Stands to reason Hill will be on a short leash and needs to gave a perfect camp. He very well could be cut.
Short leash? Probably. Cut? Very unlikely. You don't draft a project at 58 and cut him just 16 months later. That's just stupid.

Not sure why you brought up Taco. He has nothing to do with this thread. Except he could have prevented all the additions at DE if he would have been a playmaker.

I don't see any reason to cut depth. Injuries happen every year.

Crawford, until it is otherwise proven, is the fourth-best DE on the team and third-best DT.
You don’t pay DE4/DT3 $9.1M.

I’ve got 8 million reasons to cut him. It’s called rollover cap space.

do you remember when the NYG were sliding DE jason tuck inside in nickel packages to create mismatches vs pass ..and he'd give our interior blockers in Gurode. Leonard Davis and Kyle Koller (sp) all kind of hell on earth .. ??
Yep... their NASCAR package. It won them a super bowl by beating better teams in Dallas, Green Bay and a historic New England.

That pass rush was brutal for them.

People have been screaming for these things to happen for the last 10 years. I get why JG didnt like bringing in guys. him and Marinelli thought they could develop some players. But you have to have the right mix and they just never seemed to get that right mix of young guys and FA's that could help your team and not break the bank and not be a progress stopper.

I don't care about your cap space. Having players you can put out there and not be a liability is more important. Fans worry too much about the money.

When Crawford isn't needed, he can be cut. If that's before the season starts, that would be great because it does save the team cap dollars. If no one steps up to be a bona fide part of the rotation or a player we can trust to step in and not be a liability, then it's better to keep him.

Let me ask you this: You trust Hill to take over at 3-tech if something were to happen to McCoy? You going to pencil in Gallimore even though he hasn't taken an NFL snap? How about one of the DEs; you going to make them a full-time 3-tech and hope they can survive the beating?

My answer to this may change depending on what Hill and Gallimore show in practices. However, without a preseason, it's going to be hard to assess if they can step in if needed.

Ok....I'll go ahead and say it....I would have signed Clowney instead. Was just about to make a post yesterday saying...how can you pass up defensive end rotation like this?

LDE- Lawrence/Aldon Smith
RDE-Clowney/Gregory

I would have even cut Crawford to just make room....

Honestly....Not a big fan of this move. This just stinks of Greg Hardy 2.0.....

And I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up being more of a DT...in a 3rd down pass rushing situation. I know I'm not getting my hopes up.
