Probably, but if there's a free agent out there, it would seem prudent to ask a coach he played for for input. Most coaches go after players that they know about personally or have staff who know about them because it gives you a better understanding of their fit, work ethic, etc.

No doubt about that. But what I'm saying is that I doubt Edwards has enough clout to play a significant role in what could be an $8 - $10 million dollar decision so soon after his own return.

Having gone after Aldon Smith, though, there may have been absolutely no consideration by this front office about going after Griffen, especially if his asking price was high.

Which I feel is a mistake, exacerbated by the fact that Crawford still sits on their books for $8 million in salary. He couldn't carry Griffen's jock, and if the Cowboys chose Crawford over Griffen, they look like fools.

Frustrating to watch better teams continuing to make moves while we sit on our hands with Crawford still on this roster.

He had 8 sacks last year, was a good run stuffer (better than Quinn ever was). He'd be the best RDE on our roster the minute he signed. The aversion some of you have to bringing in an older guy for a year or two that can still play and help is downright strange.

I mean are you really trying to argue here that we are better off starting, say, Tyrone Crawford at RDE? Because that looks to be the plan for now.
I believe Aldon Smith figures in here somewhere.

But just at first look..

DE is a need.

I think b/w the DL and the secondary we are going to need to score major points during the whole game.

If Dak continues like last year to wait until 4th Qts. to produce points..

we are going to see Dalton by December trying to save the season.

Not good.

How is someone who was injured last year even in the conversation , especially with only 23 career sacks in 8 seasons while counting $8 million against the cap ?

One of two answers:
  1. They're waiting until Crawford can pass a physical to cut him without an injury settlement
  2. They really are morons who can't see what the rest of the world can, and want to waste another $8 million of precious cap and roster space like they did last year

You are being naive. Of course Marinelli isn't going to come out and take responsibility.

If that's the case then Jones would say don't blame me it was Marinelli's fault. We haven't that either.

He might be asking for too much? He might not want to go through early camp and will drop his price as we get closer to the season? Teams might be scared of cap implications next year?

There are a lot of possibilities.

If he was that good then teams would at least contact him and see exactly what he's asking for and see if there was any chance he would come down, but no, teams haven't even done that. Also by waiting teams will have very little cap space and he has to know that he wouldn't get his asking price by waiting until then. He's going to end up as another player who sits and waits until a team has injuries and in desperate need for a player and then he'll have to accept a very low salary or keep on sitting.

When have you ever heard Jerry blame a coach or scout for a bad pick?

You haven't. Because he won't.

Seattle has contacted him.

So there goes your theory. I also guess teams that might have interest are seeing what happens with Clowney because I suspect teams interested in Griffen would also have interest in Clowney.

Outside free agents are yucky.

Unless we sign them. In that case, we are soooooo aggressive.

Rules for every Front Office with the possible exception of Cowboys.

1. Is he available? Yes.
2. Is he affordable? Seems to be Yes.
3. Does he make us better? Most would agree Yes.

Stephen Jones rules:
1. Did we draft him? No, so he probably isn't any good.
2. Is he willing to play for league minimum, pay for his own parking at The Star, and kick me back 10%? No
3. Can we wait until the trade deadline, panic, and spend a 1st round pick to address a need we knew about in the off-season? Maybe.

WOW All of 1 team out 32. Now that's something to brag about. Oh by the way that contact was back on May 1, THREE MONTHS AGO and he's still sitting. Gee with contacts like that he must be some really good player. With an onslaught of suitors like that a team better do something today or they risk not getting him at all.

lol another guy right up against the back half of his career, how many of those players do you want? we already have Poe and McCoy on the downside of their careers.
On a one year deal I see the logic
The issue is really the future cap and the benefit of carrying over every Penney you can to impact that to me

That is a very good point. And more reason for me wanting Crawford gone. They wasted nearly $10 million of cap space on him in 2019. For a net result of four mediocre games and 1 sack. Even the biggest excuse-maker can't spin it to where that's a good return on investment.

And they currently sit ready to pay him another $8 million in salary this year. Absolutely ridiculous.

But if the team is worried about cap space, the least they could do is to cut Crawford and roll that $8 million over for next year.

When Griffen goes out and has a good 2020 season, I suspect you'll forget your rantings here. Typical of Cowboys fans that defend whatever the Cowboys do in FA, even when it doesn't work out.

I cant say they're better at dt right now. Id have to see it 1st.

I can.

Poe and McCoy are better on their worst days over what this team put out there last year.

We are free from the negative effects of Rod Marinelli.

I understand that seeing is believing, but it's pretty hard to believe highly regarded players like McCoy and Poe aren't going to be significantly better than Collins and Woods.
