I have a treadmill and free weights in my basement so I work out there. I find the convenience makes it so easy to get my *** down there to work out regularly. I focus on cardio rather than weights at my age I am not going to ever look like Rambo but I do try to keep my strength up.

I read somewhere, and I am not saying this is fact, but I read bike riding could be bad for older men, especially with some of the seats they put on bikes today. It has something to do with prostate problems. I think that has to do with if you have an existing condition such as an enlarged prostate. If you do it may be painful to ride for a prolonged period of time. Generally speaking, cycling is a better exercise than jogging/running, particularly for those that are older because it’s less impactful on the body (particularly the knees and hips).

Having young children around is also a good reasom to avoid unnecessary exposure

What kind of equipment are you planning on getting? Going weight sets, a home gym machine (Bowflex type thing) or both.

Ive found that while those home gym sytems arent get for pure weight training, they work very well for lower intensity circuit training

Not going to go crazy, but the Peloton bike, dumbbells (adjustable ones to save space https://www.bowflex.com/selecttech/1090/710000.html) and an adjustable flat bench. My wife has a few kettle bells she uses. Home Depot sells some gym floor tiles I’ll probably lay down to not damage the floor and reduce the sounds.

Yeah, I would agree with you on some of the home gym systems. Although, I haven’t shopped around for one I’m sure there are ones available for serious weight training too. At this point in my life I just want to be in decent shape to go snowboarding, lol.

Let me know how the adjustable bowflex dumbbells are.

They are cheaper and obviously take up less space than a full dumbbell set. So they have always intrigued me.

There are bikes at my gym (which I prefer) that don't have bicycle seats, per se, and they're much more comfortable.

After my knee surgery 15 years ago, I did a good deal of my rehab on a Home Gym. It impressed me how versatile such a simple device could be. Therapy bands and a Home Gym is all I needed.

I have a exercise bloke, a punching bag , some dumbbells and a few weightplates. I've noticed since the pandemic started a lot of stores have sold out of their dumbells and other home fitness equipment. One of the main reasons I could see going to the gym
Is if your into heavy barbell exercises like squats and deadlifts. I think rogue fitness sells different types of bars and power /squat racks for home gyms but I think they are fairly expensive

I would really like to ditch my treadmill for a bike or elliptical for these reasons. I've torn my MCL in each knee in my crazier younger days. While I'm not handicapped by any means, they can flare up on me from time to time with impact.

We just got an email from Peloton today saying they are going to refund us ~$345 because they are set to reduce the cost of the bikes (we haven’t gotten ours yet). Maybe that’s some added incentive for you to buy one?

Prior to COVID I had a adjustable weight bench(incline/decline/flat), a cable setup and adjustable dumbbells. Since Covid hit I've gotten a rogue squat rack and more free weights. Can do a lot at home now. Doubt I'm going to a gym again

Still would like a cardio machine for when the Florida weather just plain sucks and I don't want to run/bike.

@CalPolyTechnique the 1090's are very good. I have had them for 1.5 years and no issues. Even with some minor drops.
Got lucky last year and got them for 20% off. Now they are stupid priced

I’ve always thought about getting a bow flex. Never pulled the trigger though.

I have also long thought about just getting a nice dumbbell set and quality adjustable bench.

Even at the gym I always preferred using dumbbells to workout over any machine or other set up. But again I’ve never pulled the trigger in purchasing for home.

I've got the Bowflex Selecttech 1090 dumbbells and the Bowflex Selecttech 4.1 bench and I love them. They're a little hard to rack when you've got a lot of weight on them but that would be my only complaint. They make a barbell and curl bar now that I'd love to have. I've also got a Stamina power tower for dips, pull ups, chin ups, leg raises, etc. Lastly my favorite piece is my CanDo 30lb dual handle medicine ball. I carry it all over the house with me. I use it while I'm watching water boil, during commercials, between chapters of a book, a few minutes before work, and any other time I can find 5 minutes. You can do an endless amount of exercises with one little ball.

Awesome. Thanks for the review. The dumbbell system works good? No issues with the dial or anything getting stuck or causing problems?

No issues at all with them. I wouldn't however waste you money on the Bowflex bench. They're no better than what you could find at an Academy or ***** and cost a lot more. Mine came in a package deal or I wouldn't have paid for it either.

Peleton to me would be so cool when you see in TV but when you get it it stays in the garage taking up space. Also that is a lot of money to buy ,you better live on a Peleton if you do.
