When you’re a HoF coach with as many skins on the wall as Parcells had, assembling a quality staff isn’t the challenge.

So Garrett was a victim because he wasn't a HOF coach?

Poor Garrett. Didn't have the skins on the wall and didn't have the talent over those 10 years to bring out his hidden greatness.

No doubt a victim of his surroundings.:clap:

Yeah. He probably didn't have many good connects and Jerry is Jerry which can mean many things in many ways to coaches.
Jason may have not been the ideal guy, but Jerry made nothing better.

Yah, the poor guy. He only got 10 years when nobody else would have given him 2. :muttley::muttley:

And the suffering of never having a franchise QB, what a burden. :muttley:

I think we should never forget the Garrett era. If we do, then we will be doomed to make the same mistakes.

I know there are a handful of Garrett apologists that I will NEVER let forget about the Garrett era. :muttley::muttley:

It's not us that need to remember. It's one dude that needs to remember.
I can forget, if Jerry let's me.

Looks like 5 eventual head coaches on that staff.

Beats the heck out of that clown show of misfits that were lining up to work under Garrett, and/or shoehorned in by Jerry.

Jerry has a lot to prove before I'm buying that he has learned anything.

Actually 6 HC’s. Payton, Zimmer, Bowles, Haley, Lynn and Sparano

Garrett’s a good coach. Butthurt Cowboy fans who don’t know what they’re watching didn’t change that. The fact that we’re starting the process from scratch won’t change it either. But by mid season our fans will be in the exact same place with the new staff. It’s inevitable. Wait and see.

I’m kind of surprised I have to even say it, to tell you the truth. Next step is they turn on Dak because of what he gets paid. After that, they turn on the HC and pretend they knew it all along.

Not from where I am standing. Payton got out of here the first moment he could. Couldn't wait to get out. Parcells wouldn't even give him the respect of naming an OC for his football team. Parcells held him back here. Do you see ANYTHING similar between the New Orleans offense and Parcells 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense he ran in Dallas?

First thing Payton did when he left was try to trade for Romo and pull a fast one on Parcells. Singing Brees was plan B.
Remember the payback that Payton used in his 1st vs Dallas. He had the FB run wild in the short passing game.

That year they made the playoffs the NFC East was as bad as its ever been. Dallas had the #1 ranked defense. They went 6-0 in the NFC East that year and somehow won 4 other games to sneak in at 10-6 because they won their division.

Parcells was a competent GM building the team, but he was way passed his prime. His coaching was bad. And when you make a decision to have QC as your starting QB, your team is doomed from the start. Then he brought in Testicleverde and Bledslow. His affinity for bus driver type QB's was his major coaching flaw. Without the great LT he doesn't win anything ever.

Should have started Romo in either his 2nd or 3rd year in the NFL. Then of course he quit just as the team was getting good and Romo coming of age.

Having Carter as his QB was a favor to Jerry Jones as Jones wanted to see if Carter had what it took to become a legitimate QB in this league. Parcells wanted to sign Jake Delhomme prior to him signing with Carolina.

It's not true, then he would of taken the Raider job a year earlier not stayed with the Cowboys. He was the one who found Romo and inquired if they had any interest in dealing him.

Wanting to sign Delhomme wasn't enough. Parcells lost the moment he settled on Carter. Then of course he screwed up another two times with Vinney and Bledslow.

I already went over his interest in Romo and his affinity for him.

I sometimes see Mike Zimmer listed under Bill Parcells' coaching tree. Or he is called a Parcells' guy. It amuses me because Zimmer was an assistant coach in Dallas for 9 years before Parcells arrived. He was the defensive coordinator for 3 years before Parcells tooks over as HC. He is part of the Dave Campo coaching tree, which gives me a chuckle.

It would have been a tough choice to promote Zimmer to head coach in 2007. While he did coach the 3-4 under Parcells his final 2 seasons in Dallas, it clearly wasn't his strength or the scheme he wanted to run. The rest of the league didn't rush to hire him as a HC after he left Dallas. He spent 7 more years as a DC before finally getting an HC gig. Dallas certainly could have reached out to him at some point, but he wasn't the obvious choice after 2006.

Parcells was the HC in 2006. Why would Payton turn down the opportunity to be the HC of the Saints at that time? Nothing is ever guaranteed. If he doesn't accept that job, maybe he stays in Dallas and the Cowboys do a little better in 2006 and Parcells decides to stay for 2007. Or maybe there aren't any teams looking to hire Payton in 2007. There are limited opportunities to be HC in the NFL, so Payton took that chance when it presented itself. Jerry could have promised him the job in the future, but why risk that chance. A bird in the hand type situation.

Coaching style? First thing he did was go out and get a REAL QB. When did Parcells have an elite passer like Brees?

Any more dumb comments Mr ignorant?

Brees wasn't really considered an elite passer until he teamed with Payton in New Orleans. Brees played for 5 seasons in San Diego where he averaged around 210 yards per game. He was a good passer at that time, but he wasn't considered elite, yet. Brees and Payton make a great duo. They have maxed out their potential working together.

You make complete sense.
