Jerry says he hasn't given up on Earl Thomas deal

My total speculation... fwiw, maybe nothing.

It is still ringing in Jerry's head that he's said the word "grace" about a hundred times in the last few weeks. And he can't help but apply the principle if he sees any sliver of a reason to apply it.

They wanted the player for so very, very long. They obviously really, really like the player.

But now they're in a situation where they have to measure and evaluate this new evidence that he could be a Greg Hardy repeat.

Extend grace and assume the best?

Or remember lessons from the Greg Hardy ordeal?

It will be interesting to see what happens.
And I come back to this question- what has Jerry learned the last 25 years about building a championship roster? Serious question.

Kind of weird when your point has to make an assumption just to be a point.

Where do you see the HC doesnt want ET?
If the HC is trying out back up CB's at safety to see if anyone can step up and learn the position 2-3 weeks before the season starts then he clearly wants a better option at safety.
Have you read about why Balt got rid of him?

Jerry, just shut up. I mean, even if you want to sign the deal, just shut up and do it. Don't show up your front office or Coaching Staff. I mean, how many years is it going to take to learn that one simple lesson?

I don't get it......

Thank god fans aren’t running personnel although Jerry seem to think like a fan. Too many fans see talent alone and do not take into account other factors that need to go into whether or not a guy is worth signing.

My opinion of ET is he is a bigger headache than his aging overpriced talent is worth. If you can’t fit in with Pete Carrol and John Harbaugh, two of the most player friendly coaches in this league, something else is at play. Thomas played pretty well last year. So for Balt to decide he has to go says a lot about his locker room problems. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
ET fit in just fine with Pete Carrol.
He played there for 8 seasons. He didn't leave because he couldnt get along. He left because he became a free agent.
If he was such a problem in Seattle he would be a cowboy today and they would have gladly taken our 2nd round pick. You don't turn down a second round pick for a guy you want off the team.

We don't know what happened in baltimore. It could just be a bad fit and a clash of personalities.

Why does he need to shut up, and who has he shown up......? Nobody from the team has come out and said anything either way and neither did Jerry

We do know what happened. He sucker punched a popular teammate. He was criticized by his own teammates for not taking coaching last year. They wanted him out.

Jerry was quiet upset when Rapoport said the cowboys were not interested in ET. Jerry says the man standing right here hasn't determined that, meaning himself. lol

I guess it only took a couple of months for Jerry-meddling to begin. he just can't help himself and he is playing fantasy football again. if thomas is going to mess up team chemistry. then we end up losing not winning. team chemstry is very very very important aspect of any team (sports and non-sports). now he is forcing himself into the equation and that's the fastest way to screw things up....leave good alone jerry. stay out of it.

Is this a serious post? He's shown up Steven because his job is Director of Player Personnel. He's shown up his new HC because his job is to evaluate the teams needs and establish himself as the last word on who sees the field. And honestly, this really should not have to be explained. How can you not understand this or see this?

I read speculation yes. Just as you have.
Where did you read McCarthy doesnt want ET and Jerry is making him look bad?

If McCarthy isnt interested in ET after hearing him trying out CB's at safety then their is something wrong with McCarthy. McCarthy saying we are comfortable with our roster is the right thing to say. When has a coach said anything different? If he came out and said too much then we would be yelling about how we had to overpay for ET.

IF Jerry Jones wants Earl Thomas in Dallas, Earl Thomas will be in Dallas...
and that's the problem. I thought year 1 would be honeymoon period where he would stay the heck out of coaching decisions...took him what, like 3 months to get back in there and start meddling.

did he ask the coaches? what did they say?

1. Hire Will McClay
2.
3.
4.
5. Hire Mike McCarthy
6.
7.
8.
Both good hires. I just wish he would give them the power most NFL owners do. He seems to start with assumption that he must be convinced to go against his instincts instead of starting with the assumption that the guys he hired know more than he does.

And I come back to this question- what has Jerry learned the last 25 years about building a championship roster? Serious question.

All due respect, I'm not sure how serious it can be, actually. It's an incredibly broad question to attempt to give a balanced, reasoned answer, and I for one don't have the time since I'm here at work.

Suffice it to say, regarding this particular decision, I'll likely never know all that Jerry will know about all the variables involved, and even he won't necessarily know enough about the variables involved. So, far be it for me to pretend that I can sit in judgment on Jerry on this one. Others, I might. Not anything like this, though, where there are character variables involved and recent incidents that have to be assessed.

That goes for any owner and any fan base in any situation like this, not just this one here and now.

Its very concerning when your owner is asked about Earl Thomas and he starts talking about how they are trying CB's at safety.
Holy crap folks. Our safety position is much worse than we thought.

Everyone saying they wold pass on ET will be the same ones on here yelling and calling Jerry an idiot once the season starts and our safeties are getting torched out there.

We don't have a guy on this roster who should be starting at safety in this league.
but this doesn't mean that ET is the answer. he is on the older side. has lost some of his skills and apparantley now the second team he has caused team chemistry issues. team chemistry is much more important than individual talent. if his teammates don't trust him, it doesn't matter.

According to McCarthy they had a house meeting to discus ET.

What more do you want?

No, this is not how it went. He wanted a contract with Seattle. Seattle made him honor his deal, which is almost unheard of in this day and age. BTW, I don't really have a problem with that but bottom line is that Seattle made him play it out instead of extending him and he ended up suffering a major injury. That left bad blood so things were not a good fit in Seattle the entire time. He absolutely left because he didn't want to be in Seattle.

Baltimore voted him off the team. That is what happened, according to reports. This was not a decision from the GM or Personnel guy. The team voted him off.

He didnt have chemistry issues is Seattle. He had contract issues.

A future HOF Earl Thomas is absolutely a huge upgrade over anyone on this roster.
We are working our depth chart CB's at safety and trying out people who are not even safeties 3 weeks before the season starts.
How is ET not the answer?

Whats even the question then?

and sounds like stephen and MC weren't interested...but jerry didn't like their answer so he is going rogue...again....and that has worked oh so well over the past 25 years, and the 10 NFCCG appearances and the 4 superbowls....

I agree with you. Probably because nothing you said contradicts any of my points.

Seattle was over money. Saying that baltimore voted him off the team really doesnt move me. Like I said it sounds like a clash of personalities between him and a few of the other team leaders.
