve followed for decades. Which is bashing those responsible for these decisions which are directly accountable for Cowboys football . That’s what I am and will always be about.
