These days, any legit media would be locked out of threads and forums and benched regularly... lol

I remember when Rob Pettiti's dad joined and got torched for every missed block or penalty his son
was responsible for.

Yeah I wouldn't say this site has realistic debates at all. Its always extremes. I just sort of assumed this is what you get in a environment where people are keyboard warriors and are posting anonymous.

It's a site all about their writer's point of view, without them debating the subject matter.

Broaddis had an account on here years ago I believe. but he got so much grief he stopped.

Bob Sturm posted as well, mostly his analytics but not his opinions as a regular poster. I think he too was ran off because of all the usual negativity. Not that he is a fan. But just was tiring. Also he posted in another place, but doesn’t anymore. So it could be that he is just too busy. Plus it is on his own site. Maybe he wants people to see it there. To get ads clicked on. Can’t blame him.
from all people they should have a very thick skin why would they run off from negativity ....

Because I think as usual most of the negativity was just stupid posts. Insults type stuff. Waste of time.

Exactly what I was going to say.

It's obvious that they lurk here and obtain topics and talking points for their jobs.

A great resource, free of charge, while they get paid for using it.

Oh yes we seen it many times, something is posted on here, then later that day or the next day there is an article or something mentioned on the same subject. Sometimes almost word for word.

If some do not have accounts or a secret account, they have someone, a friend looking.

Of course the Mods can't tell us and rightfully so.

Sure, it’s possible, but I doubt it’s more than some folks want to imagine.

Reporting is a job. These guys may have a beat following the Cowboys but it doesn’t mean they’re fans of the team, so why would they be on a fan message board?

Also, these guys have real relationships with players and sources close to the team. What would they gain coming on a fan forum?

I could see a few limited scenarios where something has occurred to the team where they are trying gauge fan reaction or opinion on a matter, but not much else.

10 years ago I would say yes. Pre twitter, yes.

Today no. No reason to and almost no relevant information comes from message boards anymore. This site used to have tons of smart and creative fans.

Now anyone who has anything to say or offer has a blog or a youtube channel so they can promote themselves.

I remember the early 00's and message boards were huge. National stories used to come from them. My favorite one ever is the guy who grabbed a screen capture of the Commanders website and then made a fake official announcement that Clinton Portis had Torn his ACL at the first or second day of training camp. The guy put the image on extreme skins I think it was and then it was on espn and Joe Gibbs had to make a special announcement that portis was fine and practicing that day. I think that was the 04 or 05 training camp. I forget which one.

Funny stuff.

I think its definitely possible. If you're a media member why not attempt to gauge the pulse of the fans point of view?

Remember they are doing a job. This is pure passion for us.

That said....some people here definitely work for the team.

I don't see how its humanly possible that some of you defend a quarter century of futility with the passion that you do otherwise.

If I'm Jerry I absolutely pay people to be on my side around here.

Failure after failure and people still attempt to justify it. Dont know...you tell me.

I think you might be underrating how writers are always seeking sources and ideas and such.

I agree the media likely looks at sites like this. After all, they make their living on stories that fans are interested in, and this would be a source for determining that.

What makes you say some here work for the team? Do you think it's just natural that there are employees that would be interested enough in the team to be a member here, or do you think the team is paying people to be a member and participate in the threads?

Never heard the media talk about Garrett's clapping until years later after it was talked about on here. Then it is all GMFB talked about last year for a while, or at least brought up now and then.

I don't know if many remember, when the Jets were on hard knocks. Rex Ryan was looking at various team blogs to see what the fans are saying about him and the franchise.

Writers and sports talkers that address the Cowboys need ideas and sources. There is nothing wrong with tapping into fan sites to pick up the vibe and if they do that enough, they also pick up on who they want to follow. One way of finding a good source is to check their posts and Likes and then the content to see what it is about this poster that draws the Likes.

If you find enough of those types of posters across a few sites, you've got a source to tap into to get a feel for the fans. These are fans that are willing to spend their time discussing their team and they are also the most likely to listen to sports talk and read the articles about their teams.

The other source a site like this supplies is to those writers that are going to do the coach's call the week of the game. What better source could an out-of-towner have than a site like this?

I think most of the people assigned to discuss this team at least drops by to scan the headlines and if something shines, they drill down into it and see if it's got legs. If this is what the hardcore fans are talking about, this is what they want to talk about. And it is really easy to scan this site and in a matter of minutes pick up on what's hot.

Do we really think these people wanted to keep talking about Prescott's contract? They came here and saw so many threads about that subject, they knew the P1's, the ultra audience for radio shows, would not stop talking about it so it's easier to feed people food they like. And they have space and time to fill.

The advantage of a site like this for them is it is not mainstream like FB and Twitter where people will try and talk about anything. The people here are a very specific concentrated focus group and not only do they come here, they start threads to see what kind of legs they can get out of that topic. Wouldn't you?

I'm sure they check in from time to time but leave quickly after reading all the negativity from the usual haters.

Rocky, do you think the majority of fans, willing to spend the time talking about this team, are happy with the team? The negativity has an ebb and flow to it which is reflected in a lot of the talking and writing about this team from those that are not paid to be clown acts like Bayless, Sharpe, Smith and Cowerd.
