Then why didn't he sign the 33 mil/year extension that was offered last year? Your thoughts are muddled w/ incorrect data.

Point me to an Dallas or Dak official statement on what was proposed. You don't know what was offered...ever. The only one with wrong data is you.

So tired of hearing this argument... He was à 4th rounder playing out his 4th rd rookie contract.
He is not getting backpay no matter how well he played. He is only gonna get what the cowboys and Dak feel his future is worth.

He didn't sign the extension, so he plays under his tag. Going by history, this would appear to be his last year or two as a cowboy.

And I am even MORE tired of hearing how it's unfair that Dallas needs the extra year for cap purposes and Dak won't budge. Dak being unpaid was a Dak problem. Dallas needing more years for cap purposes is a Dallas front office problem.

We haven't a clue what Dak is seeking but I am almost certain Dak is not seeking backpay. He is likely seeking the same contract as Wentz or Goff. 4 years. It is the Cowboys, reportedly, that is being unreasonable and behaving entirely outside the norm demanding 5 years.

He had an offer for at least 30 million last year, plus a signing bonus. I don't feel sorry for him at all.

He just wanted more, he could have banked 60 million between last and this year, now he has a chance of getting 30 million this year, if we have a season.

Imho he didn't choose wisely, now he has to wait.

You just exposed yourself as not understanding how NFL contracts work: Dak Prescott was locked into a 4 year contract at $4 million...period. end of discussion. You don't just rip up contracts in the NFL. No matter what...Dak was getting what he was getting for 2019.

The problem is the QBs we all like to compare him to got signed with rookie years left on their contracts. Making their future cap hits manageable. Paying Dak the same on a new contract over 4 years makes it a much worse deal for the Cowboys. Paying him more if the team has success would eliminate all future success because the cap hits would be through the roof.

Man, I don't know how people don't understand this. The FO ****ed up by not seriously negotiating after the 3rd year. Could put out a 4 year extension and used the original year to spread for 5. Every freaking other team - Philly, LAR, KC - with an expiring K did so with the extra year(s). Watch what happens with the Texans and Ravens.

And the Jones' better hope the League and the NFLPA comes to an agreement on the cap next year. I don't believe there's football this year, and the cap number is gonna drop, with the parties all involved will lose. Except those tagged - those contracts will go up 20% no matter what.

His agent messed up. Dak was on the phone doing his agents job. Got a offer that was great. 50 million up front. 70 in the first 2 years. Then 35 a year. 110 guaranteed. After 3 years they will be back to the table.

Well I am actually glad the FO stuck to their guns and didn't cave. About time.
Time to move on with or without him, don't matter.

In one half, Matt Stafford makes more money than Dak Prescott did in an entire season. In 3 games, Matt Stafford made as much money as Dak did his first 4 years in the NFL.

Dak was the 77th highest paid QB in the NFL, on average, over the course of his first 4 seasons.

So yes, yes, Dak does want to be fairly compensated...including not signing beyond the standard 4 year contract.

New contracts under the cap don't care about previous years

If he gets hurt next season you think the Cowboys would let him walk? If he has a great season and gets hurt mid-way what happens?
I'm thinking if he gets a bad injury this season (assuming there is one) it'll probably drop his value, at least. If he finishes the season, regardless of being injured early, and plays well, it may not affect his pocket. But basically, I think the only way this works in his favor is if he lights it up this season, and shows that he can lead the team to a deep playoff run.

I think Dak and his agent were expecting Jerry and Stephen to cave. Once they realized that they weren't going to, they came in at the "last-minute" just for PR damage control. Now Dak and his agent can say they can say that they tried.

I think they, like many of us, still weren't sure what they really have in Dak. Is he a great QB waiting to break out? Is he a guy who looks like he has potential to be great, but will never take the final steps? Is he a bus driver?

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say they thought the FO would cave, but when they didn't, Dak and co. might have given in, but too late.
