Out of boredom, I decided to watch highlights of this game tonight for first time since I slammed the remote down in a drunken stupor in what feels like years ago. I haven’t been able to bring myself to look at highlights even though the game produced some of the best ones from the season. What a missed opportunity. What a heart breaker. What a low point to be a fan of this team.

Everything was set up perfectly. Dak has arguably his best game as a pro IMO and we drove down the field to win the game. Despite poor play calling and falling behind early, we had the game in our grasp. We all know the outcome and would’ve been a season defining victory has instead became a season defining defeat.

Games like that, the Jets, Saints and of course, the Eagles made 2019 the most miserable season I remember. There is no way that team, especially offensively, should’ve been 8-8.

Thank god this team got the change we deserved. A 57 yard field goal on an opening drive!?
The punt return!?
The final 3 plays?

How in the world could a veteran coaching staff make mistakes like that? All in one game?

It’s almost as laughable as this 9 month delayed rant.

Another game where the defense crapped the bed so much and put us in a big hole right off the bat.

This offense really has zero room for error. The defense and special teams gives them no help at all. Dak and this offense come back from the deficit and we take the lead. What does the defense do? Allow the Vikings to easily march down the field and take the lead right back. They did this exact thing in the Saints game. This defense could not make a play in the clutch to save their lives.

I knew this defense was going to be bad right out the gate against NYG. People brushed it off because we won and the offense looked great but man, Giants moved the ball at will against us. Not many teams didn't get what they wanted.

Thats a rod marinelli defense for you. What was worse was watching d law constantly coming out on 3rd down plays. Defense couldnt make a play to save a life all season

Watching Jason Garrett coach another season last year was like watching the same car wreck happen every week...in the same intersection at the same time of day, with the same driver behind the wheel.

"After taking the lead the Dallas defense allowed Minnesota to easily march down the field".

You mean that 13 play drive that Minnesota scored on a 4th and goal? That easy one.

Yes lets defend the 19th ranked defense in DVOA.

I love how everyone goes to the analytics when normal stats are inconvenient.

Dallas was 9th in yards and 11th in points allowed last year. Both are in the top third of the league.

But with the most inconsistent offense in the NFL last year but you're right, Dallas needed to be in the top 5 for this team to succeed.

Go by stats per drive its a lot more accurate. Cowboys defense had total stats that looked good because they werent on the field as often as other defenses. Like i said they were below average last year across the board. But what do they expect bringing back a defensive staff that allowed 273 yards rushing in a playoff game

This season is going to confirm a lot of opinions and dispel a lot of opinions. The Cowboys play the Giants twice this season as usual. If the Giants win just one of those games with an impressive offensive showing then this forum is going o blow up.

McCarthy's honeymoon is over in a few weeks, A former SB winning coach hired for a talented but underperforming team doesn't get a grace period. I'm not saying this out of my own feelings on the subject, If the Cowboys start out 1-3, it's over before it began. Sports media and social media will eat him alive..

Going back and forth on the offense and defense is one argument.

I think we can all agree the special teams was ABHORRENT all season long. A good special teams unit probably gets Dallas another win or two on the season.

Even in this Vikings game. The special teams killed the cowboys. Killed them. In multiple ways. How do you fair catch that last Vikings punt?

Cowboys fans are so used to having defenses that are awful at forcing turnovers, that they don’t even bring it up when discussing defensive stats anymore.

the cowboys defense was tied for 6th WORST in the league last year at forcing turnovers.

It’s arguably the second most important star behind points given up per drive. And the cowboys defense was AWFUL at forcing turnovers.

as a matter of fact. Not a single team as bad as the cowboys at forcing turnovers, made the playoffs last year.

coincidence?

Turnover differential is still one of the most significant factors in wins or losses.

even in this Vikings game. The cowboys committed one turnover. A Prescott interception. Committing one turnover in a game isn’t bad. As a matter of fact. The cowboys were 9th in fewest giveaways last season.

But the defense couldn’t force a single turnover in that Vikings game. Not one. So the cowboys lost the turnover battle, despite only coughing the ball up once themselves.

One of the worst teams at forcing turnovers. Worst special teams. And people really want to argue about why the team was 8-8 and couldn’t beat playoff teams.

Very good post. Special teams often get overlooked when replaying what went wrong last season.

If the Cowboys start 1-3 Dak is getting the blame. MM is one of the best coaches in the league, he will get a grace period. In the first 4 games Dak goes up against Goff, Ryan, Wilson, and Mayfield. Dak not only needs to win those games but he better outperform those guys.

Even if he does he won’t get credit for it. Only blame if he loses.

Lol.....and what did you just do?

cowboys offense was #1 in the nfl not 10th.

yet it’s not convenient so you say something stupid like.......they were inconsistent.

so they were inconsistently #1?

troll logic......gotta laugh at it.
