No matter what, I’m a big fan of this forum and the great fans who post here. So this isn’t a huge deal for me but I am a bit mystified...A few weeks ago I proposed we add a Dak Prescott forum to house the seemingly endless number of Dak threads, similar to the one created for Tony Romo on the old Cowboys team site forum. There were so many Romo threads, it was just overwhelming, and fans were getting vicious to each other. So a Romo sub-forum was created.

One of the most common responses to that proposal I made was “It won’t be needed. It will all be over after the July 15 deadline”. Well that deadline has passed nearly two weeks ago and as I write this, there are are at least 16 Dak threads on the front page this forum this evening.

But it’s not just the Dak threads. Even threads that aren’t intended to be about Dak seem to often veer off into the dreaded “us vs them” camps that have started dividing us as fans. It’s ok to love or hate Dak. This is an opinion forum and a variety of opinions are what makes this place fun. But the vitriol for fellow Cowboys fans I’ve seen lately is just crazy. We’re Cowboys fans for god’s sake, not e-girls fans.

I’m hoping we all choose one of these two options to make this place better as we near the season to help us avoid the cut throat attitudes we have been getting so often:
  1. We stop waging war on each other based on a fan’s opinion about Dak. It’s ok to love him, hate him and everything in between. But the constant drum beat to ostracize each other based on that opinion is getting over the top. Can we save the venom for Filly fans? Or Daniel Snyder? Instead of each other?

  2. If not, let’s create a Dak Prescott forum to keep the front page from becoming all we talk about.
I believe the first option is best. Can’t we ratchet back the slam fest a little bit based on whether or not someone agrees with your opinion about Dak? Can we just agree to disagree without the vitriol? If not, I say it’s time for the Dak sub-forum.

Ahhh, screw you!

Just kidding. We can be friends.

There's no solution, Dak is just current in a long line of players where the discourse has been exactly the same. Been happening on this board every single one of the 15 years I've been on it lol.

"My name is Frog and I'm a Cowboyholic" just started posting but have been reading this forum for years, I too don't understand getting actually angry about someones views...sure disagree, prove your point, and dare i say it concede your point if the opposing side is making a good point. When your eyes see enough red to call a person you don't even know a name over their views, take a breather, shut the laptop lid, and remember
it could be worse you could be stuck with Eagles green and Carson Wince:)

Drop out of the 12 step program. It doesn't work with Cowboy fans.

I agree with the Dak forum. Keep all that hubbub in in its own chamber so we can have peace and quiet elsewhere.

Dak is the QB of this team. You don't want fans to discuss him? You just want to cover your hears and pretend he doesn't exist? You know, you don't have to click on a thread that has Dak in it.

I'm being attacked more and more frequently in a profane manner due to simple difference of opinion. Guess that's how we roll here. It appears as if this site is going the way of places like the Philthy forum, where fans simply attack each other ad nauseum.

Arguing is fine

But this has long since devolved from arguing to a name calling, insulting, and out right hateful and spiteful comments that spill out into other threads for no other reason then to further some nonsense belief that only one viewpoint is right.

If the posters aren't willing to admit that someone else can have a differing opinion and still be a cowboys fan then it's not an argument anymore.
That's what I'm seeing.

i think the CZ-Mods have been already dealing with " out of bounds " arguments and personal insults as they come.
BTW, the lack of moderation addressing is what flat out Demoralized and Destroyed a certain past popular Cowboys forum board.
It was a massive problem that became crisis over there, but that has not been allowed to become a virus infection over here.
i certainly tip my hats off to the Mods and Admin for that kind of very necessary effort and mentality.

As far as the ever incoming Dak threads that can be overwhelming, i can't say Dak situation is not a talk of the NFL world and why
can we expect curious fans that have in them to want to bring discussion of dak.

But you're right on target with how i think the enormous numbers of Dak threads that's overrunning the Fan Zone forum board should be handled.

Same as the Covid 19 discussion forum board was constructed to deal with the enormous number of Covid19 discussion threads, i think
it would be a great deal to do the same with the Dak threads. Have a separate forum board made to handle the heavy numbers of Dak threads,

Controversy drives traffic . And traffic drives revenue.

I’ve been in several of these Dak threads and it hasn’t even came close to the violations and vitriol we had on the old forum. The Zone police are on it. This is simply are more modified place overall . Sometimes even too much. But better than not enough.

It’s the off season. It’s the one hot topic we’ve had besides the one that already has its own forum.

Don’t worry Bob once the season begins if it can there will be more to discuss. As I scroll down the front page there’s not much more of interest to discuss.

I know using ignore is an option. But I don’t like putting anyone on ignore. I like the variety of opinions. Some people I disagree with the most can throw down an opinion I like or find entertaining. I hate just ignoring a someone for any reason. Even when they occasionally antagonize. My point here is just to encourage us to to stop making every thread an us vs them division.

Life is full of trade offs. We already ignore 99.9999999999% of what is on the web. You can ignore a little more here and avoid the posts that displease you, or or you can keep seeing them.

Do you find that asking those hostile on the web to not be hostile works? I have not. They seem more encouraged if they see they're getting some kind of rise out of you. What works for some but not all is seeing themselves ignored. You get listened to at the grown up table by behaving like one.

What's funny is that anyone thought this would die down after the deadline passed. It was not dying down regardless of what happened.

This is providing a much needed public service for keeping couples together because if these Dakoids spent this much time talking about him to their girlfriends or wives, or worse, both, they'd kick them out.

This isn't nearly as much fun as the Romorooter Wars. Romo played golf, dated celebrities, took trips to Mexico, got a fat butt and wore his cap backwards, he fed the fire. Prescott is just boring, he's not giving us anything, y'all are having to make it up as you go.

I do often think what this place would be like if it were around in the time of Meredith, Morton-Staubach platooning and Danny White. Oh, we missed out on some golden times there ya bunch of got your butt stuck in a rut Dakoids.

I enjoy an *artful* pissy war. I'm old school usenet that way. I realize not everyone shares that taste.

People have different preferences in life and on the web. I prefer less complaining and less controlling. Take the actions *you* can take to satisfy *your* preferences.

Internet forums were just *better* at enabling that decades ago, providing easy filtering on subjects and keywords. Not interested in a Dak thread? Fine, filter any thread with Dak in the subject line. Easy peasy.

Filtering was part of the expectation of how you used a forum, and that included people. Don't like someone's tone or topics? Filter them. Unfortunately, filtering by users is all the control we *might* even have left, *but we do have it*.

Cowboys fans are super spoiled when it comes to QBs. Most fans here have a very short leash of patience.

I loved Dandy Don Meredith’s cool hand when I was a kid. My first Cowboys QB hero. But Cowboys fans soured on him after some big playoff losses and almost literally ran him off. I always believed if Meredith could have stayed, we would have won SB V.

And I remember the Morton-Staubach days when even Tom Landry couldn’t decide who his starter would be until that disaster of shuttling plays with QBs made him choose Roger. I can’t imagine what this pace would have been like in those days. Landry eventually wised up and Roger became the gold standard for a Cowboys QB.

And I remember the Danny White- Gary Hogeboom controversy in the early 80s. Hogeboom had that rocket arm and gunslinger mentality. Danny White was better than fans gave him credit. He just looked cross eyed, lol! Even had me screaming for White to be replaced. Then we got what we wished for and Hogeboom didn’t turn into much. Then Steve Pueller stepped in and the slide to decline that led to Landry’s demise started.

We Cowboys fans have been spoiled with QBs. It’s pretty amazing how short the leash and the memory is for fans and QBs.

I didn’t say I didn’t want hear Dak discussed. I’m just encouraging less of the “us vs them” tone in those threads. Or not see a thread about something else turn into a Dak thread.

I embrace these hot topics. Without them this would be a pretty boring forum with a bunch of Homers cheering on the team. Lol

What’s really amusing is the Slobberers on the most part haven’t been seen from since the deadline passed.
