Two ways to approach a limited amount of time to prepare. One is to have a heightened sense of urgency and commitment and the other is to fall behind early and accept that that limited time was the reason for failure.

These coaches and players have been around football all their lives and seen what creates success and failure.

It is a new HC and DC and new offense, not a retread of the old one, and the majority of these players wanted these changes. We'll see how they respond.

The O has been together and keeping the same OC so their path is a lot easier than the D with a new DC, new players, new system and the weak link in the chain.

Have you noticed how easy it has been for the players to let the media give the heat to the coaches? And it's not just this team but ones before it. They've got a HC and DC in need of reproving themselves and we'll see how they respond to a shorter window of preparedness.

As far as preseason games, I do not agree. They would be playing vanilla on both sides of the ball and only bubble players getting any playing time. Coaches have less time in camp, do you think they'd be risking their starters in any preseason games or saving them for the real thing? It's going to be sloppy but it always is with 4-5 preseason games so I don't see that as anything but a positive with more time to prepare. Every team gets to focus on that opening game. We might even see less sloppy play without the pretend games.
Except the coaches don't get to evaluate rooks and youngsters in game situations w/o preseason.

every team in the league will have no pre-season games...no real off-season...shortened training camp and no real chance for full evaluation of their players.
whatever advantage teams that return the same staff may have....has been leveled.
every team in the league is dealing with the same challenges.
this season will be weird, unpredictable and wide open.
hell...if anything....after 10yrs of knowing what we would do in this situation or that...having Big Mc gives us some unpredictability.
teams dont know what we'll do in this or that down and distance.

and our opponents dont have the time to do a deep dive on McCarthy in green bay because with no pre-season....training camp practices are all hands on deck to evaluate players.

Did they even have "mini camps" decades ago?

If they cant get ready to play seven weeks from now then there isnt much to discuss.

This offseason has been a little tougher for teams who changed coaches, but I'm still glad it happened. Like everything else in 2020 you just deal with it.

This season, if played, will provide. good insight as to what the Cowboys have in McCarthy and Staff.

This times infinity. AND how much actual full authority has been granted to said staff in order to make roster decisions.
It's my only reason to watch.
Stay Tuned...

I worry about the Cowboy's pass rush, will Lawrence rebound from his sack total last year, does Aldon Smith have anything left??
Without pressure the linebackers and defensive backs will be left out to dry.

Are those real game situations?

Any coach that would admit he needed preseason to evaluate any player would quickly be looking for work if I was GM. College doesn't need it and neither does the NFL, it was created as an additional profit stream.

How does a coach evaluate a rookie when he's playing other rookies and not the starters going all out as they would in a game, that's where they need the player, able to play as a starter if needed. They can control situations within their own team to evaluate players and it's still not foolproof. They get fooled all the time by preseason superstars and so do posters on this board.

Any team bringing in a new head coach and staff is going to be at a disadvantage. McCarthy and his staff is just now going to start meeting the players for the first time and here we are in late July. We’ve had no offseason and there won’t be any preseason games. That’s going to be challenging for every team but especially one that’s made a lot of changes. We’ve change coaches and schemes. It’s going to be a very challenging season which is why year one under McCarthy may not be what we’re hoping for. We’ll just have to see. McCarthy will be given a pass this year for sure. There’s a lot of built in excuses if things don’t go well.

I worry about the run D more than the pass rush. I hope those two wide butts they picked up in FA can anchor the middle better than what they've had.

They are keeping the offense the same just adding wrinkles and game planning.

Defense isn't going to change a ton and most likely will slowly change in the next 2 years

The offense performed so well against teams with a winning record why change anything!!
Now in band camp......

So the receivers not running the same routes over and over isn't going to help or knowing when to pass or when to run? What about going after a team's weakness or when something works staying with it?

Dallas can go with much of last season's offense.
How much they wanna use versus scrap is up to MM but he can lean heavily on that early.
Offensively, I think Dallas is at an advantage.
They will know what they are installing a lot better than any opponent knows what's coming.

Defensively, I think they will be behind the 8 ball.
They have a new system and middle of the road talent.
Heart of the defense are DLaw, Jaylon, LVE and all 3 have battled injuries at some point.
Secondary is more important than ever and it is Dallas' weakest spot.

Special teams wise you don't need much Live action nor overall rep time to get that down.
Also Dallas was like 30th best last year so that will improve in all likelihood by quite a lot.
I'd be shocked if they don't make top 15.
I think they'll use CeeDee on some returns and keep a couple specialists for Fassel.
If they wanna save cap space they could get a much cheaper punter for same or better results.

will that make
the cowboys weeks behind other teams getting use to new systems and coaches and put us behind
Due to the circumstances in 2020, we haven’t been able to see much of anything MM will bring to the table.

All of MM's installations have been done via learning sessions online. Hard to grasp what our Cowboys will look like.

It sucks but the process has to begin somewhere. I hated that word for so long, but it actually means something now and the Cowboys get a late start on it. 13 years to finally be rid of Garrett and a pandemic hits!!!! At least things are getting under way.

I totally disagree. I’m glad there’s no preseason games. Preseason is to evaluate players that should be evaluated in practice we always come out sloppy the first two games of the season. I think will come out strong because of it. It’s all about the scheme and not much is changing. It’s not like we have new players just new coaches You make it sound like these people never played football before

I know can we least play a game before we start seeing how bad we’re going to be or how good we’re going to be. There’s a professional football players it’s not like they’re going to be sloppy because of coaching. I think everyone will be sloppy because of no practice. It’ll be across the board pretty even

It's a crappy deal for all of us.

I want football but not at the expense of our players.

I will watch but it's going to be frustrating watching some teams win who should not be there but are there becuz of the conditions.

Having lady luck on ones side will win a SB it would seem.
I watched a little baseball today. Talk about boring. Cardboard fans Pumped in Noise.

I have to sympathize with our new staff being at a disadvantage of dealing with players they're unfamiliar with. I'm sure they're scrambling to catch up with what's what and who to trust by watching plenty of film. I'm planning on giving them a patient opportunity to get themselves familiarized with their talent and how best to use them.
