It's hard to judge.

When Swaim was healthy..Jarwin was 3rd string.

When Rico Gaithers was being talked up..even he was fighting with Rico for any snaps.

He had a handful of catches last year and a couple of big plays because there were some blown coverages he got by.

We still have a problem with TE.

Yes Lamb is going to take up some of the slack.

But blocking in the run game and pass protection from TE will be needed.

I hope Schultz is capable of adding something..otherwise..

I think we all will see TE disappeare from the picture until we find one by trade or draft.

- And between still being raw underdeveloped and inexperienced when the likes of Swaim was ahead
of the ex-Practice Squader. Jarwin had to deal with the issue with Garrett/Witten favoritism, with
ancient slow plodding Witten hogging 80% plus percent that all the more staggered Blake's moment.
With Witten finally gone (again) the total floor now Jarwin's to command, we should see more flashing moments from Blake while he still
develops.

- Jarwin's work ethic, preparation and drive put him in a position to surpass Rico Gathers for reps and snaps.
That's why Blake was not only elevated from practice squad to active roster
(when it was also being known that the Iggles tried to pouch him from our PS)

- And different coaches and teams have a different schemes in terms of how they expect their TEs to block.
Garrett regime expected their TEs like Witten,James Hanna and Geoff Swaim to man up with opposing DE's
Some lightweight TEs just cannot physically do that.and when i watch games of other teams with lightweight TEs
they don't seem to require their TEs to be that kind of frequent in-line blockers vs DE's,..the way Garrett regime
seems to prefer.

- i do worry about the TE depth though. Should the Jarwin- Blake get dinged and be out for games, is the
other Blake ( Bell) capable of filling in adequately as a receiver ? That's probably when coaching adjustment
schemes would need re-adjusted and improvised.
.

Not if they’re a great TE prospect. Jarwin hasn’t shown the ability to get open consistently underneath, which is another reason he continued to lose snaps to Witten. He has shown the ability to get down the field and make a play but he’s not a chain mover. He’s not a bad player but he’s limited and isn’t the long-term answer.
most of his big plays have come against the giants. I hate to say it, but take the giants game out and he is a below average TE, trouble getting separation on shorter routes and his biggest plays are down the seam running against a LB. he was the 5th option on the team and back up TE. now, as a starter, he is going to struggle mightily.

we need to draft a TE

He is a giant killer. JG will love it. Lol. He had a hard time because I think Swaim was better in the system. We will see this year, he is gonna be my pet cat i think. He knows how to get to the end zone. Or much better at YAC than Witten . Lol.

I said nothing of being held back. I did not mention Witten at all.

My comment is this. With the receivers on the field - Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb - the defense will be hard pressed to devise a scheme to cover all three adequately. Now toss in Jarwin playing inside the hash marks, or undercutting the receivers in outs while the defense tries to use a linebacker on him, and his potential stock will rise. He catches well. He has a game after the catch, also.

I am not, and have not made a comment on the rest of the TE's nor Witten or Garrett. I am merely commenting on opportunity presented with the other people on the field.

You could also say Pollard will make a leap in the passing game for the same reason. The receivers run off the defense which put these two players in mismatch opportunities.

no but if you didnt join today we both know its been a narrative around here..

i agree it should open up both the RB/TE for far more pass catches this season , however think about this regardless of what we think CEEDEE might become, do you think CD will surpass what cobb did last season, i mean that would be a great feat, we nearly had 3 1k WRS last year and somehow the TE/RB hardly seen any passes in crunch time.. our offenses was ranked top 5 in most category's even though it felt like in stat padding only we still should have utilized the TE/RB in the pass game far more often..

hopefully MM has clue and lets KM know he left meat on the bone in and 8-8 season that left us hungry for more..blame garett all you want but KM was the play caller and hes back..gives me pause..

proof will unfold on the field..

In reality, Jarwin should be good, just because of what defenses SHOULD need to deal with.

Just like Hatcher getting sacks that one season because people were constantly double teaming Ware.

Jarwin should have it pretty easy when Lamb, Coop, Gallup, Zeke are on the field... it could make him look really good like Hatcher seemed to look to people.
Until you watched how much Ware was getting double teamed.

He was 100% on his catch % in 3 of the first 4 games. Catch % was never a problem over the season. The shortfall was in playing time and targets, so the key is whether he can build off of last year and succeed in a bigger role.

link it i cant find anything that says that. I hate the new nfl website layout, so maybe i'm missing the info.

Jarwin is going to look pedestrian when he is in the primary packages. While he will have better YPC stats I expect him to be close to what he accomplished last year. As the primary TE on the field he is not impressive to me. Everyone points to the huge game every 6.2 games. I point to the meh games every 1.1 game

ok I must have looked after the jets game and not before it.
Regardless, even though his catch % was consistent and strong last year, there is still something for him to prove. As the primary TE he will get more attention from opposing defenses, so it remains to be seen how things will go with him having a bigger workload. I like him as a receiver, but I don't mind admitting that his somewhat small sample size doesn't guarantee the kind of success the Cowboys need. Time will tell ...

Seems like more talk than video. But worth a look and maybe start a Jarwin discussion. I think this will be the year we see Jarwin take a big leap.

The water boy is an upgrade from Witten, so yes. A paraplegic would only be a slight downgrade from Witten, for a reference point.

Blake Jarwin has been a potential success as far as receiving is concerned. As far as blocking is concerned, that's not the case. The Cowboys really need another TE to be one who's reliable in both phases of that position to complete their receiving corps up to an excellent level.

I think this team would be wise to add another one with the ability to excel in both receiving and blocking. If they don't, they might be lacking an important component to being the best receiving corps in the NFL. Claiming to, without a complete TE might be a serious case of assuming superiority without just cause.
