An underlying aspect of signing Carr

Read an article today about ET possibly being signed after week 1. It mentioned the fact that Carr was brought in as vet help. Got me thinking:

We know Carr. Respect him as an organization. Know the kind of player and man that he is. Is it possible we brought him in to— yes, provide some vet depth at a thin position— but also potentially to get his take from the inside of the Balt locker room on the ET situation?

Could be interesting to see what transpires. For me, I am alright either way. If we add him after week 1, the risk is pretty minimal. He could help us for sure. That said if Big Mike wants to protect the culture then I completely respect that as well.

Anyway— just mulling on that this morning. Have a great weekend everybody and enjoy the game tomorrow! Go Cowboys!!

I think Earl gets signed but it really has nothing to do with Carr. I mean Carr is quality depth at a couple of positions if someone gets hurt. Especially with this short offseason and soft tissue injuries being a real threat.

I'm not sure We needed to sign Him to canvass His opinion on ET.
I think a nice dinner and some subtle probing (of the verbal not the alien variety) would have done the trick.

There are always two sides to a story. The Balt locker room has spoken loudly about their feelings about ET.

Asking ET about what happened would result in ET defending himself and promising to be a good soldier in Dallas. He wants to play and get paid after all.

Carr really represents an interesting perspective as he no longer has to maintain organizational loyalty to Balt and can speak freely about his opinions without throwing anyone under the bus.

If the issue really is that ET is a cancer— Carr will let JJ know not only bc he is back in our locker room as a player— but also bc there is a good history between Dallas and Carr.

Likewise— if ET got done dirty up there, Carr can plead his case and help open the door for him to get an opportunity here. Either way— I believe the homework has been done on ET and I have peace with whatever happens.

I have not MM state that. He just said he is happy with the 80 we have. Then he promptly cut Ha Ha— which begs the question— how happy is he really with the safety position?

When McCarthy said he likes interchangeable safeties, that's not Thomas........If McCarthy wanted Thomas, he'd be on the roster already, but I think there more to his negative locker room presence that we don't know about...we do know Jerry would have signed him long ago but it seems pretty clear to me McCarthy told Jerry he doesn't want him..

I think no doubt ET gets signed after week one and I hope it’s us but if not I like Woods and Wilson but not sure why Wilson hasn’t taken the next step to secure a starting spot with almost no competition.
Wondering what's up with Wilson myself.

He has some skills. Disappointing.

Hopefully he is making progress, just couldnt win the job on practice only, and that's fair.

The concerning part is that I refuse to buy that the light went on for Thompson under the same circumstances. If Wilson isnt clearly better than him I'm not sure what to say.

Well at least after Sunday we will find out whether we can out this ET nonsense to bed as he’s signed or no interest.....I don’t see this going much further after the guarantee aspect is done.

McCarthy doesn't want Earl Thomas on this team..
At this point I think the entire organization is on board with seeing what they have back there.

Maybe they can get away w things by mixing up coverages, and a better rush.

It would be wrong of MM to completely dismiss the idea of Thomas coming in, but I can see where there may be some hesitation.

You beat me to it. I was literally going to type the exact thing (even about dinner). lol

Back to ET, I'm waiting to see what happens on Sunday. I'm willing to bet if our safeties/secondary get picked on by Goff and co. that the ET chatter gets louder.

This is exactly what I'd been thinking from the moment we brought Carr in. We know Carr is a stand up guy and he'd no motive to be anything but honest about the situation up in Baltimore. If we end up signing ET, I think we can be confident that Carr vouched for him in some way, or at least didn't reinforce the negative stories. In turn, if we stay from from ET, we can safely assume Carr corroborated that what went on was as bad as it seemed. I am not saying that Carr's opinion is the only one that would swing the decision, but I feel like it plays a pretty big role.

He was signed because he can play CB and S and was willing to do the week to week up and down, cut and be resigned practice squad thing all year. I’m sure somewhere along the line someone has asked his take on ETs time in Baltimore but that’s not why they signed him. I have settled on the opinion that everything is all quiet on the ET front because he has a deal in place with Dallas that will be signed next Mon or Tue. That’s why his camp is so quiet and doesn’t even appear to be looking for a team.

I firmly believe that MM considers Carr to be a veteran presence and mentor for this young secondary, and he can still play .... good HCs make this move.
