The 1960 Cowboys were throw together quickly, after the college draft. They got 36 scrubs from the 12 team expansion draft. Murchison signed Meredith and Perkins before he even had the franchise approved.

It's no wonder it took a few years to get competitive. It was nothing like the Panthers and Jaguars expansion.

This is so cool! Thanks for posting this Hawkeye.

14 is definitely Lebaron, 17 is definitely Meredith. 50 is Jerry Tubbs and 43 is definitely Perkins.

I'll tell ya what's weird. 42 players in that picture. How small were those rosters right?

Weird... when I think about hearing Dandy Don sing that, I also get an image in my head of me playing with my metal Tonka toy trucks.

I still remember staying up watching the games, with my brothers. And our mom saying we needed to get to bed for school but never forced us to go to bed. She was cool about it. After 5 or 6 games she gave up, as we stayed up after midnight (EST). We always got up for school though.

Here's your chance Mr. Smarty ( LOL). How many players can you name? Ain't gonna lie, I can't name one. I think #44 is Perkins. In fact, I can only name one coach.......Landry.

What a great photo. And that team did not win a game. America’s team did not have a great start to its storied history.

BTW, let me recommend a great book to anyone interested in Cowboys early history: “Reflections”, by Bob Lily. It’s an old book, published in the early 70s, but super interesting. Apparently, Lily was a serious photographer and he took some great pictures at training camp, post game locker rooms, etc. Really insightful.

It’s weird to see someone wearing number 74 not named Bob Lilly. That wouldn’t happen today unless you had a ton of people in training camp and then that number would get reassigned once the season started

I think 14 is Eddie LaBaron and 17 is Don Meredith and 82 could be Frank Clark only from seeing videos from early games. I don't think Don Perkins got to the Cowboys until 1962 but I could be wrong.

#83 TE/Jim Doran was the first TE in franchise history, first Pro Bowler in franchise history, and scored the first TD in franchise history. And from there they just got better with names like Ditka, Dupree, Smith, Cosbie, Novacek, and Witten. Pretty good legacy of TEs.
You are right.

Great Legacy of QBs from LeBaron, Meredith, Staubach, White, Aikman, Romo, and Prescott.

Don Perkins was one of the original Cowboys. He’s number 43 right there in the front row
