Since there’ll be no preseason games, all evaluation will come from the practice field.

My take is, for an UDFA to make it onto a roster, he’ll have to meet three basic criteria:
• plays a position where depth is currently an issue
• shows aptitude for the system he’ll be asked to play in
• busts his butt on every practice rep and in every drill

Man I keep forgetting about Carter in the RDE conversation.

He deserves to be mentioned along with Anae and Jelks....

Bernard may actually be starting before the season is over, given the fragility of the LBs in Dallas.

Also think Aaron Parker can open some eyes in a WR4 type role also....

Hoping he can return punts, not Lamb.

RB Darius Anderson
FB Sewo Oloniula
DE Ron'Dell Carter

1 maybe 2 of those 3....but i think if an udfa makes the 53...it's from that tiny group.

I would say Carter, Bernard, and one of the RBs have the best chance. Carter simply because of all the interest in him after the draft, they may not want to risk losing him after giving him decent money and not getting the best look at him. Bernard and a RB because there seems to be a spot on the depth chart wide open for someone to take. I believe they are expanding the practice squad and tweaking the rules for players going to and from. I would expect the practice squad to be made up a few key veterans and the rest will be mostly the UDFAs they want to see more of.

Slam dunk? None.

The guy I know most about is Ben DiNucci's teammate, Ron’Dell Carter. He has great pro size and build and is always raising hell somewhere behind the line of scrimmage. He started since he was a sophomore and his numbers went up every year: 4/7.5/12 and 8/13/27, sacks and hella buncha TFL, respectively. Carter had six more career sacks for the Dukes than Charles Haley. Just sayin'.

Be interesting to know if the Cowboys came to Harrisonburg looking at Carter or Nooch.

I Say expand the practice squad this year. Maybe temporarily raise it 10 spots.
How do they not this year?

If a team gets hit with 12 positive cases during a week are they supposed suit up guys off the street?

Forfeit?

I'd think FOX etc will want their money back if games arent played. Big money.

Theres GOT to be a reserve for each team that at least knows the playbook. Makes sense from every point of view.

There will be an expanded practice squad and expanded capabilities to move players back and forth. Not likely to be much poaching as nobody has extra tape on these guys, so really there there is 0 need for an expanded roster as we'll have what looks to be 16 PS guys who can move back and forth more easily.

Only guy who we likely need to keep off waivers is Bernard as he had a 5th round grade on several boards.

I admit I don't know enough about this class to make a call. Just curious if posters that follows college football know enough to suggest a couple of players as a slam dunk make the team. Again, remember no OTAs, preseason games, and min training camp.

What a wonderful organization the NFLPA is. They do not care one bit about players coming in or getting a chance. Just another way to protect their own.

What would have 1-2 preseason games hurt in the grand scheme of the virus? Nothing at all

Allow 10 more for this season.

I think they have no other option than something like that. And it being the NFL, the practice squad is a more likely spot to add the extra players so teams can pay them very little but still have them practicing on the current playbook.

The roster limit of 80 is more of a challenge than the lack of pretend games. Not many UDFA's get to show their stuff against the top of another team's depth chart in preseason games.

Fans get excited with the undrafted free agents then you rarely hear from any of them afterwards.Probably why they didn't get drafted in the first place.

I would think that they would have to up the limit of PS with the virus and maybe have an exempt list that cannot be touched in case there is a team that is hit with a large case of positive tests. ii would also think you would have to put a Third QB on that list and keep him in quarantine. lol Its going to be interesting to see what they come up with. Five days till TC I guess we will see.

An UDFA will have plenty of chances to shine in an extended training and practice camp. Without the preseason games, that’s a lot more practice time due to lack of travel and the games.

If a guy flashes here and there, he will be stashed on the PS. He will have to really shine in special teams or clearly beat guys for the rotation to make the active roster.

What you will not see much of without preseason games, is teams signing guys off of another team’s practice squad.
