Well, I disagree with Aikman here. Taking that quote for face value, Aikman is absolutely wrong. Then again, I believe if Aikman had another chance to say this.. he’d choose another word, like anticipation.

Accuracy most certainly can be taught. Tell a beginner to make a free throw, He prob misses the first attempt. Tell a kid to practice 1k shots, he surely improves his accuracy.

That said.. Yes, hand eye coordination plays a major part in ones development.. what sets folks apart is anticipating the right moment to make the throw. This anticipation is the hardest thing to coach bc it involves the mental makeup of the guy throwing the ball. Coach that all you want.. but it’s the QB that has the timer set to release the ball.

A guy has to be careful about making the type of comments like Troy's. It can oftentimes be improved but the question also comes into best perspective as to how much it can change. There are so many variables that enter into the case of each individual. Sometimes, subtle changes can mean a great deal in improving a QB's accuracy, imho. I think Dak has managed to improve his incrementally each year. I fervently hope that progress continues. ;)

teams pretty much set their rosters already and a 3rd qb for development and depth most likely best shot but not his season..hes better off trying to take this year off get with a qb coach/Trainer and show the NFL he wants a shot in 2021 as starter..its bit late for 2020 IMHO

on Rosen himself much like other qbs with promise that end up on teams with bad lines and not much talent etc you get gun shy, happy feet, and no confidence..you need to regain this to get another shot..sometimes a break is the best medicine..

He is only signed through 2020 so if Dallas were to claim him off waivers his base salary is $3.7M which is far too high for a #3 QB. That said, if Rosen were to agree to an extension through 2021 wherein his current base salary is split between those 2 seasons ($1.85M each season) then perhaps he would be worth the #3 QB role seeing as how Andy Dalton is only signed to a 1-year deal and Dak is on a 1-year franchise tag.

Josh Rosen

6' 4" 226 pounds 23 years old

20 Games 16 Starts 3-13 Career Starting Record

275 Completions 502 Attempts 54.8% Completion % 2,845 Yards 12 TD's 19 Int's 61x Sacked

26 Rushes 151 Yards 11 Fumbles

Clearly his stats and record as a starter are not good to say the least but he played 1 season for a really bad Arizona team then was traded to a really bad Miami team. His confidence took a major hit after being drafted so high but under the right tutelage he might be able to show something.

A few years ago Troy Aikman was on the matt mosley ed werder podcast and he said from all his studying Josh Rosen was the most prepared to play in the nfl and would be the best of the bunch from his draft.
Being a great QB and broadcaster doesn’t mean you are a great scout of players
I always wonder why so many here think Troy would be a great GM
That said how a player is developed effects his career. Getting the right coaching and support means much more than some think

He was drafted in 2018. His rookie contract should take him through 2021. I think he still has to play on that regardless of what team he plays for. That would mean he wouldn't be eligible for an extension until after the 2020 season.

If Rosen had been drafted by a good team, with good coaching, and given time to develop, his career might have been much different.

Instead he got drafted by a horrible team, and was immediately thrown into the fire. No surprise he wasn't an instant savior.

I remember another TE bust around that time frame,, Eric Bjornson ..sp..
Was he before LaFlop or after?
Eric Bjornson was not a bust.

He was a 4th round pick that was with the team for 5 years then played for New England in 2000. That's above average for a 4th round pick. Most don't even make the team.

Eric Bjornson
4th round pick
Career Stats
Receptions: 147
Receiving Yards: 1,384

David LaFleur
1st round pick
Career Stats
Receptions: 85
Receiving yards: 729

This is bad.......no way around it. Notice some are saying he got a bad deal. I'm not sure, true talent has a way of rising above that. My point is, maybe this kid never had NFL talent.
Yeah, not sure why so many are making excuses for him. It's more likely that he just isn't any good.

To his credit, it does sound like Rosen has grown up a lot. Being around Fitzpatrick helped him
It's just that Miami has no need for him, at all.

On top of his 3.7 million salary this year, he would also have had a 1.4 mil roster bonus. That's expensive for a 3rd string QB

I agree.

I wouldn’t mind stashing him on the PS. Dalton is a one year rental and everybody at JMU couldn’t wait until Nooch left.

Could be a nice reclamation project for Big Mike.
Yea I wish we could stash him but idk I think the cost is a roster spot, prob 2 or 3 years to really develop him with some stability. Dalton is a 1 year rental and Dinucci who knows....I’m good with 4 qbs if we get Nooch and Rosen

I didn't understand the fascination with Rosen in college and he's done nothing in the NFL. Two teams drafted first round QBs a year after acquiring him.

That doesn't happen by accident.

Most 4th round picks don't make the team? I think you know you're wrong there.

Aikman provided similar insights on David LaFleur.

Actually LaFleur was on the verge of becoming a very good player before his back gave out. Had seven touchdowns in 1999 and was a big target with above average speed. He just had the misfortune of being drafted by a dying dynasty and then getting injured. He was a bust, but it wasn't all his fault.
