In a shortened or no season, how do you look ahead to 2021 FA, Draft?

Have we as fans thought in strategic terms about such a scenario?
What of tanking in a shortened season to get Lawrence in the 2021 draft?
How about resting and protecting our stars in an asterisk season?
What of showcasing Dak for a trade in a possible 4-4 season?
Would we commit, ruffians, to an extension of the staid Moore offense through 2021?

Everyone here is fixated on 2020.
And 2020 likely won't happen.

The BB Pats are already at the 25 yd line in a 50 yard dash ...

There is no real way for the Cowboys to tank hard enough with the talent they have to even reach the 5th pick. As such neither of the top 2 QBs is really practical and then there is going to be a likely drop off where the odds get even worse than normal.

No, we wont tank, but there's the chance that: with a new coach, no pre season-games and a defense that could be questionable (though improved) we wont be play-off caliber.

Have you also considered that if the NFL copy MLB with 'localized' rather than divisional games, we may not have the chance to get our annual 4 wins from NY and Washington.

In that case we'll just have to go with a temporary QB stop gap (Dalton), trade for a second tier QB and draft for defense.

MM may even have his eye on one of the other draft eligible QB's .....we dont know.

I would if there is no college season. I would have a huge combine SEC,ACC,PAC,BIG12,BIG10,WAC,etc..... I would make it 300 players from each major conference, Smaller Conferances 150, Division 2& 3 ,75 prospects.

Best case scenario is we win the Super Bowl with an asterisk forever on the record.

I think most teams already have a pretty good handle on their 2021 draft boards.
They do not.

2021 will be a lot of guessing. Educated guesses but guesses all the same.

This year, the FO's who have expertise in talent projection will stand out.

I also think a lot of FO's will look back at 2021 as a mulligan. Will be a ton of misses because they have so much less film and data to go on.

I don't dwell in the negative. It's wasting valuable time you can't get back.

Well yes and no. The guessing game will be a lot more true after probably the third round, but that's always kind of an issue anyway. Less data to go on, but the draft relies more on traits than production, and traits are already on film.

It's not as if a scouting staff doesn't already have - if not round grades, specifically - evaluations of where they think a player is going to go. In the same way that, like, Todd McShay, puts out a mock draft the day after a draft, teams are already doing that. Plus, they'll still have the combine and probably more workouts than before.
