I always use Sportrac also, I just looked at OvertheCap and they list 50 million over. No matter what, some of those veterans on the Eagles team are going to get cut or restructured down.

I was just going down the list of high paid Eagles players. They're going to have to go on a restructure bonanza! Cutting guys, which I assume they will, isn't going to have much of an impact as their dead cap isn't much less on many of them. I don't know what they have in mind.

I would absolutely positively 100% not franchise tag next year. Put a transition tag on him and match any offer. Teams are not going to have much to spend.

I would call this the "Todd France is an idiot and doesn't read the papers so he had no clue he could be forcing Dak to be a free agent during a down cap year" discount.

I love the name of the discount, I just have a hard time finding it. Transition tagging him next year is still going to be a 38 million dollar cap hit if no one else signs him. Keep in mind, Dak doesn't have to sign any offers. He may say to himself, unless I'm offered 38 million a year, I'm not signing any offer. I'll just stay here for 38 million.

That's without Dak's $38M if they were to tag him again.

The Cowboys would be $36M over the cap at that point.

Or look at like this, the 2021 Cowboys have $2M in cap room and the only QB they'll have under contract is 2020 7th round pick Ben DiNucci.
dont understand ur math
31mm comes off with Daks 2020 contract expiring-38 would be new figure- think we are only extra 7MM over

He's saying even with that 31 million coming off the Cowboys are still over the cap. Other players are getting pay raises. For example Cooper is going to be a 22 million dollar cap hit next year as opposed to 12 million this year.

Spotrac has Dallas at 183 million without counting any money for Dak.

He's stating that they are at $2M cap room for 2021 with all contracts running through the 2021 season. Dak's $31M is no longer part of that since it's a 1-year deal.

I asked him on Twitter was that $2M in cap room accounting for Dak's 2nd year tag # of $38M. He said it is not.

So we have only $2M in cap room with no QB's under contract except the 7th round draft pick.

Or if we were to sign Dak to that 2nd year tag, we would be at -$36M in cap room (before other cuts & restructures), which would move us to the 4th worst cap situation, according to his list.

And we'd net a high draft pick!

Or worse, we lose the NFCCG like we did in 80, 81, and 82. Dalton is not Dak but he's not garbage either. As much as I liked Danny White, he was not Roger.

Isn't the expected 2021 cap floor 175?
I read a flat cap ceiling of 198 is the tentative plan

Yeah, take predictions like these with a grain of salt. Even if the cap went up the usual 10 million some of these teams would still be in trouble.

The Eagles are an older team that has been paying big money to free agents instead of building through the draft like Dallas has. Dallas will let a Byron Jones walk, the Eagles will pay for one.

For 2021 Philly has 12 players with a cap hit over 10 Million, plus Jason Kelce at 8.5. They have big money contracts with guys like Fletcher Cox (22.5MM) but are paying big money to Darius Slay(15.7MM), Jason Hargrave (15.2MM), Malik Jackson (13.6MM) and they won't pay it but DeSean Jackson is schedule to make 11 Million.

And all of that is before you look at the Cap Hit for Carson Wentz of 34.6 Million HAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Good think Jalen Hurts will only make 2.5 Million !

Ummm.

Our QB could have a cop hit of like $37-38MM next year.

got it-tnx

looking at the site whats causing the problem is the cap is shown as going down from 215 to 175.
if it stays like that every team is going to be having a massive problem next year

If the cap is at that level very few teams will have the resources to sign Prescott let alone their own players they wish to retain. Contracts will go down with possible escalators in future years.

EASY fix really. As long as Dak is willing to play ball. Settle on a 3 year or 4 year deal worth 35 million per year. Basically what Dak wanted. Make the salary for Dak next year a manageable number like 10 million.

This may be why Jones didn't give in. He knew that Dak would lose all bargaining power next offseason. With the cap numbers like they are, virtually no one could afford to pay Dak.

Cowboys NFCCG appearances since 1995: 0
Eagles NFCCG appearances since 1995: 6

I'm not suggesting we throw tons of money around like the Eagles have, but let's not pretend we've had a better approach to roster building the past quarter century.

Our teams have been pretty on par with each other over the last 10 years. In fact, some years I would say that the Cowboys roster has been better.

Big difference? Garrett vs Pederson. No big mystery there.

Spotrac has the Cowboys at 183 million going into 2021. That's also not counting Dak.

Top 51 is at $177M.

I think you'll likely see the NFL and NFLPA get together and adjust next years cap next offseason. The top 3 teams are an entire team's worth of salary cap by themselves. Nobody is going to want to cut that much, particularly not the vets.

The top 3 would be in trouble under normal circumstances.
