It is very simple, Dak had 4 years , and did a mediocre job results wise for the most valuable franchise in the world with elite. OL /RB/WR . 1-2 in the playoffs and 1-6 against Playoff teams last year is terrible for a team like the cowboys . The stats look good , but let us be realistic , the NFL offenses are all producing good stats as the system supports the offense and protects the QB . Excuses abound about the reason Dak under performed: Garrett , the defense etc etc . And while these may have been factors, nevertheless, Dak has not ascended and has not taken the team to the next level . 2020 is crucial as he has to prove it , now that his salary is an absolute burden on a team that has more pressing needs .

Simple plan:

1)2020 ; Dak starts , If he gets the team to the SB or CCG , then by all means pay him 35-37 mil a year . if no Super Bowl or CCG , or if he plays mediocre , then :

a)do not offer an exclusive tag , only non exclusive and if he clears.
b) look to trade him if there are takers.
c) if not. let him walk , save the cap to improve the team , especially the D.

2)2021 ; Start Dalton

a) try our DeNucci as well.

b) look into trades for seasoned QBs: some that may be available include : Watson, Rivers, Newton, Mayfield etc

When there is a will , there is a way .

River sand Newton may be available, Watson is only a very slight maybe because his GM is worse than ours but I have a feeling he will be signed to Houston.... yes lets go get Mayfield he has torn the world up with no talent at all around him.......

Gonna try to say this again.

QBs pay has nothing to do with what they deserve.

Ita about alternatives for each side, and what market value is when it's time to sign them to a second contract.

Too many of you seem hung up on that he shouldnt be the second highest paid QB because he isnt the second best.

One has zero to do with the other, and will correct itself in a short amount of time.

I have read the posts. I believe them to be unreasonable. But that's me. I am still in a show me state. But I am patient and believe good things are ahead for Dak. But this is not about me.

This is about..........

iu

So tell me how you would handle this. How will you jettison Dak? How will you replace him? How about the fact this team has been built and waiting on the perfect drafted guy will take several seasons? How will you reconcile that?

Truthfully not interested in your assessment of Dak. We can assume here if you actually respond to this you want him gone and you have your reasons

Tell me your plan. Vegas might not take action on anyone really having a plan. I think this is merely grousing.

But you are the GM with the team in its current situation.

How and where do you find the QB you think is a winner and how will you fit that guy into the cap.

Step up to the microphone. Let's hear it.
I like too, but if things go as they are going we won’t have to jettison him. He will simply be gone.

Dalton has shown he can successful with talent around him. We have that. 3 very solid WR, a top 5 RB, a solid OL, and presumably we will now have a scheme that produces advantages and gets the ball out of the QB hands quickly. I would think a lot of QBs can be successful under those conditions.

If Nick Foles can win a super bowl then so can Andy Dalton. I’d like to see us spend some money on quality depth rather than taking the 1 player away approach with high risk high reward prospects. I don’t trust Jones to find a new QB, but perhaps McCarthy can. That would be my plan, and I suspect the actual plan given that Dak wouldn’t sign a 5 year deal so there is no reason to sign a 4 year deal next year.

It's really going to blow their minds when Jacoby Brissett is a top 5 paid qb....this could happen next year....

Dak doesn't stink. He's just not worthy of a huge percentage of the cap. He's average to slightly above in this league. Pay him like he can carry a team, and watch your championship hopes go up in flames.
Very, very good point.

However. Let's say we decide we dont want to pay him because the line has been drawn at 35M instead of 37M, so he walks for nothing....after this season for argument sake.

Are you ready to go into full rebuild mode? The rest of this roster is ready to win with a couple of defensive additions. One more off season worth.

You want to head in the complete other direction because of principal? He is the 9th best so he should have only the 9th highest salary!

With this team at this time it's not the right move. They have to reach a deal w him. Starting over is stupid and trying to plug in next years Phillip Rivers is ridiculous.

Wrong. A company pays an employee what the company thinks they deserve...or "value". One employee is not always as valuable as another. One employee for one company is not always as valuable as the same position with a different company.

If the company doesn't want to pay you the value they get in return....you'll not be paid. Some companies do have the forward thinking management that a replacement would be more expensive or damaging.

If you think you have greater value....ask for the raise. You could think of it as "contract negotiations". If you think it's not enough you can go somewhere else that you think is better. Grass isn't always greener in the other pasture.

It's a huge dynamic..and we're seeing that play out here. If the Cowboys subscribed to your theory...wouldn't dak have a big contract? If "qb pay has nothing to do with what they deserve"..then why isn't dak signed? Because of a one year disagreement? LOL.....not. unless you have SJ/JJ directly saying it then I'd still be very ...make it EXTREMELY dubious.

This is the entertainment industry. While there are tangibles which factor in as far as physical talent goes, the actual worth versus the inflated worth is academic.

You cannot compare this to anything in the real world. This is more like Hollywood than it is anything else. I mean pro men's athletics in the big four.

The problem the people here have is salary. The idea you can't pay a QB 19% of the cap and win is accurate up until a team does it. This is the Emmitt Paradox.

No one won a SB who had the rushing leader for the season. EVER.

Then Emmitt did it three times.

What was yesterday does not mean tomorrow it might be vastly different.

Having said that, we have seen bus drivers win it all. Perfect storm.

The money does not have a dang thing to do with the teams ability to win. And after 20 something years of not winning, were it to happen and they had to pay Dak a fortune....I don't give a damn. Even if they have to pony it up before he shows he can do it.

Because it ain't like Lombardi's are knocking on this teams door.

Its REALLY gonna blow their minds if its HERE lol.

This Dak alternative isnt coming cheap either.

Moot point. Jerry isn't letting him go, and anyone that's been paying any type of attention knows this.

The franchise tag is perfect for him. We have two years of tag control I say we use them. I personally see no reason to be worried at the moment. Lets see what he can do. Defense and special teams and depth are the real issues.

I think we might agree...just seeing in a different way. You are throwing out a TON of variables...all over the map/ Like I said there are a ton of dynamics here. We have to FOCUS..and boil it down into one or two sentences.
Like this:

Trailing is not garbage time you scrub. Garbage time is in the 4th with no chance of winning the game slinging it all over the field. This means typically down 3 or more scores and into the 4th quarter. Dak last season was 16th in total pass attempts in "garbage time".
Dak is so bad in the first half his garbage time starts in the third quarter. Between garbage time and the scrub teams he had nice stats, shame he didn’t show up when it mattered. Time for all your sad excuses.

I would seriously shelve the idea DiNucci will play well. He is not even in the conversation at this point in my opinion. One of the down sides to Romo and his success is the idea that anyone can walk into this job. My biggest fear after Romo showed he could get the job done was him not being able to finish the job. People will jump on that and bring up defense as they try to protect Romo's career from analysis. Again my opinion. But I was correct in that some fans are already starting to talk about this 7th round draft choice as a possibility forgetting Romo sat for a couple of years before being pressed into service. The "we've got to see what the young guys can do," mindset has always puzzled me.

As to tanking, I am not opposed to that idea, but certain criteria has to be in place. Last season was a perfect season to just play the string out in a way the team was positioning for a draft slot. I am thrilled by the draft picks, by the way. But I have to wonder if Dallas went 5-11 how the draft might have been different and this Dak issue might play out completely different.

Dalton could play somewhat well. I think there is no comparison between Dak and Dalton. The wishful thinking going on that he will suddenly become a world beater ignores he is as mobile as a fire hydrant. If this line cannot protect him between the tackles, he will take a nosedive quickly. He cannot get out of the way of the train that is coming.

MM will not tank. He spent the off season preparing for this moment. His rep is on the line. And even tanking does not assure a QB will be in the draft. Right now Walter's projects two QB's in the top 15 picks. Neither is impressive.

A decent cheap bus driver adds what exactly?

I think this plays out and what Dak does as far as accomplishments will dictate all. And people will either rejoice that he is gone or whine about his paycheck.

If he is gone this team is blown up.
I would seriously shelve the idea DiNucci will play well......It would depend on how he was handled. And I admit I dont know much about him,
and sure he would make mistakes, but no one can say how he would play until he is playing in a few games. That is the best way to find out, and good
experience for him. And I dont expect to see him this year, but you were asking what I would do lol, not what MM and jones boys would do.

Dalton could play somewhat well. I think there is no comparison between Dak and Dalton........again there is no way to know, unless you put dalton out there
for a few games.
I think even dak should look and do better this season, and so might Dalton.

MM will not tank. He spent the off season preparing for this moment. His rep is on the line....... he would tank if I told him to lol.
two QB's in the top 15 picks. Neither is impressive...... I admit I dont know about either of them, but have heard others say they are good.
If I were GM I would evaluate them now, and if I didnt care for them or see the QB I want then of course there would be no reason to tank.
Not smart to tank, unless you know what you want in the draft is going to be there, someone extra good.

A decent cheap bus driver adds what exactly?....... 20 mil or more to spend on defense.

My team would be a good offense and a great defense, and jerry and stephen are doing the opposite, a great offense, and a good defense.
So with their formula, dak needs to be great, not just good. And he needs to be able to be great against the great/good defenses.

So he plays badly against good playoff teams you say? Do you have any facts to back this up? About his personal performance against playoff teams?

its real simple the whole damn team has that record against playoff teams.....including Romo's teams..again this isn't Romo's fault he was good they all had a bad coach....either you can live with that or you can't Romo and Dak have the almost to the tee exact same everything right now...why??? it was Garrett period...

I was with you until you said "The money does not have a dang thing to do w/ the team's ability to win." What? You been drinking?

Of course the money has everything to do w/ it. Are you really unaware how the salary cap has derailed the Rams? Now you're making crazy talk.

Perhaps Dak isn't paid because they cannot determine what he is worth yet.

Or Dak isn't paid, because they paid Romo out the butt and he didn't deliver, with gaudier stats. So these guys who think thirty years in the business makes them football guys haven't a clue and the problem is not with the player but the people analyzing his play.

You have no clue what ,my theory is. I have read every word you have posted in this thread and you still don't get it. No problem. You want to fill in the blank with what you think I think.

Don't do that.

When the Eagles won the SB they spent like a drunken sailor. Rob Peter to pay Paul if you have a shot at busting through. That more than slightly exposes this idea the cap is the great equalizer.

Theres a difference between Lawrence and the dudes that were there after Burrow this year.

Off the top of my head, I cant think of many teams that would deal the pick as opposed to picking Lawrence.

Cincinnati would be one. Probably Miami.

Obviously teams like KC, but that's moot.

Detroit and Washington would draft Lawrence in a second if they land the top pick and would barely listen to offers, nor should they.

Oh, Lawrence. I thought you meant Prescott. I thought one of them might draft Tua. Detroit could have had Stafford's replacement. How often does a team get the chance to draft that high up?
