FRISCO, Texas – Two and a half weeks into training camp, it's clear why the Cowboys drafted Trevon Diggs in the second round.

In recent days, the rookie cornerback has been among the most productive defensive players inside Ford Center at The Star. Short-term injuries to Jourdan Lewis (ankle) and Chidobe Awuzie (knee) have meant more reps against the Cowboys' talented receivers.

Diggs has responded, and his confidence seems to be growing as the Sept. 13 season opener at the Rams draws closer.

"The NFL is a lot different from college. I'm just trying to get adjusted and just staying focused," he said. "I feel like by me doing that each day and every week, you're always getting better. Just trying to keep my head down and keep working and stay focused to reach that main goal."
Diggs and the Cowboys' rookie class didn't get to build toward their first professional camp. The nation's COVID-19 crisis canceled organized team activities normally scheduled for late May and early June.

You might say the first week of camp in mid-August qualified as Diggs' rookie minicamp against veteran starters -- specifically, 1,000-yard receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. The speed of practice probably has been Diggs' biggest adjustment.

Through it all, the coaching staff has liked his approach.

"We're liking the effort and the attitude that he's bringing forth and the playmaking ability," defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist said. "This game is all about improvement. It's all about development. You're going to have your ups and downs. You're going to take lumps. It's just can we consistently take steps in the right direction to continually try to be the best player we can be.

"We're excited about where he is right now. We just know we've got a lot of work ahead of us."

shocking. draft a healthy player with good film from an elite program and he looks like he just might work out.

if only we could figure out why drafting cripples with questionable tape from D12 schools doesn't work out. darn it, that's a mystery right there.

I always try and curtail my excitement and enthusiasm about a rook,, but its really hard to do this year with this draft.
Diggs is going to be special, early.

I agree. I think he will have his ups and down. Just remember all CB get burned but great ones put it behind them and move and will make big plays as well within the game.

Trying not to get to excited, but Diggs just looks to be a "natural".
That rare talent that fits early and just knows the game.

Diggs sounds like a starter to me. Diggs, Biadasz, and Lamb could be our three rookie starters by the end of the season.
I got to thinking about Biadasz getting the start half way into the season. That would mean Looney is terrible and hurting the offense. OL is about chemistry more then anything. If Biadasz is eventually the starter this year they should do it in practice now and let him start week 1.

This is true. But.........walter football said he loses confidence if he gets beat though. And just seeing his on/off field demeanor its believable. But we'll see

Diggs turned the tide into his favor from his earliest exploits in training camp.
This tells us that he's listening to his coaching and developing nicely.

Yes it would. I think it may take longer for Reggie Robinson to accomplish that. He's surely not getting the number of reps that Diggs is. It's totally understandable, though, since they differed somewhat in where they were taken in the draft. I'm hoping Reggie finds his success at safety. :)

It also didn't hurt that he spent the summer working out with his brother. Not every rookie has a Pro Bowl wide receiver that they can practice against in the off season.

And our safeties are turning my stomach.

Seems you're not the only one but the staff thinks Darian Thompson has come a long way in improving his standing there.

I guess we'll see if that's accurate once the season commences. If he doesn't do the trick, perhaps Reggie Robinson will?!

Guys, it's training camp, every draft pick in the league from Joe Burrow to Tae Crowder (Mr. Irrelevant) is "turning heads" at camp.
