Why have we not signed Ron Leary?

Yeah..

I don't know.

OL has really been a problem since Beard got sick.

I am begining to feel this year is just a rebuilding year.

Nothing more.

Meaning making decisions thinking we are contending for something needs to be shelved.

Until the whole team from coaches to players gets to understand each other.

We have just had no time to do that.

I would go ahead and let our rookie center play and see how he does. In a perfect year..sitting him and letting him learn would be great.

But the OL is in danger of sinking the season along with the defense and it's lack of time playing together.

Badass needs to be played and let him learn to where by the end of the year..we have a vet OL guy at center.

Let Martin call the OL protection calls and let's not let the OL cave in on Zeke and Dak.

Just my answer.
As great as Zack Martin is at guard, playing tackle is completely different position. In fact, Martin would probably suck at LT because it requires skills he probably doesn’t have in large part. It would be similar to saying, Zeke is a great RB, therefore, we can plug him in at WR and it will work. While Zeke is a really good receiver for a RB, that doesn’t mean he would be a great WR in route running against cover corners. It’s a different skill set.

With all the turmoil of playing a rookie at RT..

why are we not moving Connor Williams back out to RT and playing Leary at LG?

Leary actually lives 5 minutes from the Star..

is apparently healthy and wants to play.

This just seems like a done deal but we are doing nothing.

Hmmmm...

Probably cause he’s no longer that good

Good thoughts.

If he can pass the physical..I would sign him and get him ready.

I realize he may not be the same player..

but it now appears we do not have the depth to get thru a season.

We have to assume it will become an even bigger issue if anybody else goes down.

I hope by the break we could get Badass ready to start playing center that then could free up another experienced OL to be used.

What a jigsaw puzzle the OL suddenly is.

Sign whom to after a physical ...Ron Leary?
If Leary is who you are referring to you're not hearing me
we don't need to have that retread declining player especially when we've invested 3rd round pick whom scouting cast was on board long-term..

Oh..

Understood.

But I am not suggesting Martin play LT.

I am suggesting moving him to RT for a few games moving our rookie RT back to the bench. Martin should have that spot dialed in since so much involves both positions working together so much.

I am also suggesting going ahead and start to play our rookie center. Let him get into the mix so that by seasons end..he is further along and contributing.

Also play CD Lamb relentlessly. He and Dak need the timing improved and Moore needs to understand how to use all the receivers as a weapon. With the TE gone..

the other receivers must carry the attack now.

This is not the original plan..but we have weapons but the coaches have to use it.

Just how I see our year now. It's about changing more and seeing what the players can bring.

We just don't agree.

No problem.

I am kind of baffled why people keep asking this. we have a number of interior players. Its clear they do not want to move williams or martin to tackle.

I’m baffled people are asking this also. But for different reasons. Why do fans continue to ask questions to the Cowboys FO about anything that will make the roster better? This FO has been content on losing for 25 years. For most of that quarter of a century they have been huge bargain basement, dollar store cheapskates. They will never make moves they general fans or the local media think is common sense. McCarthy is probably asking himself *** he got himself into.

Maybe.

I asked the question to see if anybody had an answer to Leary.

I still have not read anything yet that really closes the door about him returning.

It will show up.

yeh i'm not understanding those wanting Martin moved to RT, since he's never been that in NFL. and
why would you compromise two positions, instead of working diligently on one role ?

i thought the big problem was our new OL coach not trying Williams out as an emergency OT in training camp , instead of having him
try reps and snaps at center, even with us having Looney, McGovern and Tyler Biadasz all that easily covering that area.

i cannot see Williams not immediately moving to OT, right now.. since it's just not enough proper adjustment time for Williams to practice and get
well-adjusted enough during regular season .

I'm tellin' ya, i don't get this new OL Coach Joe Philibin, .and his methods.
The lack of a normal off season makes trying new spots very hard
I wouldn’t move Martin but I’d liked to have seen if Connor could play tackle, McGovern could play center and such

Can’t move him “back” to right tackle
He’s never played right tackle in the nfl and every scouting report I read was about him being a guard
Connor Williams?

Multiple scouting reports had him as an OT and multiple had him rated as a 1st round OT.

He's undergoing Covid testing. So a deal must be imminent. Remember when he had a degenerative knee. Guess it ain't started.

Absolutely.

If the problem is lack of practice on the positions..

then use the season and change things around.

Not sure if we can really expect to compete at this point.

So let's keep it simple and see if we are able to find something we can depend on.

I'll give them credit for "beating the bushes" to find anyone they can who might be able to provide relief. Let's hope it works.

Leary was a guard but he might be able to provide relief, if McGovern isn't ready to fill for Connor Williams, if he goes to RT.

Veldheer was undergoing COVID testing this week as well. But nothing came of it. So it might not mean a signing is imminent. Unless they will sign both after Sunday's game.

Understood.

But if he is not going to be a permanent player but just temporary help and used to plug holes as needed..

he maybe serviceable.
He may be. I don’t know it’s a certainty though. Plus our injuries are to the OTs and Leary is only an OG
