Just imagine Dak Prescott's price for Cowboys if he wins MVP (and he could)

Had Dak had the type of season Mahomes had last year and it led to a championship for the Cowboys he would have a new contract right now. His demands exceed what he’s accomplished.

Jimmy would have supported paying Dak because he placed great value on a QB. He proved that in 1989 when he took Troy Aikman with the number one overall pick and used a first round pick the following year on Steve Walsh in the supplemental draft. Jerry wants to sign Dak but not for the kind of money he’s looking for based on the type of season we had last year. Kansas City wasted no time re-signing Mahomes after their Super Bowl win because they know they have a great player. Dak has yet to prove he’s a “great” player. The numbers he had last season didn’t equate to team success. It’s made it more difficult to re-sign him.
Dak's not on the same Tier as Troy Aikman. I don't think Jimmy would've payed a Good Player like a Great Player. And all this talk about MVP, I feel the fan boys are over inflating again how good Dak is.

He’s certainly not on the same level at this point as Aikman but these days you have to pay good QBs like great QBs. Things have changed since Jimmy was a head coach.

As long as Brady, Mahomes, Jackson, Rodgers and Wilson are in the league I think he has zero chance. Dak would have to do something extraordinary to get the voters to vote for him and he doesn't have that kind of talent.

His first 3 games... on fire

Then he came down to earth. Coincidence that the competition got tougher?
Dak’s stats weren’t actually that that big in 2 of those first 3 games because the team ran the ball heavily in the 2nd half after building a big lead. But sure, competition level plays a part.. I don’t think that was all of it though. He put up big stats against Minnesota and Buffalo for example, but it didn’t seem as much of a part of a consistent and coordinated game plan.

Dak struggled against playoff caliber teams and did not lead the offense well against good teams when we needed wins.

NO, NE, @Phi were just brutal. @Chi and Buff were sloppy and the offense simply was unable to function effectively the majority of the game. Plagued by slow starts and stubbornness (not all of that is on Dak obviously)— the league’s “top ranked offense” failed to deliver when we needed it to most.

Some will say Dak was hurt. Fine. If he was hurt that badly— and his performance vs NE and Phi were due to the shoulder— then he should have done what was best for the team and sat out. He certainly is tough, but he was definitely bad in those games.

Bottom line: you want to be paid as the best, you better deliver the goods against the best competition. Dak did not do that nearly enough last year IMO

While that can be said for any qb . It’s more about jerry pinned himself in the corner with the cap space. The DLaw,zeke and other contract made it more difficult

He has said there’s only so much pie as he said .as fans we can all see Dak wants more than he’s worth but that’s not much beyond the going rate for tier 2 qb.
And if you think that the current situation in the world (covid) and uncertainty of how it plays out didn’t play a role your fooling yourself.

I didn’t say his season was consistent, and in fact was saying it was not. What I said was there was a circumstance that may have played a part in the failure to be as consistent as needed.

I hear you. There are multiple variables (always)— but if he wants the credit (and $$$!) when he puts up numbers against poor competition— he needs to accept the blame for when he fails to deliver when the team needed more from him.

Cowboys confident they ultimately can sign Dak Prescott long term

After not coming to terms with the Cowboys on a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline, Dak Prescott told Jori Epstein of USA Today: “I’m a Cowboy and couldn’t be happier.”

He surely would have been happier with a long-term deal. But neither side seems to be harboring animosity.

As a " not so sure about Dak " guy, I would love to see this happen. None of my issues with Dak are anywhere near personal. I just want what I believe is best for the team.

If he leads this team deep into the playoffs he deserves the big contract imho.

I think that’s a bit of a stretch, but it does make paying him more palatable. If he wins a super bowl are you goi g to give Dak half the cap? Probably not.

It's been 25 years since the Cowboys have been to the NFC Championship game. I don't give a **** if they give Dak Prescott the organization if he wins a Superbowl. I don't care about anything else when it comes to the Cowboys other then winning another ring. It is the ONLY reason I root for them. I'm not a Dak supporter at all. I don't think he is all that great. Saying that, if the dude wins a Superbowl and gets the MVP of the league. I don't give a damn how much they pay him.

With the OL, WR's and RB's, he should win the MVP.

this offensive line is a wait and see work in progress. We honestly do not know if it is a strength or a question mark yet. Not sure how we will even know without a real training camp and preseason either.

Martin has gotten dinged a bunch the last few years but never comes off the field, Collins and smith are always injury risks to me. Center and left guard are open positions.

This team wants to play like the 07 and 83 teams it appears and throw it all over the building, to do that you need excellent quarterback play and excellent pass protetction. Wait and see in my opinion on both of these things.

"i'm a cowboy and couldn't be happier". from dak's lips to god's ears. now we can accuse him of being foolish like the front office when it said they like dak and see him as the future. dak''s given himself away. poor bargaining on his part. feel free to pile on the criticism.:)

Cowboys Fans would still be wondering why we didn't sign Dak last season for a cheaper deal.....kinda like every season

There's that segment of Cowboys fandom that believes the Cowboys can always just name their price in contract negotiations or name their pieces in a trade. It's one of the most annoying things in regards to Cowboys player acquisition and this board.
