I loved Barry! He was just collecting a paycheck by the time we got him, but he was a character! Imagine playing for Jimmy and then for Barry.....like getting out of prison and going to Hawaii. Lol

It’s so hard not to like the guy and respect him as a coach. His personality made him seem like a defuse at times because he did it his own way that no one was used to, but the guy was successful everywhere, and when he is asked a question, you know you’ll get an honest, entertaining answer.

I'll always wonder if Marcus Dupree changed Barry forever. Before that, he was known as a hard-a like most football coaches from that era. Hard to believe for Cowboys fans, but true.

Of course it also makes a huge difference when you walk into a ready-made championship team where the players and assistants aren't "your guys" and you aren't allowed to make meaningful changes.

And Troy Aikman absolutely hated it because when Jimmy left, so did all accountability.

The end of the first segment kind of bugged me because Switzer jokingly admitted that Jerry did not know anything about football, but felt the need to include include him in all important meetings and decisions. Kind of created the monster that we know and love (sarcasm) today.

Switzer was the perfect hire at that time with Norv Turner already gone.

What coach could have possibly followed Jimmy and "run" that team after two championships? Those players would have laughed in their face.

He was successful in college as a recruiter, not as a coach. I'd pose the opposite question to you, how in the world can anyone respect him as a coach? He was terrible.

One of the worst hires after Jimmy was fired, Barry was just going through the motions, the team rapidily fell apart.....

He helped lead us to a Super Bowl win that cemented the Cowboys as the team of the 90s. The players were unhappy that Jimmy was gone and Switzer was able to keep the team together. Our Super Bowl run appeared to be over after the 94 championship game loss to San Francisco but we were able to rebound the next season. The team fell apart because of free agency. We started losing key players every year as teams began raiding our roster. It’s not like any of the other head coaches Jerry hired had any success after Switzer. Don’t understand why Switzer receives so much grief from Cowboys fans, the team could have easily quit on him when he was hired but the Cowboys ended up winning another Super Bowl.

All you had to do is watch the football life on Troy Aikman to see the how Barry wasn't running the show.....Troy said himself, he wasn't he same guy that coached me at Oklahoma....Switzer was collecting a check, that's all he was doing in Dallas, no discipline, no structure, no leadership from the headcoach....

The Cowboys kept getting worse after Switzer left mainly because a free agency. The salary cap was new and we didn’t handle it well and kept losing good players that we couldn’t replace. We went through cap hell for several years and kept losing key players but some put all the blame on our decline on Switzer. The more talent we lost that we couldn’t replace the worse we got.

Granted Switzer had his flaws but Troy was getting frustrated watching his decline and the decline of the team. The point I’m making is Switzer wasn’t the reason the Cowboys began to fall from grace. Go check out the number of key players the Cowboys lost to free agency during Barry Switzer’s tenure as head coach. We were very lucky to win that third Super Bowl. Let’s face it the Cowboys got worse after Barry Switzer left. It’s not like any of the other head coaches Jerry hired turned the team around.

I saw the show but we did win the Super Bowl two years after Barry Switzer took over. Most thought the Cowboys were probably done winning SB’s after they lost the 94 NFC title game. We’ve seen coaches inherit a great team and win a Super Bowl the following year but not two years later. Switzer deserves some credit for keeping the team focused after the 94 NFC title loss to San Francisco and helping us win that third Super Bowl in 95. Compare our 92 roster with our 95 roster and see how many players we lost. We lost at least three starters and a lot of depth.

True.

Jerry tore that super bowl team apart by letting key players walk so he could sign huge stars, Deion being one example. Guys that Jerry let walk: Stepnoski, Casillas, Jimmie Jones, Jeffcoat, James Washington, Harper, Gogan, Ken Norton, Gesek, and Cornish. Jerry did little to replace them. At this point, he was already showing his vast lack of football knowledge.
