How so? He plays on the tag this season and gets the deal done next year. No big deal.
It is a big deal cause if we are intent on signing him he won’t be cheaper than today. Getting cheap today is going to cost us millions more next year. Doesn’t make sense unless you’re not sold on him. In which case that means he’s probably gone .

Just curious..but why is this the front offices fault and not daks fault? You don't think the rumored contract offer was a fair offer?
After seeing what Mahomes got, they could have threw him a bone. Either more money or give him the contract length that he wanted. Prices only going to go up.

Do you know the details of the contract? How do you know whether or not the Cowboys made a fair offer and Dak was holding out for something more?

And I am far from a Jerry apologist, but Dak and his camp could easily be the ones in the wrong here.
I blame both sides TBH. Never should have gotten to the wire. Even if you take it all the way to July 10th, they should have been working as hard as possible to get a deal done. Both side had alot to lose.

If Dak gets Bridgewater'd, he gets 31 million instead 100+. If Watson signs, Daks camp is going to go off of that contract instead of Wentz's. A Watson extension and a Pro Bowl season from Dak could have him asking for 40M AAV next February

Both sides failed IMO

When I found out Dak wanted more than Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers he lost me.

That's not Jerry's fault.

Dak can make enough money OFF the field that he should have taken what the Cowboys offered.
Why should the onus be on him to make up the difference off the field?

As was reported he was offerred 33-35m with 110m in guarantees. Basically without having done anything significant in his career he was being offered top 3 money and it may have been top 2 money at his position, but it's the Cowboys who are the bad guys here? I know you like Dak, alot more than i do that's no secret, but he was offerred a fair contract he chose not to sign it
How on earth is a contract offered with a smaller % of gtd money than what Tannehill got fair?

It’s always up to the team to make an offer the player can’t resist. Because that’s what will happen in FA.

The Cowboys failed with Dak. Assuming of course they were making every effort to sign him?

....@Rockport, Dak was offered at least 3 lucrative offers, that I can recall. For whatever reason he believes his set of skills are on par with Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers..etc, wanting that kind of money. Is beyond me..
All starting QB offers are lucrative, but they may or may not be fair within the market.

Maybe Dak’s offers were fair. Maybe not. We don’t really know. Media reports are all over the place. Most reports are that both sides were unwilling to bend, so it’s likely both sides were to blame.

but to say he thinks of himself as on par with Brady, Mahomes and Rodgers is unfounded. He didn’t ask for the biggest contract in the history of professional sports. That’s what Mahomes got. As for Rodgers, his contract is 2 years old, so not apples to apples. The market for QBs has risen since then. That’s why Wentz is getting more than Rodgers.

The QB position is important , not Dak . We saw what Dak can do , 1-6 vs good teams . Let’s move on from this guy .
What was the record of Zeke, Cooper, Gallup, the O-Line and the defense against good teams?

It’s not. He also is responsible for the most jerseys sold in which he receives nothing.

Sponsorships have never been figured in as part of the teams salary or negotiating tactics. It’s merely talking points from fans taking the team stance over the players.

All along I've said Dak's value in Dallas is significantly higher than his value to the rest of the league. He's asking for more than he is worth but I can't blame him or his agent for trying to monetize the fact that he THE QB of THE Dallas Cowboys.

I blame Stephen and Jerry for 2 major screw-up's in this whole situation:
1) Not taking advantage of Dak's 4 years of cheap QB play. They should have moved on from Garrett earlier and they should have spent every available cap $ to improve the defense.
2) Letting it get to this point where Dak has most of the leverage.

Granted it's a team sport and the record doesn't solely fall on Dak however he was offered elite money for hardly any significant progress over the last four years. Cowboys made more than a generous offer imo. Putting up great stats in an offense oozing talent is not always a deciding factor.

He's above average and not worth what they offered him. He can not put the team on his back like Wilson, mahomes, Rodgers and etc can. Not even close.

both sides are at fault here,Jerry should have just given Dak a 4 year deal and got it over with.

Who was the poster that said "his guy in the organization told him that they really didnt like Dak that much"? Was it egn22 something like that? Anyway I believe that is the case. I think that Eagle game end of season and some of the other winnable that they lost didnt help his cause. I think the FO made an offer that Dak would not accept but the fans would think they did all they could. I think Dalton signing here paved the way for this. I also McCarthy doesnt really love Dak, but maybe just likes him. I dont have a problem with what happened. Dak is gonna be here with a new HC and all kinds of weapons in a prove it year. They can always keep him down the road if they want. No harm, no foul.

Great point. We didn’t take advantage of our Rookies sensations while on their Rookie contracts.

And we should have extended Dak last year if we were intent on resigning him. Waiting until this year cost us millions and will cost millions more next year.
