Jerry could very well have been owner of the Cowboys without Jimmy Johnson. Exactly how much money did Jimmy put up to buy the team? The team was in a financial death spiral when Jerry bought it for $ 140 million.

Jimmy Johnson was a known head coaching commodity in the college ranks but had no prior NFL head coaching history. So Jerry could have rolled with someone else as head coach with NFL experience. That stated the two meshed together so well in the early years that they went out and won some Super Bowls. Jimmy deserves more credit obviously because he operated in the trenches as well as providing input on players and staff.

Their relationship reminds me of how rock bands frequently disband. Friends, stratospheric egos, alpha males talented in their own right with something fundamental in common.

Lol! Say it all you want. Coaches have big egos. I left a job because of my ego. It was time to go. Jimmy and Bill had pride and left. Good for them. Proves my point. They're gone and Jerry is still there.
BTW....you're still here.
I don't remember quoting you or mentioning you Coach.

I guess you saw "apologist" and felt you were involved.

So many here deify this guy and I understand, but he had so many things go his way (you guys know he didn't want to draft Emmitt?) yet it's what he cooked in the kitchen with his ingredients that made it all count.

He was genuinely lucky here though. Glad he made it work. Many might not have.
I think you don't understand football with your statement. When did the genius Bill B draft Brady? Why didn't he get drafted in the first round by the Pats?
Teams have to get lucky with players sometimes. Jimmy built a culture of winning here. If they didn't draft Emmit, they would have gotten someone else.
Maybe this mean Aikman would throw more, and then all the number nerds would be able to justify him being better than Romo...
Jimmy brought an culture or not accepting losing, from goin 1-15 to SB champ in 4 years and turning over the whole roster. Yes he already had Michael Irvin also. Yes I know he drafted Steve Walsh also. Look at his 5 year body of work, look at the drafts he had, the draft day deals.
He deserves to be deifed to the nth degree by Cowboy fans. He should have stayed here 10 plus years. Who leaves after back to back titles? He was driven away by Jerry who said 500 coaches could take that team to a SB. Jerry found the worst football coach imaginable to coach this team.

That proves my point. Jerry let Jimmy trade Walker and went out and got Haley and Deion. But, no one wants to give the owner any credit
Sorry Jerry only gets credit for hiring Jimmy. That is the reason he is a HOF owner right now. He should have a statue of Jimmy in front of the 5 billion plus franchise.

Watching "A Football Life" with Jimmy Johnson again - and he is talking to Bill Belichick on the his boat - and he says the one thing about drafting that I think is forgotten over and over again - "Hit me in the head with a hammer the next time I take a dumb guy". And Belichick said "you taught me that well"! Truer words have never been spoken. Belickick also said "you can't fix that". Johnson said you can't reason with dumb.......

While I think Dallas has drafted extremely well for about the last decade, there are still a couple of examples of this simple drafting mistake that might fit what Jimmy was talking about.

Anyone care to give examples of draft picks that fit that category above? In some cases the dumb and unreasonable probably only shows up after they are drafted (say the right thing in original interview, have support of a few coaches in College, or fool a few .....)....

Jimmy's psychological training and ability to treat and motivate unique players differently were examples of his amazing coaching.
Jerry Dumbo GM Jones is the best example of dumb you can not fix which is the reason Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells made early exists as HC, and Dan Reeves never committed to a consultant position.

" I don’t want my players to take losing lightly. I want them to be sick to their stomachs, because the more miserable they are, the more it will motivate them.”

Maybe, but you're still rooting for his team..... who's the idiot?

who said anything about him being an idiot. And yes I still root for the Cowboys. I can do that while feeling that he’s not a great owner. What an unsophisticated response.

No one has ever accused me if being sophisticated! Lol.... I'm a bit rough around the edges. I'm a retired football coach and Texas rancher, sophistication is not a requirement.

People will just minimize the actions of any current players that fit that category as long as their good and wear a Cowboys uniform.
It's kind of how being a "fan" works. Unless you are some know-it-all expert "I'm-so-objective" pretentious twit.

Unless it's some evil thing. Greg Hardy did not receive an incredibly warm welcome. But what are you gonna do about it anyway? Argue about it on the internet? Well that's a productive results-driven activity. o_O
