Move him to MLB and go back to a Tampa 2? He seems to move around well enough. And he is big enough to play the middle.

He's better at the point of attack. Especially off the snap.
The guys we have now seem to give up a lot of ground before making a tackle. Maybe it’s just a different scheme idk. Or a new way of tackling. But I remember when Ro McClain was playing MLB he played it well. I feel like Aldon can do the same. Also we aren’t equipped for a multi defense.

lmao

Yes, what this defense needs is Aldon Smith carrying receivers 30 yards down the seam.

This forum is on another planet today.
Nah we just need Jaylon Smith escorting every RB through the gap. Maybe we should give him some wine and cheese. Give them the nice Dallas defense treatment...

Never fails, a guy plays well at one position we want to move him to another, we finally get quality depth and we want to trade it. Sometimes reading these threads are the only thing that can lighten the mood after a tough loss.:)
This is the game of football. Moving plotting scheming...some people like to discuss that aspect of the game.

I too am tired of watching Jaylon Smith making tackles 8 yards from the LOS. But moving Smith isn't the answer
He doesn’t seem like he was rushing the passer at a extremely high level he played well held the edge and played with high IQ. If anything Gregory still seems like a better fit at that position anyways. And Lawrence isn’t moving to MLB. IMO Aldon proved he can handle the middle. You are right about your statement which is why LA beat us in T.O.P.

What could go wrong?

1. He's never played MLB before.
2. He has been an OLB in a 3-4 with different responsibilities
3. Playing MLB takes away his strength of blowing up OL at the POA.
4. Each down he isn't rushing the passer or setting the edge is a wasted down.
5. Doesn't seem like an easy transition from DE/DT at 287, and then asking him to be the middle range coverage LB at times.

1. We aren’t asking him to play CB/FS
2. He does those very well, which indicates maybe he can take on a little more.
3. He can blow up the M. Browns of the world. Which seem to be a problem with this defense. Remember the LA playoff game. I do. Sunday night seemed all to familiar.
4. We have other pass rushers he isn’t getting to 20+ sacks. If he did. I’d gladly eat my words.
5. it isn’t. He likely wouldn’t make a pro bowl. But he would stop the bleeding in the run game from the middle of the field.

He is an edge rusher be it 4-3 or 3-4 he is not a guy who is going to drop into coverage. Talk about taking a square peg and trying to force it in a round hole.

1. He'll be a liability in the passing game unless you switch him down to DE on passing downs or have him blitz.
2. Does what well? Not following you there. He last played OLB 5 years ago at ~260. So far in this defense he's been strictly a DL.
3. If he can read the play correctly from the MLB spot. He's been an edge guy all his playing career. It's not the same as a MLB. Different gap assignments.
4. 20+ sacks is a very high standard. 10+ from a guy who hasn't played in 5 years would be huge. Gregory is another guy TBD and Griffen is a good DE. However, Smith in his prime was/is the best passrusher on this team bar none.
5. The new base is a 4-2-5, aka the nickel. Having a 287lb DE as a linebacker with much more responsibilities sounds like a Madden move tbh.
