Has Mike McCarthy talked to media?

Most coaches see the media as a necessary evil. They aren't usually highly motivated when it comes to communicating with them.

Mike and Jerry may have come to an arrangement as to who and when communication is necessary.

I think they want everything as quiet as possible around the team. Get to work and get this transition done smoothly. A lot of work needs to be done.

I'm not sure why this is difficult for many to grasp. It seems some don't understand the reason coaches talk to media is because it is an obligation that goes with the job, and not something most would do otherwise. Yet there are still fans that seem to think it is the coach initiating press conferences, and that they should be expected to give all the unknown details of whatever is going on with the team. Most coaches would rather say as little as possible, and certainly very little with substance, and just worry about coaching.

As long as he is meeting with the players and his coaching staff that is all that matters, really not concerned with the media

Would fans rather have Belichick doing his Eeyore imitation? Or trying to see if there are little legs on Reid's upper lip? Or watch McVay act like he's being questioned about his whereabouts during a murder? Or how about Case looking like he's getting a prostate exam during an interview?

One element of this was that during this contract negotiation, being out of sight for coaches and players was advisable. Coaches like to stay as far away from that as they can. Even Johnson didn't get involved in the Emmitt deal until they went to 0-2. Schramm always made sure to keep Landry clear of contract chatter.

Anyone here think if McC gives a pc he wasn't going to get Prescott questions? Hell, that's all he would have gotten.

I'm a little more reserved with my expectations with MM than most seem to be. He was basically labeled a Garrett before being let go in GB. Schemes were vanilla, predictable, conservative, etc. Now, he's a creative football man. His GB teams always seemed to beat us, so maybe that's why DAL fans remember him more fondly?

That said it's a fresh start and he's not some old man who couldn't learn some things to improve his offense during his time away from the game as a HC. He seemed to help Rodgers early in his career so want to see what he does with Dak.
Yes.

Coaches, schemes and their comfort blankets.

His rep with his past coming out of GB is uncomfortable for us. And having a rep of repeatedly beating us with Dak at QB is his claim to fame with us.

But we were no great teams then, just excited to have avoided another failure by getting into any playoffs.

When I think of ex HCs who have come here and been successful..only Jimmy Johnson and Parcells. Others like Marinelli not so successful.

If it was just Dak he had to improve, the outlook would appear easier.

But after having lost 2 of our best defensive players in Jones and Quinn..and all new coaches and little practice and no preseason games..

McCarthy has to wonder how much of his 5 year deal he will be seeing.

For example:

See Belicek, William S.

Most of the best coaches in NFL history were the most boring when interviewed. However, when you interview those that are close to them, they talk about them being mostly personable and some even said to be really good story tellers with a great sense of humor.

Gruden seems comfortable doing interviews and in front of the camera, want him?

Watch Belichick out of the pc's, he's presenting exactly what he wants to the media. The problem is he's so boring, it's entertaining watching him try to reach new levels of boring.

Every HC in the NFL has seen the Coors Light ads with coaches being demonstrative. I don't think many of them want to be remembered for "that's why they play the game" or "they are who we thought they were" but Jim Mora flat out owns the "playoffs?" My favorite of all time was Denny Green's "they are who we thought they were". There was a self aware man that realized it when he was playing a better team than his own and had a unique way of delivering his message.

I'd rather the HC give nothing to the media, who really cares?

Good call. Mike McCarthy has more than enough to do, without bothering to please the media with meaningless BS. ;)

I can easily admire that inclination. I'll bet he values the difference between needless salesmanship and preparation. :)

How much did Garrett go out of his way to talk to the media?

The HC of the DC is not the spokesperson for the team. Hasn't been in quite some time.
