Conversations with general managers, agents and team contract negotiators revealed a consensus about both the magnitude of the Cowboys' mistake with this negotiation -- several sources independently suggested it will cost owner Jerry Jones roughly $40M -- and general agreement about how it will impact the team in years to come.

I do think it was gross negligence for the Cowboys not to get this deal done while he was on his rookie deal. The front office over played its hand this time and it will cost them more in the long run.

You should be ashamed of yourself for posting this as legit information. No names of anyone in that article. And this gem:

"No matter how you slice it, Jerry made a $40 million mistake," said one "prominent agent".....

Who? Dak's?

It remains to be seen how much this will cost. Frankly...I'm okay with 40 million...because that would mean we're winning. You have a problem with that?

Some of our fanbase too ignorant & have so much hate on Dak that they just don't think it was Garrett for all those 8-8 seasons. How quickly they've forgotten Garrett gave Romo 8-8 seasons as well.

The two best quarterbacks since Aikman & Garrett completely wasted them.

First, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that QB salaries go up every year. When was Jerry supposed to sign him and what tactic was he supposed to use to force a Dak to sign? The one thing no one mentions is that signing Dak at anytime over the previous two years would have been a huge gamble. Yeah, he was solid but not spectacular and there was not too much team success to speak of. Giving him the money he was asking for would have been a massive gamble. I’d much rather make him earn it, prove he is worth it, and pay more than over pay him and be saddles with a highly paid average QB for 4-5 years.

Easy to criticize after the fact, but many of these same media forces also argued against 35 million a season that he wasn't worth it.

I don't know exactly where the final contract offer ended up and what the final sticking point was, but Dak is playing the season on a prove it deal. If he balls out it's great for the franchise, if not they don't have to worry about taking on a crippling contract. If there was any doubt about Dak as a franchise QB the cost to get out would be much greater than 40 million proposed. In reality, a 4 year contract extension will likely cost 20 million more if he balls out.

I love how they are saying its a 40 million mistake

but when Dak was asking for 40 mil, ya'll were calling him greedy, crazy, arrogant, and all sorts of names. Saying 35 mil was still overpaying. Now we are suppose to believe that oh 35 was a steal? Ya'll got some memory loss.

We might go to the big dance. Dak might recognize the importance of surrounding cast and be more amenable to deal that gives fo room to be flexible with others. None of us really knows. I sent dak a pie. Apple.

Remains to be seen... These articles are fluff.. Needed to keep new content on the sites. More about traffic to websites than actually being useful content.

why are people so opposed to letting the season play out? Dak has all the support any young QB could ask for, and if we're going to get duds far too often we might as well spend those available funds to continue supporting whatever QB we my have rather than just overpay Dak

Or they saved 100 million plus if Dak proves to be average again this season

Since he hasn't been average during any season, that's unlikely.

The handling of Dak may be the worst front office decision ever, and that's saying something.

Cam Newton looks mighty good for what he cost the patriots . A 30+ mil saving if the cowboys had signed him , plus he lead his team to a super bowl .

Let’s see what dak can do after the last excuse is gone ( jason Garrett ) and the offense is buzzing with talent .
