Towards the end of the season Jarwin was coming along. Then Witten decided to come back and Garrett did what Garrett does.

Jarwin started slow last year too but he did get better at about the 6th or 8th game his catch % went up. I think the biggest issue for either was how the coaches used them. We will see how that looks under MM with Moore calling plays.

Jarwin didn't have a breakout year when Witten went into broadcasting and he had a similar year last year. But new year with a lot of new coaches which may lead to new/more opportunities for him.
Different scenario. Jarwin was an undrafted free agent and a practice squad player the year before Witten retired and went into broadcasting, and the next year Swaim was given first crack at being Witten's replacement. That's not the same scenario today.

It seems likely to me Jarwin will step into, and do well in, a larger receiving role this season. That said, I don't expect a huge statistical season because there are too many places to spread the ball around. 650-750 yards and 5-7 TD's would be a good showing.

With most of the coverage and attention being paid to the WRs we are sporting Jarwin should get plenty of catches. And he knows how to find the end zone. He has his best games against the giants. That should make JG nervous.. Lol.

Obvious upgrade.

It was stupid what we were doing at TE last year when the better player wasn’t on the field nearly enough.

I am confident that this coaching staff will be able to deploy our offensive weapons more effectively than we have seen in the Garrett tenure. Jarwin is not a truly "complete" TE by any stretch. But he is athletic and a very skilled pass catcher, and he can pressure defenses up the seams in a way Witten has been unable to do for about the last 5 years.

With MM going to a modified WC style offense-- the short passing game will be more dynamic than at any point under Garrett. In essence, this offense will make teams defend the whole field and we will be able to exploit mismatches more effectively.

One thing I'm hoping for that hasn't been mentioned is that with Jarwin's weight increasing to 260, it'd be great if his blocking improved enough to make him a bit more of a complete TE. Be advised, I'm not actually counting on it but hey -- hoping doesn't cost a thing! Hit the weights, Blake! o_O

Witty had a lot to do with that. Now that he's gone FOR GOOD. Jarwin will definitely revamp.

I watched him play at OU and thought he would be more of a factor but the Witten Effect took it's toll on his growth in the beginning. He has showed flashes of that old OU form and it can't hurt having that trio of WRs and those RB's; however, the same problem exists, only one ball. And McC is not known for featuring the TE.

Seems like more talk than video. But worth a look and maybe start a Jarwin discussion. I think this will be the year we see Jarwin take a big leap.

upgrade from whom? himself? lmao maybe if hes gotten better but hes the same TE he was AS A ROOKIE WITH WITTEN AND A SECOND YEAR GUY WOITHOUT WITTEN AND AGIAN WITH WITTEN.. lets stop the bs he was held back from growth, if you play enough which he has , you have every changct o force your way into more play time and be trusted more..all the blame on Garett and Witten is laughable great players are great regardless of the coach or even the QB for that matter..

so yes if he has improved he will eb an upgrade from himself. Hopefully Bell and another Rook steps up and solidifies the Te position. With our 3 WRs though Balls will still be limited with or without Witten..you target your stars and right now thats Zeke, Gallup, AC and CeeDEe and Pollard is next , Jarwin will be fighting just as hard for receptions as he was any other year..

hard to use any player with the traditional three and out offense so beloved by garrett. the more we move the chains, the more we control time of possession, and the more chances all the offensive players will have to get the ball.

if the Cowboys thought that less of Jarwin, then they would not have re-signed him just this recent off season.
Even the new coaching regime had to have seen something to suggest they want to see him full fledged long term.

and Witten got on the field because of the favoritism and bias of the Garrett regime, which now they are good ridden gone now ...and so is Witten.
It's hard to judge.

When Swaim was healthy..Jarwin was 3rd string.

When Rico Gaithers was being talked up..even he was fighting with Rico for any snaps.

He had a handful of catches last year and a couple of big plays because there were some blown coverages he got by.

We still have a problem with TE.

Yes Lamb is going to take up some of the slack.

But blocking in the run game and pass protection from TE will be needed.

I hope Schultz is capable of adding something..otherwise..

I think we all will see TE disappeare from the picture until we find one by trade or draft.

The next Jay Novacek.....no crime against dreaming.
He did show very similar signs he had a little bit of Jay Novacek in him...ie..his hands, his route running and fluidity for a TE...almost receiver like. Much like Jay. Shows he is a real threat down the seam. Ask the Giants and Philly how they felt after he gashed them lol. I wanna see him take that next jump. Its now or never IMO. If he doesn't prove it this year, he never will. He will get every chance to show it. also...LOVE the new TE we signed, Blake Bell. That was a sneaky good signing. He has some swag to his game and loves to get dirty and block. I actually love the TE group and think it may have improved over what we had the last 2 years or so.

Dak will need to lean on the running game and tight ends early and often. I think teams will be so focused on our WR group that it will leave TONS of YAC available to be had for the Tight ends.

Hmm, he probably played against OU four times in his college career while playing for OSU.

He was 100% on his catch % in 3 of the first 4 games. Catch % was never a problem over the season. The shortfall was in playing time and targets, so the key is whether he can build off of last year and succeed in a bigger role.

I said nothing of being held back. I did not mention Witten at all.

My comment is this. With the receivers on the field - Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb - the defense will be hard pressed to devise a scheme to cover all three adequately. Now toss in Jarwin playing inside the hash marks, or undercutting the receivers in outs while the defense tries to use a linebacker on him, and his potential stock will rise. He catches well. He has a game after the catch, also.

I am not, and have not made a comment on the rest of the TE's nor Witten or Garrett. I am merely commenting on opportunity presented with the other people on the field.

You could also say Pollard will make a leap in the passing game for the same reason. The receivers run off the defense which put these two players in mismatch opportunities.

Bell is an unknown to me.

Here's wishing.

Mostly we need a solid blocking TE who is not a 'tell' when he enters the game.

Jarwin seems not to be the guy to me. He is a tell. They were working Schultz in to block towards the end of the year and he caught a couple of 1st downs.

Nothing special but he got 1st downs.

Jarwin's heart had to have sank when they drafted Lamb..

Slim Pickens for TE now.

IMO.

There are just so many snaps and a lot of big play possibilities on offense to consider.

Heck..I see Zeke getting more and Pollard more than Jarwin will.
