Five things i am most EXCITED about in this Cowboys 2020 year:

1 Much better HC,asst coaching impact in all 3 phases of the game (vs Garrett regime)
2 Better Defense plan/personnel per vs run, pass rush & ball hawks
3 Addition of C Lamb, expansion of Zeke, Pollard and Jarwin
4 Moore and Musshemeir returning to Dak
5 Contribution of rookie class (Lamb,Diggs,Neville,Biadasz,Bradley,)

Five things i am most CONCERNED about in this Cowboys 2020 year

1) Uncertainty about the Secondary
2) new OL coach Joe Philibin replacing Marc Columbo
3) RDE starting role
4) LB depth
5) Our Offense vs NFL's Best Defenses

On the concerned portion.

1. This concern is a valid one. It can be a problem if our pass rush is lacking. If our pass rush is good, it can be hidden.
3. This ties right in to number 1. I have to believe Aldon Smith might make a difference if he has anything left. Then the Gregory issue. It's a concern. But I think our interior line is looking good. I'd say the chances are in our favor. We'll have to wait and see.
4. I didn't think it was that bad?
5. I'd worry more about our defense against best offenses. There are no more really good defenses. Even the best defenses of today are only good in comparison to some of the 80s and 90s defenses that were stacked. Our offense should be able to move the ball on anyone.

I have to add one more thing. I wonder what Dick Vermeil would do with this team. He coached a team a few decades ago that looked similar on offense. Minus Kurt Warner of course.

Good post. Mine would be...

Excited:
1. A real head football coach
2. What McCarthy will do with all the offensive talent
3. Following a very good rookie class
4. Watching real DTs play in Dallas
5. Aldon Smith
Bonus: Talented new faces on the OL

Concerned:
1. The Dak contract situation and potential distraction
2. The LBs are VERY hit or miss
3. Mike Nolan’s checkered past as a DC
4. Can Smith play 16 games
5. Will we even have football
Bonus - How the woke BS may permanently hurt a once great league

2 Completing the season
3 Secondary
4 Center
5 Guard
6 Injuries
7 Defense giving up big plays in the passing game

#4 is a joke and #5 is a joke. Those aren't legitimate high end concerns on your list.

I would take your #2 and move that to concerns and move your #5 under concerned up to excited.

This team is no different than the previous teams, they will only go as far as the offense will take them.

-Hopefully, the healthy return of Lve into the lineup.
-Having a legitimate, massive NT that should help our run and hit linebackers
-Zeke's expansion to the team's passing game as well as Pollard/Jarwin
-Cooper playing more snaps in the slot
-Moving away from Marinelli defensive scheme.
-The safety position, I think it;s going to be much better then many think
-Crossing my fingers, but a more of a consistent PK.

-Making up for the loss of our best pass rusher and best cover corner
-Pass rush, don't think enough pressure players
-Creating more defensive turnovers
-Team Tackling
-Kellen Moore as a pass happy playcaller
-Ability to start faster and not playing ahead in which Zeke's best trait as a closer is not used.
-Special Team units

in terms of our offense vs good defenses - who are that on our 2020 schedule who best fit he mold of Good D" ?
Niners ?
Ravens?
Steelers ?
Vikes ?
Searrle ?
Do we still put the Iggles in mix on Defense ?

https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/schedule/_/name/dal ..(Cowboys 2020 schedule)

How did our Offense fair against the better defenses last year in 2019: ala Pats, Bills, Saints, Bears, Vikes and Philly? (2nd game)
Sure we can walk all over the weak sisters like Giants, Skins and Dolphins, but the more competitive defenses ?

Forget last year. A lot of this is gameplan and coaching. We looked like crap against good defenses last year. But the situation is different now. Think about it. Do you think Jarred Goff was so good that the Rams team went to the SB on his back? Or that their system was above and beyond? The fact that the Cowboys didn't do well against good defenses isn't necessarily a result of said good defense. It was probably a result of not being sufficiently prepared for your opponent. That's a coaching issue in preparation. Elite defenses no longer exist. Our offense should be able to move the ball on anyone.

5 positives
1. We have a legit NFL head coach
2. Good draft (on paper)
3. QB (yes I believe we have a top 10 QB in Dak and a quality backup in Dalton)
4. Zack Martin, Ty Smith and La’el Collins
5. Expecting better special teams play (no where to go but up)

5 concerns
1. Average Defense (At best)- especially DL and secondary.
2. Adjusting to new coaching staff during a global pandemic that limits practice time
3. Age of most guys we are counting on for DL. Most- not all- are past their prime
4. talented but injury prone LBs.
5. The Jones boys keeping appropriate distance. They won’t of course, but hoping Coach Mac can dominate the locker room. If this team starts winning, expect Jerry to jump in and grab the spotlight.

Irony as i see it, i think just the opposite, i think the team can only go as far as the defense takes it.
We've had productive offenses before in both Romo- Dak days, but in the end, it's always been the Defense that
ends up letting us down and gets us kicked outta the playoffs (see 2014 per GB..., 2016 again per GB..., and 2018 per Rams)

Having just an Ok serviceable defense that has to have the offense to carry it ,ain't cutting it. .

Good point. I desperately hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see this defense being consistently good. They may have some moments here and there, but if we take the fan glasses off and are honest, this is a patchwork crew. Could they surprise? Sure. Will they? I seriously doubt it.

it maybe one thing to talk about moving the ball,.. it's another thing to talk about being effective and finishi in the red zone and actually scoring.
- the slow starts,..erratic FG kicking game,..seemingly conservatism on the road (see Saints, Jets, Philly) .. a lack of splash plays from RBs in pass game all could have a part in ineffectiveness,
heres' hoping this new coaching regime can better address and solve those concerns, but it'll remain a concern with me until i see different.

But it can be done and IND and NO proved that with opportunistic D's.

This D doesn't have to be shutdown or a top 5, just get the turnovers up. In 14, that wasn't a great D but ranked 2nd in picks.

Now, I am not talking about sustaining anything with that but they could make that work for one season like IND and NO did. To be a sustainable true contender, a team has to have a consistent and dependable D. The Cowboys haven't had either.

5 i'm excited about
•coach mccarthy on the sidelines.
•the addition of ceedee lamb to michael gallup and COOOOOOOOOOOOOOP.
•mike nolan as def coord and the changes he brings.
•the return of the wolf-hunter and moving Van Jaylon to maybe their more natural positions...jaylon outside...wolf hunter to the middle.
we have 54 at OLB...55 at MLB...that worked well for coach landry.
•the beef added to the interior of our dline and what that could do in our run defense.

my 1 and only concern...
the impact of this weird off-season on the fundamentals of blocking and tackling and the implementation of any changes on offense and defense.
the impact it may have on our timing and execution.
it is a real concern...but every other team is facing it as well so it levels the playing field.
i just want football...damn it.

Another irony ? ..the same year a one legged injured Rodgers knocked us outta the playoffs in 2014, we had the 2nd best defense
in the NFL in creating turnovers with 31, despite being the 15th ranked Defense in the NFL .. but we still did not reap the rewards that
the Saints and Packers did to win their respective SB's.

I’m excited about the new scheme, Dak’s progress, Zeke seeming more motivated and watching Lamb.

I’m worried about the offensive line being injury prone, the new pieces on the defensive line not jelling right away, and the overall mediocrity of our secondary.

Things I'm excited about:
1. I don't have to see that awful grin from that red headed coach that loves to spit and clap.
2. A coaching staff comprised of football guys.
3. The WR trio is going to be hell on opposing DC's.
4. The draft looked great and we will be getting McGovern back.
5. Zeke.

Things I'm not excited about:
1. Commentators and talking heads talking about Dak and his contract all the time.
2. Pass rush.
3. The TE position.
4. The Punter.
5. Will there even be football, and if so, how will the pandemic impact scheme installation? These guys have five weeks to learn a new system.
