Yep, I'd gladly bring him in if everything checks out. By that I mean price.

Dallas is going to have cap issues next season so they can't be giving ET a hell of a lot. Maybe there are people here more cap savvy than I, and can tell me I am worried about nothing, but what I see is concerning.

Defensive backs Chido, Lewis, and Woods are all playing on the last year of their contracts without extensions. The same can be said about Dak. New Contracts hit the cap harder than extensions, what is Jerry doing? Does he intend to clean house of our DBs?

Connor Williams, Gallup, and LVE will all be up for an extension after this season. He could wait an extra year for LVE and might have to. But now Jerry is stuck with trying to extend players and giving other players like Dak and any DBs he wants to keep new contracts at the same time. He could have and should have staggered these contracts. Now all this talk about signing ET just complicates matters further.

Likely the only guys getting a new contract out of this six guys would be Gallup and LVE. No way they pay two receivers $20 million+ so if they pay Gallup they will cut Cooper to afford him. And with LVE's injury issues hopefully you can get him on a team - friendly deal. Anyone else that stays would definitely be on a team - friendly deal.

So since he is cut, isn’t he paid already his full salary from Baltimore? Therefore, whatever Dallas gives him doesn’t ultimately affect how much money Earl takes home, correct?

That means even if we give him the minimum, he is still making his full salary from Baltimore. At least, that is my understanding of how it worksz

Baltimore is gonna try to get out of paying that money.

He’s at the end of his career.

he needs to sign as many guaranteed contracts as possible.

find a way to get released as soon as possible.

sign another.

rinse.

repeat.

That'd be a solid plan if guarantees couldn't be negated and a lot of teams would be willing to give him guarantees. Guarantees can be voided, and I'm not sure there's a front office that would guarantee anything beyond the current year. They'd be stupid to do so.

I'm petty sure Cooper is on the roster next year. He's out in 2022.

The odd thing here is there is literally zero news on any interest at all across the nfl....

makes me wonder if he is now viewed as damaged goods bc of the issues with Baltimore....

If so, jerry and co should play it cool and give it a little time and let him feel the pressure to take a more reasonable offer...even with that there is risk here

ET being available would have been great news about 4-5 years ago.

He's 31 now, not the player he once was, and in the past couple months has been involved in:

**Being held at gunpoint by his wife
**A fistfight with a teammate

We'll overpay for him, crank up the hype machine to convince everyone that *this time* it's going to work out in our favor, and ultimately end up regretting it.
Greg Hardy redux.
I'm not a fan of bringing him in, but who was the last outside free agent we overpaid? If anything, people have complained that we've been too cheap.

The fact is that the Cowboys have been repeatedly been getting shockingly good deals on their free agents.

None of the people running their mouths about 'overpaying' ever thought the team would be signing successful, high profile free agents for the low costs that they have. They're just noise.

What's he supposed to say? His guys in the back half are absolute garbage? They look like the Normangee Middle School B Team back there? Good luck enjoying any of the games guys, because we a re so screwed?
I was thinking the same thing. It's a message board, of course there is going to be opposing views on every topic.

Agree 100%.

I think the front office has done an amazing job lately with what they've paid for good talent. I would take this new approach every year, even if it means not getting some guys that I would personally want. It's a solid way of doing business.

I know how a lot feel about the Jones boys, but they get a very high grade in this department from me.

As well they should. They've earned it this year. But some people can't separate frustration in one area from doing well in another area. Because they don't like the Joneses, that means that they can't acknowledge anything they do right.

Jerry is about to go on the Fan now for those interested.

Supposedly he "wants" them to ask Earl questions and has permitted Dallas media to tweet on what he has to say (because practice is going on).
