New Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy says he has more work to do in learning the offense the team already runs than the team has to learn the offense McCarthy prefers. Although McCarthy will obviously make some changes to the Cowboys' offense, he has retained offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and said his top priority is [more]

First he said they would keep the verbiage Moore was using and then he said they would keep some of it. The next thing he says it it is a new offense and now he's walking that back and I can only assume the conditions that he has to work under have caused him to be very fluid and it is most fortuitous for him to have brought Moore back.

With limited prep time, it is better for him to tweak and see where he can improve this offense so it fares better against the better teams than to bring in a new one.

This was the #1 O last season but that ranking does not tell us how it ranked in the 8 losses against the 8 wins, that's the real story.

You and I traded post about this.........just posted in another thread how I'm now confused. Is he going with KM playbook, his own or both?

I've heard everything including it was a new offense. In his defense, the world changed after he took the job and he's in uncharted territory with a new coaching staff and the second year OC may be the most stabilizing force.

I really don't think we're going to see McC's O, at least the one he wants to run, until next season. This will be the toughest season on coaches since the strike season and this might be tougher, at least then they knew who they had available week to week. Man, strategy goes out the window and it's tactical warfare for all of them.

There can be truth in all that he has said. I believe Amari has said the routes aren't different so it's possible the passing game bears a lot of similarities and language. However, the blocking scheme and running game could differ along with how they combine those routes.

I think the main thing McCarthy wanted to avoid is calling the same route or play a different name. Just use the name the players already know. That's where Kellen bridges the gap.

McCarthy says the right things but then his actions are completely different and there has been a few examples of this so far.

Not saying that’s good or bad. All I care about is winning.

I wonder if Kellen ends up not calling plays in the end which I’m ok with.

This whole thing could be that the last offense was so basic that there wasn’t enough verbiage to make it more dynamic.

I can't pretend to know enough about the inner workings of things to know if Moore is fine but Garrett was holding him back...or what.

I guess that's what we have to hope after these comments.

It's a shame the degree that hope has to be a plan for us fans.

But if its gonna be the same old nonsense on offense we are screwed....meaning anything goes at home and crawl into a hole on the road.

We were #1 ranked in yards. But couldn’t put up points. So many drives from deep in our territory. Missed FG or drive ending penalties or poor execution. Bad passes or dropped passes.

There is only 1 way to find out just how much MM will change the offense. I doubt he wants to tinker too much with an offense that was pretty good between the 20's. Maybe he just changes some window dressing, play sequencing, and most important maybe he can increase red zone efficiency.

We will not know what type of offense the team is running until we play games. MM is not going to tell reporters what he is going to do. He wants other teams to think we are still running Garrett’s offense. Same with the defense. It will take at least 4 games to know what we do best as a team. Believe me the Cowboys have a plan and it will be executed. Dumb Stephen tried to spill the beans on Dak working with players at his home. You know Zeke brought the play book to the workouts. The unknown will work in our favor.

For those that are somewhat confused, well, MM did his job. As Parcells used to say...consider yourself sucked...MM has caused people to be confused, so when they hit the field in game one. The opposing defense will not know what to expect and it will take some games to start to figure it out.

I am just waiting for TC and then the games. Whatever they do, I just hope they themselves get it figure out by game one. I don't care about terminology or same plays, different plays, a mix of both. Just get it coordinated and keep others confused.

Rodgers called him the dumbest coach he had ever been around, now it looks like the SL, JG offense that KM runs will be basically the same. I hope the Cowboys didn't dump one idiot for another. Should be a great year to watch with all the questions over this team. I can hear it now, "we were not on the same page" as MM throws KM under the bus.

Coach!!!!
Agreed. With no preseason games to judge his WCO, he'll have to mostly rely on Moore's verbage and misdirectional plays.

So you believe a whiny butt selfish player in AR over a HC that helped the TEAM to a SB?

I think we will be fine. He said Daks biggest learning will be the new language. He is changing the language and signals Moore uses because there was a few teams last year that picked up on Moore’s signals. Moore was using the same signals he used in college and it got us killed in the game. They knew what we were doing, which in JG Offense everyone knew our plays and just had to stop is from executing.

MM is changing some of the language and keeping some. So MM is having to learn the part Moore is using and keeping. I do think we are going to see misdirection and that’s what MM is learning. But MM is going to have Dak getting rid of the ball wuick and letting the player use his talent to get YAC. Take some deep shots and run the rock. Should be a great mix and teams won’t have film on us early in the season. The newer look should get us some early success.

A better ST and hoping the Defense is at least not as predictable and conservative as years past.
