I thought Conner got the better of Donald early on on several plays but as the game wore on Williams and Steele both began to cave. Made it worse by Martin also having a bad game as well so 3/5 had subpar to awful games. I remember some in twitter over the offseason saying there was concern in the organization about Martin’s injuries the last 2 years and playing through them a lot of games was starting to take it’s toll on him.

Of all things to rag on, CW is way down the list. He did ok. Not great bout not bad. Disappointing to me:
Coaching
Dlaw
Injuries
Dak second half
Over all defense
Positives:
Zeke
Smith
Smith
Cooper

ok :
CD
Woods
Right Tackle whomever
Pollard
Willams
Williams
Wait what?

donald pressure rate was 18% on the year. his pressure rate was 36% against us.

How did he do ok? What would be bad? 80% pressure rate?

I have been negative on CW. Real negative. I thought he had a good game against the Rams.

You guys know it was the Sunday night game, right? Williams is 52.

Dunno if I agree about regressing either.

2018 it was obvious he struggled with guys who could out muscle him.
2019 he did look better overall, but still a work in progress.
2020 Donald stole everyones lunch money. TBD how he will fare this year.
How dare you be objective in a Williams sucks thread

It was just Donald I seen Brockers throw Williams around like a rag doll. To be fair the O-line was subpar at pass blocking but at least not as bad as the Eagles.

ACL(?) surgery last year. There was some question whether Williams would be ready for the first game. Played some in camp with a brace.

Maybe he's just not physically healthy yet. Or at least was set back so long that he missed too much training time.

I like the McGovern and Biadasz picks, and Knight's play last year. If Williams isnt ready, or he just stinks, play one of the other guys. Developing them is a good thing. And they may have more at LG than Williams.

Biadasz played a full season last year and won the Rimington Award. Most play than Looney, Williams, McGovern, or Knight had. More play than all of them put together.

He might be a 5 year project and this is only year 3. However, we'll see how much patience McCarthy has. He might just decide to end the Conner Experiment for both Williams and McGovern.

Did they even *start* the McGovern Experiment and I missed it?

Williams was not OK. Three years starting now. He had a great game against Donald in the 2018 playoff game. Now he gets blown up.

I think he's not ready for the season coming off of injury. Probably not pushed at all in camp.

Isn’t he only 21? He looks like he’s gonna need a few more years. you’ve got to think a couple more years to develop him and hopefully sign him to a moderate contract. Or, he walks and prob gets a decent deal at only 23 years old. His 2nd contract might be his best play. The Boys prob get a 4th or 5th round comp pick for him but I’d rather have him as a vet they developed.

I haven't rewatched the game but I'm going to be interested in how Conner Williams actually grades out. That's the best Defensive player in the League right there and that's by a fairly wide margin. Donald basically ruined Martin as well. Are we gonna say that Martin sucks now? The Rams move Donald all over the DL. He lined up at every position along the DL and nobody handled him.

I'll throw this out, I don't think it helped that Skip Bayless pointed out that Donald was ineffective against the Cowboys virtually every time he played us, over and over for several weeks. I will also point out that in an interview with Brockers, he pointed out that he had been watching the Cowboys Practices via Youtube and had learned a lot about what we do. How does that work right?
Tyron handled him on Zeke's first TD. Pushed Donald back 3 yds into the end zone. Not sure he even lined up near Tyron after that.

You don’t draft a 5 year project at QB much less at G.

this is result of a simple mistake, on drat night, Dallas Goedert was there to be had, we could have traded a 6th or 7th round pick to move up one spot and grab him, instead we played cute and waited for him to drop to us...Philly laughed, traded ahead of us and took Dallas Goedert.....we panicked and took Williams and pretended we wanted him all along, only to draft another Guard (McGovern) the next year...yeah sure we really wanted him!!! second time I remember Jones getting cute on draft day and ending up losing on the player they wanted

Round 2 picks should not be 5 year projects. But that is the problem with our drafting. We have no idea how to evaluate talent outside of a few picks here and there. I have no idea why we drafted an OL that high that year anyways. Especially him. He benefited from the offense they ran at Texas and it masked his weaknesses. But they have been exposed at this level. He just is not that good.

All these picks we have had from the last 5 seasons should be the foundation of this team. Talking about rounds 1 and 2. How many are actually that? Not many. Which is why we never improve and only draft to try and fix recent mistakes rather than draft to expand on the talent we have. Never ending cycle of mediocrity.

PFF grades are like kitty litter box liners to me. Guy was facing off against Donald the best defensive player in the league. Dallas ran the ball effectively. Kept Dak clean for the most part. Plus had a rookie UDFA starting at OT. Williams played well all things considered.
