I was in the Meadlowlands last year for the MNF game (black cat game) and will agree with the Giants fans. Most of the fans I encountered are very working class people from New Jersey. One I met on the train into East Rutherford even bought me a beer and invited me to his lower level seats.

The Eagles though - that's real hate. I normally can endure plenty of trash talking, but those guys like to throw hands and I'm not getting locked up over a football game. You don't get the reputation as being the worst fans in sports without being the worst fans in sports.
It’s odd because I pretty much agree with you, the reputation is deserved but I have a couple stories that contradict that. I’ll try to keep it short...

I live in DFW but travelled to Philthy for a tattoo. On one of the trips there was a blizzard and we holed up at the usual bar we go to in Old City, it’s usually filled with locals but that’s all it was on this particular day because everything was closed and it happened to be one of the only bars open. My accent was quickly noticed, football came up, yadda yadda yadda...we ended up buy those heathens beers and they did for my wife and myself as well. This wasn’t just with on group but several over the course of the day and at another bar as well.

My old roommate is a huge Giants fan, we used to the CowboysGiants game go every year here in Dallas. There was always friendly trash talking but the first game if the year at the new stadium when the Giants beat the Cowboys with a last second FG was an embarrassing as a Cowboys fan. Literally before the game even started there were Cowboys fans being pretty aggressive towards him in the parking lot, then waiting in line to get a beer, then in our seats...after the Giants won I even had to step in and was about ready to throw down. I was disgusted but chalked it up to one bad experience.

The following year we had a very similar experience so that was the last time I went. I don’t mind the trash talking, I actually enjoy it but when it gets to people getting in someones face, throwing things, etc then I’ll lose my crap, even if it’s an opposing fan (unless they started it). I get your in enemy territory but people have a right to attend a football game without having to worry about being hit or just enjoy the game in general.

Anyways, hopefully Cowboys fans have cleaned it up over the past decade, I wouldn’t know though because I haven’t been back and have no plans to.

I almost never set foot in Houston (maybe a grand total of 3 times in twenty years)........how bad do they really hate the Cowboys? Does it compare anywhere near to Cowboys hate in Philadelphia, Washington DC or New York?

Safe, or have Dallas fans ever been in physical jeopardy in H-Town?

They used to be jealous of the Cowboys before they started getting their wins going. I think a lot of that has dwindled now.

Texans fans are a bunch of kittens compared to the Igglets. Philthy's phans are vile creatures, vulgar and truly hate filled.

I live NE of H-town about 90 miles (north of Beaumont 50miles) out in the sticks but travel to Houston periodically professionally and pleasure trips with Mrs Point-of-the-Star. I wear my Star proudly when I go. Never even had anyone say anything.

I might add that the Texans are pushed on us by the local media outlets and their merchandise outnumbers the 'Boys stuff 10:1 in stores. I used to work in Beaumont and I'd say Cowboy fans still outnumber Texan fans 2:1 there. Have to realize though that since I was a kid (1960's) we got Cowboy news in the print media, Cowboy radio carried locally (now the Houston team), and regular TV feed of the Cowboys. Not quite the same now as Texans dominate except for the NFC local feed. This trend started about 10 years ago.

One last thing before I close out ... the Texans suck !

I don't know where you guys have been but the Dallas Cowboys are the most hated team by Texans fans. The hate does come from having the "little brother" syndrome but it is real. My neighbor has an old ice cream truck the he uses for tailgating at Texans games, he's painted it red and blue but in the window it reads The Cowboys Suck.

I was once on my job in the early 90s and it was a Monday after a game we'd loss, a Texans fan was trash talking me about it then I reminded him that later that day his Texans loss also. This is what he said to me, "after the Cowboys loss I went to the bar and celebrated with drinks, I didn't even watch the Texans." My question to him was why he didn't watch his favorite team play his answer was this, "I'd rather see the Cowboys lose than my team win, when the Cowboys loss my Sunday was made."

At that moment I finally saw the depths of the hate for the Cowboys and for the city of Dallas that the Texans fans and Houston has.

I live in Houston (25yrs) and have been a Cowboys fan since 1970. The AM radio fans HATE the Cowboys. The radio announcers are pretty fair. I went to a pre-season game Cowboys vs Texans and took some razzing for wearing the best QB in NFL history Tony Romo's jersey. Drunken tailgaters wanted to fight, but my Texan buddies just pushed those guys away.

Funny thing is, that particular game there were so many fights that the Texan fans started, that they changed the tailgating rules that you can only show up a few hours before the game. No more getting there 6 hours before and partying all day. My friends completely blame Cowboy fans for this even though they saw first hand it was scum Texan fans instigating the confrontations. LOL

TLDR - Texan fans hate us, and they really hate us when we say we don't even care.

I’ll say this...IIRC it was about 7-8 years ago when the Cowboys played the Texans in Houston. My wife's company at the time had season tickets and had a set up in the designated tailgating area. There had never been any problems until the Cowboys fans came to town. There were ambulances running all over the place, fights, etc. After that game they started making restrictions to the tailgate area and upped security. I’m assuming it’s gone back to normal but I don’t know.

Whether it was the Houston fans or Cowboys fans I have no idea but it is ironic that they never had any problems with other fans teams until then.

*see post directly above this, glad there is some confirmation

I have no idea whatsoever about Houston. Never been there, and I’ll take the word of all you fellow Cowboy fans who have. All day. That said, I’d bet everything I own that any kind of Cowboy hate in Houston (or almost anywhere else) is minuscule when compared to the Cowboy hate in Philly. I’ve been there a lot, and it’s epic, cartoon level. It’s obsession and religion and drunken desperation in a blender.

Wasn't there an instance three years ago during Hurricane Harvey where everyone in Houston was buying things like coolers as emergency prep, but there was one Cowboys cooler that stayed on the shelf in a store no matter what because Texans fans refused to buy it?

I just posted this but c’mon, first of all the best QB in NFL history? I’m assuming that’s sarcasm but you never know with Romoholics.

How do you know it was all Houston fans starting fights? I only witnessed one scrap and it was absolutely not the Texans fans. Cowboys fans have been an unruly bunch the last few times I’ve been to their games.

Man there are tons of Cowboys fans here - that cooler would have sold in a snap!

Houston fans hate us but I’ve been to a couple games there and never felt my life or safety was in jeopardy like I did at Veterans or Candlestick.

Oh....one thing I forgot to mention about when I was in Philthy. I’ll be danged if my Uber driver to take me to the airport didn’t pull up in a car that was completely loaded with Cowboys logos. I’m talking seat covers, steering wheel covers, stuff dangling from mirror, floor mats, everything! I couldn’t believe it and told him he was brave. He said it wasn’t that bad and he’s never had any problems.

Speaking of Uber and Philthy, I’ve always found this comical and honorable. Seems like a good dude but man was he a menace for us. Imagine calling Uber and this dude shows up!

But jealousy can lead to hate.

In any case, this is a silly thread. Houston isn't an NFL war zone where a large number of people are going to beat the hell out of someone for being a Cowboy fan. Obviously there are always idiots in any city, but a Cowboy fan is unlikely to be bothered in Houston.
Yea, Texan favs are mostly just jealous and tired of playing second fiddle to the Cowboys in Texas. But they know until they start hanging banners they ain’t got jack. Lol

I live outside of Houston and I wear my Cowboys gear all the time. I never get any grief about it. There are actually a lot of Cowboy fans around here.

If you walk through downtown Houston with a Dallas Cowboy hat on you might just survive … barely ... without a scratch … or without anyone saying a word … or without even a glance your way - or …

Sure there are some people in Houston that aren't fond of the Cowboys, probably particularly older people who saw the Cowboys get so much love statewide and nationally back in the 1970's while the Oilers struggled, but it's not as if a Cowboy fan in Houston is akin to an American soldier in an Al-Quaeda encampment.

Unless maybe you are planning to run around Houston covered with Cowboy clothing and face paint and telling everyone face to face you think them, their team and their city suck …. you aren't planning to do that are you?
What’s funny is Cowboys fans really don’t even care about Texan fans. It’s like. Oh yea. That other team in Texas.

Well, I'm just speaking about MY experience going to many Texan games. I do not wear a Cowboy's jersey to their regular games, I consider that just bad juju. But when we do play them and I do wear the Romo/Barber/Staubach jersey, I can easily get into ten fights each time. And I'm talking about DRUNKS tailgating too much. I wear Cowboy's shirts all the time w/o a problem during regular activities. When in enemy territory, be polite and ignore...

People my age became NFL fans in an era where the Oilers were almost always pretty bad, and the Cowboys were always Super Bowl contenders, although admitted the Earl Cambell/Dan Pastorini/Bum Phillips years were pretty entertaining. But from the outset the team in Houston was always kind of an afterthought for a lot of people in Texas.

Even since the Texans have been in the NFL they have been mostly irrelevant except the last few years, and they don't even have the ability to harken back to the "good old days".

Of course those who call into a radio show are likely to be the more extreme few rather than the vast majority that don't care enough to make that call.
