Turn Prescott into Newton?

First off, I realize Prescott is not the runner Cam Newton is but Josh McDaniels really pulled one on MIA with his play calling to Newton's strength and not letting MIA get to his weakness. And we can debate the accuracy of the two QB's in another thread, this is about using their legs. And NE is going to be a tough team to defend.

The Cowboys need to play some ball control against ATL and unlike NE, they have real strength at the skill positions to create the opportunities.

I don't care what kind of offense a team runs, the absolute hardest to defend is the one with a mobile QB. Hell, we've seen the proof of that facing those teams for years.

This is not about debating Prescott but as far as a drop back pocket passer, he is not top 10 in my book but add the legs and he becomes top 10 QB and adds one more threat to the offense.

So, the downside is what? Risk getting the QB injured? Who cares? He's on a one year deal and the Cowboys have the best back up situation they've had in years, although he is not a mobile QB.

The Cowboys have to win this game. They're banged up and they need this game to establish some confidence because if they lose this game, that old devil "Doubt" is going to show up and they're headed to SEA the following week.

They're playing as stationary a QB as there is in the league on Sunday and if this pass rush is what it's been sold as, they should make it uncomfortable back there. This is a team the Cowboys have to beat and yes, it is CC's first "Must Win" game of 2020! You knew it was coming and admit it, you look forward to getting on poor li'l ole me and his Must Wins and I enjoy serving it up to you.

But seriously, there is no holding back on this one. Use all of the skill and talent of this QB because as a passer he's not Ryan's equal but as a QB, he can be his superior. And this team needs that this Sunday.

great post. dak needs to keep defenses on their heels more. and he can do that by keeping the running element to his game on their minds. he doesn't have to run as often as cam, but he needs to run more than he currently does.

I think Dak would excel in a McVay offense. Quick reads, quick throws, lots of motion, lots of bootlegs and play action. For some reason, we still have these slow, long developing routes that aren't effective. He's a good QB, but he isn't great. He needs help.

Prescott is leaner and appears to be in better shape. If they want to incorporate the RPO, it will be muscle memory for Dak and EzE, because they've done that for most of their lives. It wouldn't be hard for them, but it would be taxing on their OL.

Dak is a reluctant runner.
That is not innate, he's always been one to bring it down and take off, that's what got him on the Heisman list.

The Cowboys are too much about protect the stars and I think it's more from the coaching staff, drifting down from ownership, than from Prescott himself. Ever see his face after a run? He's charged up, he's a QB not afraid of contact.

The real issue with Prescott running the ball is he can go a little "bull" with it. There's not a QB built like he is and he will go in there head first for an additional yard. He does need to study Kyler Murray's Slide of Self Preservation because he's the best at it. But he needs to be a real dual threat QB because that's what he really is.

Sorry, CC, but Dak is plenty of good as a passer. The stats and videos all prove as much. Last year, Dak was even better than Matt Ryan as a passer. I agree with you though how the Cowboys need to unleash his dual abilities as a mobile QB.

He’s not gonna run even though he needs to
He doesn’t want to get injured and jeopardize his new mega deal

I think that like Cam, Dak will need a change of scenery to significantly change his style of play.

AC, I do not agree about his passing. Passing, he's not top 10, dual threat, he is. Grading passing needs to take "under pressure" into consideration.

Need to go back and look at the Staubach effect because he was a dual threat, problem was they didn't have the slide rule then and he stuck his head in there too much. But you could see the effect of his ability to run on D's. Used to see DB's and LB's square up instead of coming straight in on him.
