We go short on LBs and lose LVE while Lee is on IR.
We trust in our 2 excellent OTs, bringing in no quality backup and Collins goes on IR, so we start an undrafted OT and his crappy backup gets hurt on a kick.
We go with “hope” at TE, along with JAGs, and the unproven hope is gone for the season.
We bring in the beef at DT and sign every FA DE we can find, and start a mostly new secondary, but we can’t stop the run, the screen, the TEs or just about anything else.
We send the “bend but don’t break” DC packing and bring in a new guy who believes in disguise, stunts, blitzes, and creating turnovers, but our defense forces only 2-3 punts and spends more time on the field than ever.
We sign our stud WR, add another WR in round 1, but 1 runs a 4th down and 3 route a yard short, 1 drops a key first down pass down the stretch, and the OL can’t block well enough for anyone to run crossing routes or down field.
we bring in a new offensive playcalling, super bowl winning head coach who decides not to call plays, but then goes for it in the 4th quarter on 4th and 3 instead of kicking the short tying FG when the offense is getting few opportunities due to the defense....and the guy he let’s call the plays calls the critical play designed for the rookie wr who ran it a yard short, the same play caller who called the final pass play of 2019 with the playoffs on the line with his best receivers on the sideline.
You just cannot make this stuff up.
That said, many teams with new coaching staffs and new starters lost today. TB was destroyed by a team with continuity at every position. Dallas will get better. However, anytime either of our OTs are out, it will be a challenge, and our LB play will be suspect until Lee returns. The secondary? I’m not sure they even know what they’re doing. Nolan better coach em up fast because Atlanta and Seattle (next two opponents) loved what they saw tonight.
